Stayed 1 night at Hotel Macia Plaza, in Plaza Nueva. Perfect location for visiting Alhambra. It is a 2* hotel but decent quality. Beds weren't really comfortable but I wouldn't say they are terrible (could be better though). Get a room that does not face the plaza for quietness - people party loud and late on the plaza. Only a few rooms on each floor face the plaza so I'd say 80% of them are quiet. Ours was quiet - no problems. Bathroom was newly remodeled with very clean everything. Hotel has air conditioning with wireless thermostat next to the bed. TV had no English stations but I didn't come to Spain to watch TV. Road to Alhambra starts at Plaza Nueva and is easily walked in 10 minutes. Don't be lazy and take the tourist bus up the hill!! It's a pretty walk and who wants to be crammed in a bus?? Lots of restaurants with patios nearby. Go out of hotel and take a left, walk maybe 4-5 blocks, a very scenic plaza looking up to Alhambra with 5-8 restaurants serving food/drinks outside. Weather was perfect on our trip and we enjoyed dinner on the plaza with Alhambra as backdrop. Terrific internet cafe 2 blocks away (walk out of hotel and to right down street). High speed, about 50 terminals, flat screen monitors, 1.20eur/hour! Would stay at Macia Plaza again for 70eur/night.

Great little hotel. Modern, clean, comfortable, efficient. Good breakfast. Ideal situation to see the places of interest and to catch buses and taxis. Lots of bars, cafeterias and restaurants around the square.

We had a small room tucked in the back at the Macia Plaza, as did the friends we traveled with, so the rooms were very quiet -- we could barely tell we were in a bustling city. For tourists, the Plaza Nueva location is excellent -- easy walking to most tourist attractions and a convenient bus stop out front if you want to ride up to the Alhambra, one part of which looms above you out on the Plaza Nueva. If you are driving, be careful to NOT drive up the street past the Plaza Nueva -- we learned the hard way that this means a half hour drive trying to figure out how to get out of the Albaicin area. The San Augustin parking garage is close by -- the trick is to NOT follow the one way street in front of the hotel, but to back down until the street is two way, and then proceed with the instructions the hotel will give you.
Breakfast here was a good value. Restaurants in the Plaza Nueva and uphill at the Paseo de los Dolores were not particularly good. We liked the Bodega Nueva, some four blocks away, direction Cathedral.
I would stay at this hotel again.

My parents and I stayed at this hotel for three nights before Semana Santa in March. It is in an excellent location, right on the Plaza Nueva, which is where you can pick up the minibus which takes you right to the Alhambra.

The rooms were very clean, the bathrooms were more modern and updated than the beds (only single beds appear to be available - for a "double bed" the hotel pushed together two singles). We had rooms that faced the Plaza, and amazingly the volume from the crowd wasnt loud at all.

Breakfast buffet was cheap and available in the basement of the hotel, which was renovated very nicely. The clerks were all friendly, though we couldnt get the housekeeping staff to understand that we wanted our laundry done.

Plaza Neuva, while a great location, is extremely touristy, and we wouldnt recommend any restaurants in the area.

March 2005, took my daughter for a week in Granada and stayed at the Macia Plaza. Everything was perfect. Clean and staff was very helpful, all except one crumpy man. One bad apple. Right in the center of town.
Room looked as if it had just been remodeled. Bathroom fixtures looked brand new. Bus comes right outside your door. Great place to start a walk.
