“Extremely poor service in miserable surroundings.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

Never stayed at the apartments but ate at the Cunard Bar and wish I hadnt. Miserable woman with Scottish accent (possibly owner?) serving the food never cracked a smile once. Placed my order and condiments were then dumped on table without a word. Coffee was then served a minute later and again not a word. Food then arrived and I was given a fork which still had food sticking to it from previous use. No point in complaining because I did not want the waitress to get even more miserable(if that was possible) and did not think that it would have made any difference anyway so ate chips using fingers.Went inside to pay the bill and never even received a Thank-You. An absolute disaster of an attempt at customer service and I will never return and would advise people to avoid. There are loads of other eateries in the area that offer a far superior service. I am only giving a terrible rating because there is not an ABYSMAL rating . Avoid this one at all costs.

We have just reurned from one week here and would thoroughly recommend. Just one street behind the beach you will find the Cunard Bar and Apartments run by Cathy and Robert. Fantastic value for money with very reasonable prices for drink and food. We ate breakfast and dinner there and had great home cooked food offering very reasonable prices. The service provided by Cathy and Robert along with Alan and Carol is very good and very attentive ensuring that you are well catered for. We stayed in the apartments last year but they were fully booked this year so next time we will be more organised. They are clean and very comfortable and only a few steps away from the extensive beach.
Can't wait to return.

These apartments are really good value for money. Situated in a fantastic location right on the promenade. Rob and Cathie were very friendly hosts. We arrived quite late in the evening but Cathie left us some sandwiches and some basic food stuff which was appreciated. The apartment also contained a selection of books and dvd's. English tv was a bonus.

Viv and I called in a couple of times during our visit in September. Quick drink first time, piece on sausage second time.

Quick service and piece was fresh, bread was soft and tasty. We found a bit of a lack of atmosphere and owners were a bit serious - maybe the fact there was a "disagreement" going on between them in the miniscule kitchen didn't help their mood lol!!!

Worth calling in for a bite to eat and others eating main meals seem to have good scran.

Cheap and not very cheerful!! Give it a try.

Hope this helps

Bubaye for now, Viv and Rick

We have not actually stayed at the Cunard Bar apartments but we visit the bar frequently when we are in La Carihuela, which is several months every year. To the persons who wrote under the banner 'Scotland's shame' we can only say that, yes, Cathy and Robert may occasionally come across as a bit gruff (they don't suffer fools gladly) but that underneath that exterior beat hearts of gold. Our experience is that they will do anything for you, they each have a good dose of Glaswegian humour and their Burns suppers every January are the stuff of local legend. So ashamed Scots: brighten up!

We stayed 2 weeks in October/November 2011. I am also very suspicious of the "Scotland's shame" review. We were very well received, ate some great meals at the bar sitting at the outside terrace watching the world go by. The apartment was clean, and had everything we needed. Although I told Cathy we could change our own sheets, she would not hear of it! Once a week the apartment is professionally cleaned, sheets changed, etc. Lovely view of the pedestrian street from the little balcony. Nice quiet area with a mix of restayrants, shops, and apartments. Highly recommended and excellent value

As a regular vistor to the Cunard Bar apartments I am a bit suspicious of the Scotland's Shame review.

The apartments themselves are very good with everything one needs for a good holiday (and if you have to know what is going on at home they have UK TV and WiFI). The location is excellent, you walk on to the promenade from the flat exit and are half way between Torremollinos and Benalmadena. Public transport is very good and you can get a bus at the top of the road all the way up to Mijas in the hills, which is well worth visting.

There is a roof terrace with loungers, table and brolly for the sunseekers and the apartments have a balcony overlooking the street above the bar for people watching whilst coffee/vino sipping.

You can self cater with a supermarket about 15 minutes walk away and an even more tempting pastelleria on the corner, with a range of pastries, filled croissants, cakes and breads to die for.

If you do not fancy cooking then the Cunard Bar itself has an excellent menu with a wide range of meals and snacks for all tastes at good prices (and at a discount if you rent the apartments). Cathy does most of the cooking and rightly takes great pride in the quality on offer. A lasting memory for me is from last December when with visitors from the UK we had Sunday Roast Lunch outside the bar for 5 on a lovely sunny afternoon.

Cathy and Robert have always been friendly and helpful and I find the judgements in the negative review difficult to understand unless there is an underlying motive.

if you want a break where you can really suit yourself, then the Cunard Apartments are the place to go.
