This hotel is well-located and is about the best thing I can say about it--otherwise it would get one dot. The location is perfect for the traveler coming to Granada for what most people come to Granada for, to see the Alhambra. Plaza Nueva is at the heart of the tourist action, buses (and taxis) to and from the Alhambra just steps from the hotel. Plus it's very close to the royal chapel/cathedral, another important sight in Granada. We didn't find any good places to eat in the area (seemed mostly overrun by tourist establishments with poor offerings). The location is excellent, but my praise mostly ends there. The bathroom was new and sparkling, so that was great, but in every other way the hotel was barely average. Room was WAY too small for our family. They said the room was a double and big enough for an extra bed (for our son). I about died when I opened the door. All three beds were smashed edge-to-edge, wall-to-wall to fit them in. And with our luggage there was literally no room to walk--we had to walk across the beds to get to the bathroom! The room was also very tired and had a very institutional feel--hospitalesque. Hotel was also noisy, and we had an interior room. Guests walking up and down the halls were really disruptive, and they weren't doing anything but normal chatting as they walked past. The hotel breakfast is pathetic--horribly overpriced for the crummy, prepackaged pasteries, etc. they offer. Do not waste your money on breakfast here. I really cannot recommend this hotel. There simply has to be better options in Granada. I was wishing we had booked Hotel America next to the Alhambra, which looked so pretty and with those handy mini-buses getting down to Plaza Nueva/the heart of the city would have been a snap.

The best part about the hotel is its location, right on Plaza Nueva. We took the advice of previous travellers, and asked for a room away from the Plaza which was very quiet. The interior is quite nice, the rooms were adequate, and the beds were fine.

Breakfast in the basement was worthwhile. Taxis are easy to find on the Plaza. The bus to the Alhambra leaves from the Plaza. The TI is just down the street. Given the excavations on the major streets, a taxi from the bus station was worthwhile.

The receptionist at the hotel recommended Tavernas Sakinas, just around the corner from the hotel which was excellent.

Don't miss visiting the cathedral which is very attractive.

Whilst the hotel is unremarkable it is clean comfortable and fine for a short break. It is however right bang on the money for location. The bus to the Alhambra stops outside just across the road. The Plaza Neuva is bustling and there is planty of Tapas bars nearby within easy walking distance.

If arriving at Granada airport -we went with Ryanair- it couldn't be any easier, simpler or cheaper to get into town. Just take the airport coach for 3 Euros or 4 dollars. It will drop you off at the Cathedral then its just a short walk -a couple of hundred metres along the Grand Via before turning left into the Plaza Neuva and the Macia is set back on your left.

I would stay here again and would recommend it for anyone wanting a tourist "no frills" hotel with an excellent location.

The location, directly at the beginning of the road to the Alhambra is outstanding. It is near the Albacin, which is handy to go there, but also means a concentration of panhandling drunk and high dreadlocked travelers from all over Europe in the plaza and area. The female staff are outstanding, professional, helpful and welcoming, but the male could not be bothered. The rooms are clean, not very quiet, you can hear every hallway noise. The heater takes hours to reach its peak, warmish, and the shower is also only sort of hot. The TV has cable and it is a fairly short walk to the cathedral, Alhambra (but uphill) and various plazas. I borrowed a hair dryer and paid to use their safe, 2 or 3 euros a day.

There is nothing particularly special about this hotel, but in terms of price and location, right on Plaza Nueva and next to the Alhambra & Albacin buses, it is a great value. Four stars are based on value. We moved here from Casa de los Migueletes, which, in truth, is a much nicer place, but it is much more expensive.

Our room in Macia Plaza was perfectly adequate, and perfectly clean. The lobby staff was helpful and (depending on the person on duty) quite friendly. This was the least expensive hotel we stayed in on our Spanish holiday, and it lacked certain amenities (like a view), but what we saved by staying here allowed us to spend a lot on nice meals and enjoying ourselves outside of the room where we spent most of our time.

We had a room facing an alley, so we didn't get the noise from the plaza outside. I didn't like the bars on room window, and they seem definitely more of a fire hazard than anything else. We were on the 3rd floor, so it wasn't likely someone would climb inside.

If you are energetic, you can walk from here up to both the Alhambra and the Albacin neighborhood and San Nicholas Viewpoint. We took the bus to the Alhambra and walked back down (seemed the smarter choice, since it is a steep climb up). We did walk from here up to the Albacin neighborhood. It is not such a steep climb, and if it is a nice day, you get to see a lot more by walking. The Albacin bus runs so frequently, you can always hop on if you don't feel like walking anymore, and it will take you back down to Plaza Nueva.

I'd probably stay here again, but not sure. My only concern about this place (besides the bars on the window) is there is only one staircase, so in case of fire, if the hallway was blocked, there is no other way out. I didn't like that. Our room here was at the very end of the hall which dead ended into rooms. No way out but back the way we came down the hall to the staircase. If you aren't a worry wart type (like I am), this would probably never have crossed your mind, but these things cross my mind, and that is my only concern about this place.
