“Mediocre for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012 via mobile

This is an expensive hotel so my review reflects this.
Good points: free parking, beautiful common areas, fantastic view from bar across Granada, romantic evening in the bar watching the sun set over the city, proximity to Alhambra- beautiful for a late evening stroll.
Bad points: rooms dated (80s), small window in rooms on 4th floor (great view though), massive column makes bathroom really cramped, restaurant and bar food prices high, too far for a pleasant walk to town. No hotel facilities other than bar and restaurant. Breakfast very poor (for price), juice from concentrate and pastries not fresh disappointing.
Suggest 1 or 2 night stay tops or go somewhere with a pool or near the albaycin. Probably doesn't justify it's price on balance.

This hotel was one of our two favorites on a recent trip to Portugal and Spain. (The other was the Alfonso XIII in Seville.) The public rooms and our very large bedroom were all reminiscent of the Alhambra in design and quiet luxury. The bar, bar balcony, and dining room offer a stunning view of Granada. Service was pleasant and prompt. When our new electronic room key did not work well, the front desk staff apologized profusely, adding that they had been having quite a bit of trouble with this 'improvement' and offered us an old-fashioned key, saying they knew this would work. The hotel's food and dining service were excellent, except for an odd placement of the coffee machine at breakfast, which caused a bit of a traffic jam.

The only possible 'downside' is that the way into town is down a steep hill. Frankly, I would use a taxi, a small price to pay for the glories of the hotel's setting and proximity to the Alhambra. And there is a fabulous restaurant just a block away with the same gorgeous view.

Room Tip: Ask for the side toward Granada. You'll have a great view.

Very nice hotel - but you are paying for the views (which are incredible). The front desk staff was very cold to us for some reason and the WiFi did not work in our room. When we told them it didn't work, they assured us that it worked all over the hotel but would not come check our room or offer anyone to help us. The breakfast was only included one night with our room which we didn't realize and the morning we had to pay for it was absurdly expensive. There are no other facilities (spa, gym, etc) so if you want a 5-star hotel with just a great view and expensive breakfast and coffees this is the one for you.

Room Tip: I would request a city view.

With beautiful views over Granada, this hotel sits high on a hill very close to the Alhambra. This is obviously an advantage if you are going to spend most of your time at the Alhambra. Beautiful tree lined walk down to the main restaurant/shopping area - but a long walk back up the hill. We had a very good breakfast included in the rate. The terrace is a wonderful place for lunch or drinks, with magificent views. Loved the beautiful building with lots of character. Great staff, we felt very spoilt.

This place really makes you feel like you are at the Alhambra the whole time. The design is beautiful and the hotel is very clean and a delightful place to stay. The views over the city from the bar balcony and the views from some of the rooms of the palace are magnificent. The food is a little pricey and the selection is not great, so we tended to eat elsewhere although there is nothing really close and the walk down to the city is a little precarious! A fantastic place to stay with the whole family.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a view over the city of Granada or a view of the Alhambra itself

All very good, the staff very friendly and the hotel is fantastic. The breakfast is too expensive.

This is a lovely grand hotel, clean, cool and beautifully appointed. The terrace (if you can get a table) is stunning with incredible views over Granada and a light misting of water every now and again to keep you cool. Unfortunately the "triple room with spectacular views over Granada" that I had booked turned out to be a double room with a put-up bed and a view of the road down from the Alhambra (not very spectacular at all really), but the alternative we were offered on the other side of the hotel was much smaller with a tiny window so we decided to stick with the original. The bathroom was spacious and the shower very effective with lovely big towels and breakfast was incredible with something to suit all tastes and as much as you could eat. All other meals are a complete rip-off however. After a long day at the Alhambra we didnt want to go out again as it is a fair way down to Granada centre, but you are a captive audience so they can charge what they like. 18 Euros for a simple omelette, 21 Euros for a plate of cheese! We just fancied some bread and butter at 1.50 Euros but for some bizarre reason that was not available after 10.30pm even though other things were (at a premium price). I am unlikely to stay at this hotel again but if I did I would definitely come prepared with my own food!

Room Tip: Don't expect a room with a view - you might be promised it, but you wont necessarily get it. I w...
