We were also a bit apprehensive after reading some of these reports. We can only say that we would go back tomorrow! We had a junior suite which, admittedly, was pricey, but worth every penny (sorry, Euro). We had an incredible view (but no balcony), beautiful furniture and décor, and did not experience any of the complaints made by others about dirty bedspreads or malfunctioning equipment etc. Everything was in perfect working order, super clean and attractive. Admittedly no alarm clock (see other reviews) but's what's wrong with asking for a (free!) wake-up call!?! I loved the sitting area with the huge "Moorish-style" coffee table (complete with a selection of books describing the area), and the headboard of our bed was a work of art all of its own! The staff were great - friendly but not "pushy" - and even helped us to find a place in town to ship a mirror back to Germany. We found the communal areas super and very well looked after. The general décor might seem "over-the-top" to others, but we found the whole thing very much in keeping with the setting. We didn't eat at the hotel, but enjoyed drinks on the balcony of the bar overlooking the city and found the price OK. The breakfast buffet (included in the price, but so it should be!) was as you can expect at a good hotel, with delicious fresh mangoes and sparkling wine. We are amazed at some of the other reviews on this place and can only assume that the hotel has woken up to criticism and has now got its show on the road!
