We have stayed here before and were happy with it on both occasions.
The hotel seems in good condition and the room was too. Very clean though a bit smalland well equipped (though pressure in the shower was disappointing)
Breakfast is decent if included, otherwise pop over the road to the bocadilleria right opposite and join the throng of locals (good place to eat in the evening too)
The hotel is very central and fully wheelchair accessible. Staff are friendly and helpful. My only gripe is the 17euros (!!) for the carpark.
A word of warning. I'd booked this stay through the Solmelia website where it claims you can't get better rates - well i got a much better rate through alpharooms (even when Solmelia had a promotion on) and cancelled the original booking

Would not recommend staying at the Melia Granada

We stayed here for one night in February 2005 on a cheap Internet deal (EUR 60). Even for this price I would not recommend staying at the Melia. The hotel is old and also feels very dated and worn. The decor matches the 80s vibe with gold-rimmed mirrors in the bedroom and a marble relief above the bed.

Also, our room smelled dank and unpleasant. Service at reception was fine and the location was also very central to the main shopping areas and the Cathedral area, but this did not make up for the poor standard of the room.

Instead of staying at the Melia I would recommend the new Hotel NH Royal Victoria which is 2 minutes walk away from the Melia. It is a new hotel with a high design/contemporary look and feel to it and made a very good impression when we visited it for a coffee.

My husband and I stayed at the Melia Granada for 2 nights in December 2005. I read a lot of reviews and it was exactly what we expected. It is very centrally located. Everything is walking distance (Alhambra is a 15-20 minute walk (it's a great walk through beautiful alleyways) for the averagely fit person). The rooms are a little small, but the bathroom was quite nice. We got a room with no view though (another wall) but it was quite and peaceful. The staff were courteous. It's located just off the main road so if you like looking outside to see people and cars, this is not the place for you.

Melia Hotel Granada.

Stayed here 2 nights January 2006, so that we could visit the Alhambra.
Centrally located. Big room. Big Bathroom. Room clean. Bed and linen clean. Room quiet at night (even when we opened the window because it was a little stuffy.). Lots of choice at breakfast buffet (although not all of the prepared foods looked particularly appealing). Helpful staff.

One problem to be aware of if you are of a sensitive nature: the tv has 4 pay per view film channels which give a little preview when you switch to that channel, to give you a little taster, and help you decide if you would like to view the channel. However, 2 of these channels are hardcore porn, and, if your not used to it (like us), its really surprising how much porn you can see in a 5 second preview (its on breakfast time too!). Be warned!

Apart from that excitement, no problems to report.

We stayed at the Melia based on Tripadvisor reviews and were quite happy with our choice. We found our room to be comfortable, with good lighting and a great bed. Our room faced the street and it was quiet. We had been traveling for some time before arriving, and appreciated having our car valet parked and our suitcases taken to the room. The staff at the hotel was friendly, helpful, and eager to please.

This is not a new hotel and although our room was "non smoking" there were cigarette burns on the furniture. The need for sprucing up however is minor overall -- the hotel did not look seedy by any means. We had been traveling and staying at small, charming hotels in each city and it was almost relaxing to just have a nice, regular hotel room in a convenient location at a great price.

I was concerned by the two previous reviews that I read before our trip regarding the temperature in the hotel room. I can't stand an overheated room. We did however find that we could regulate it by first turning off the heat (we made sure it was all the way off) and opening the window a crack if necessary. We were quite comfortable in this manner.

I thought the breakfast buffet was excellent. Although most of the fruit was canned, there was a delicious fresh fruit salad and fresh juice and numerous choices of cheese, eggs, frittatas, meats, great pastries, flan, etc. The coffee was excellent.

Considering the price we paid, 85 euros for a double including breakfast, we felt we got a great deal.

Finally, it is hard not to fall in love with Granada. Two days were not enough. We found an excellent restaurant for dinner on our last evening --Meson Casa Blas in the Albacin. Small, sweet, wonderful food. Another recommendation for seafood tapas is Los Diamontes Dos a few blocks down from the hotel. Lots of fun and inexpensive.

We would recommend this hotel for a comfortable stay in a lovely, lovely city. Enjoy.
