I stayed at the Hotel Los Tilos for two nights with my fiancee in mid-Feb 07 at €50 + tax per night (about €54), including an excellent breakfast buffet. There is a tv and safe in the room but no mini-bar or fridge. This was the best deal we found in over three weeks in Spain and Portugal.
It's a short cab ride to the train station (€5-6) and about 20-30 mins from the airport (about €20). There is also a 40-minute airport shuttle bus that leaves every hour or so from not too far away for €3/person. Plaza Bib Rambla is a pedestrian square so there is no road noise from passing cars, but it does mean that you will have to walk with your bags at least the last 50-100m to/from the hotel depending on where you get dropped off.
Staff are very helpful. The good-sized double room (two twin beds pushed together) was clean, quiet, and comfortable and even had a small patio. Bathroom is modern with a strong, hot shower. Room is well insulated from the corridor, and outside noise was very minimal on the 3rd floor even with constructions next door. The full-window shutter helped with the noise as well as the sunlight.
The location can't be beat: 100m to the Catedral and Capilla Real, a short walk to Plaza Nueva where the buses take you up the hills to the Alhambra or the old city. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes right outside the hotel, but as is often the case in tourist zones, you can walk out of the center and find places with better food, better service, and better prices. We found a fantastic Indian restaurant near the Plaza de Gracia (10 mins walk) and a great internet cafe in the Plaza Trinidad (2 mins walk).
IMHO the Alhambra is the highlight of Spain (despite the highest number of tourist-weary locals and tour groups we found on our trip), and Los Tilos is a great base from which to visit. Big thumbs up.
