“nice rooms with view to the plaza or small rooms with view to nothing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

we had two nights in the macia plaza. we ordered asking for a room with the view to the plaza but we got a room with a view to a lightshaft, so nothing. the rooms are ok, but the view was a joke. the breakfast buffet is great. the location of the hotel is very central and good to explore the city by foot

There are big pluses to this hotel. It is so central for the Alhambra, Albaycin, cathedral, Sacromonte and a fine tapas bar round the corner. It does front on to the main square whch can be noisy till after midnight. The rooms are basic but spotless. The staff are so helpful. Whoever trained them deserves a medal! Would definitely return.

Room Tip: rooms at front have great views but are noisier than rooms at the back with no view

The location of this hotel is in the middle of everything! Right at the door steps are some restaurants but they are definitely catered to 'us' tourist - very commercial. Would suggest walking into the alleys and you'll find some gems around!
It's about a 5 minute walk to Granada Cathedral (must see) and this is where you take the bus to Al-Hambra.
It's also about a 5 minute walk to the shopping street (H&M's... Bimba and Lola and your high street brands).
Two thumbs up for a central and absolutely clean hotel!

Room Tip: If you're looking at using their hotel wifi which is free btw, do ensure your room is either in...

I will be doing a full review of Granda in the next couple of days

We have just spent four nights in the hotel. The first room we were booked in was either 204 or 205 and the noise from the air conditioning units outside the room was terrible. I looked out of the window and saw immediatley what the problem was, there were about six of them rumbling away to themselves. We also had the fridge in the lobby to contend with which was noisy too. We tried ear plugs for about 30 mins but that made little difference, so I went to reception and the friendly concierge and I played hunt the quiet room. After checking 4 other rooms that were just as noisy we settled on room 102 which appeared to be quieter. The chap said that we may hear some noise from the outside but as it was about 1:30 in the morning and we were desperate for sleep we accepted the room. What we were not aware of was there was a clock tower nearby which chimed every 15 minutes ! and then longer on the hour. We could hear it with ear plugs in and also the chatting of people crossing the piazza till about 3:00 in the morning, traffic noise, taxi drivers chatting, singing, clapping ! (you get the picture). I think there were issues with the double glazing - think it was non-existant. I suppose we could have asked to move again but as we were only there for 4 days before moving on we stuck it out. If we had planned to stay any longer we would have checked out and found another hotel. Just so you are aware, my boyfriend can sleep through me drying my hair in the bedroom next to him, so is a very deep sleeper and even he struggled to sleep. (There may be quiet rooms so you may fall lucky if you stay here)

The staff were fine apart from not being over helpful in contacting the airport when our luggage went missing, after a couple of fruitless attempts of trying to contact the airport ourselves, we had to insist they rang and found out what was going on.

The location was really handy for the tourist information centre, the local buses, taxis and the Alhambra Bookshop where you could print off tickets to the Alhambra. It was also handy for restaurants and a walk to the Albacin.

The room was fine for a few days, clean and with toiletries and a hair dryer. There was a small wardrobe but it had a set of three drawers inside so not much room to hang things. There was no safety deposit box in the room but there were some in reception you could rent for 2 euroes a day. There were two single beds pushed together rather than the double we requested.

The breakfast was typically continental, fesh fruit, cereal, ham, cheese bread etc. The coffee out of the machine was disgusting - think it may have been the milk powder !

Although the location was great I wouldn't consider staying here again because it was so noisy and we ended up tired through lack of sleep.

The location is perfect, at the bottom of the Albaicin, 15-20 minutes walking distance from the Alhambra and close to restaurants and all facilities. Very close, on calle Elvira there is a Bakery in which u can buy the amazing "piononos" sweets, typical of Granada. 10 minutes walking u can buy the homemade biscuits from the "Convento de Santa Catalina" on Calle Darro, which is a funny experience for the way u order the biscuits box and tasty choice. No description, go and discover it :-)
The Macia Plaza hotel is clean and the service is ok. Perfect location for a short stay (and actually u can see averything the city offers in 1 or 2 days)
The only 2 negative things are
1) the noise at night as it is very close to Calle Elvira and the restaurants and Bar de Tapas around
2) Do not go for the breakfast at the hotel, as they have a very poor choice and quality is not so great.

We had some difficulty finding the hotel since apparently there are 2 Plaza Nueva's in Granada and our GPS sent us through very tiny streets until eventually we parked the car and went on foot to explore. Once we found the hotel we were in good hands with Pedro who proved to be an excellent desk clerk ready with advice on parking, dining, and Spanish literature. We were not pleased with the first room we were shown on the main floor, dark and with a bit of a smell as others have noted. But Pedro was able to switch us to another room which much more attractive overlooking the square. The room was small but comfortable and clean. Breakfast was not included but we did have the breakfast buffet one day which was fine. Although the hotel is basic with any extra frills such as a fridge, nevertheless I'd stay there again because of the great location and the very helpful staff.

the hotel is located in the best place... it could not be better.. the service is excellent.. the room big and good bathroom but stinky as hell... not good smell.. it was like i was sleeping next to a farm of pigs... and smell that was coming from the bathroom... so we tried to be out that room most of the time and open the door of the balcony to get fresh air.. i totally recommend to do to the albaicin and sacramonte where all the real flamenco is... the Alhambra.. u have to but ur ticket a day before across ing the rd from the hotel is a library called "alhambra" u can buy ur ticket there. Granada is a place to stay just for one day to be honest.. better to stay more time in other places..
