“Relaxing 2 nights”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

Once again stayed at the Don Marco complex. We go at least twice a year for a few nights R&R as we holiday in a very quiet village and it is nice to go there for a treat.
Had a lovely room overlooking the pool area and when we go in winter are given an upgrade without a request.
Food is excellent with plenty of choice and you can also eat in the sister hotel Don Pablo which has a lovely open conservatory and has a different buffet menu.
This complex is in an excellent position near beach and also a short distance from the main shopping area. There is a very handy lift to take you up to street level to shops.
Staff are extremely friendly and efficient and a special mention of Manager Jaime Floyer who welcomes you like an old friend and that is why so many like ourselves choose to go back to the Don Marco .

Room Tip: Usually request a room on higher floor as like to overlook pool areas and listen to cabaret.

My daughter and I stayed at the Don Marco for 9 nights from 24th July to 2nd August and enjoyed an excellent holiday. I was a little apprehensive due to this not being our usual type of holiday (we tend to go for the quiet less touristy kind of holidays). However it was fine, no problems at all anywhere and the beaches (15 mts from the hotel) are very well maintained with excellent facilities. The hotel was spotlessly clean throughout and our room was a good size with a fabulous shower, the television had a few English channels (BBC, Channel 4 & others). Each room has its own air conditioning unit which does not turn off when you take the key out so you have full control and with temperatures of up to 40 degrees it was a godsend. The restaurants offered a wide variety of choice and we always found something lovely to eat. This hotel is one of three in the complex and you can use all of the facilities and any of the 9 pools. These pools are salt water pools and were very clean. We always got a sunbed even though some sad people were putting towels out at 7 o'clock for example one family put towels on 8 or 9 beds every morning right next to the pool and would arrive late morning for an hour and disappear till 6 o'clock. My only gripe (probably an English thing) is the lack of tea/coffee making facilities in the room and that we asked for a sea front room and did not get one. My daughter was chatted up by three of the waiters all old enough to be her father LOL! Hilarious! We didn't make use of the entertainment but we could hear it and it sounded good, it tended to start at 10 pm every night, we feel it didn't need to be as loud as it was and maybe could be lowered a decibel or three. The staff and entertainment team members were all very friendly and enthusiastic. WiFi charges are ridiculous but plenty of the cafes and bars had free WiFi. I would recommend this hotel and this area of Torremolinos and will definitely return to the area, another bonus was the journey from Malaga airport took only 10 minutes.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room (for the views) and as far from the entertainment stage as possible.

Dear nannyloulou,
Thank you for your comprehensive review of your recent stay. I am so glad that you had a great holiday despite being a little apprehensive at the outset! The Sol Don Hotels complex is very big but I think that the success is largely due to there being 3 separate hotels on the grounds and lots of room within the complex for our guests to spread out and not be on top of eachother.
Please just let me make a small clarification; there is free WiFi in the bar and lobby areas of all three hotels in the complex. If guests wish to upgrade to be able to use the WiFi in the rooms then there is a charge.
Thanks again for your review and please come again.
Kind regards,

Good hotel with a good location close to the beach. There are 3 hotels in the complex to share facilities. Good evening entertainment and food, which was buffet style with plenty of choice. Plenty of sunbeds around the many pools and easy to get one.

I stayed at the Don Marco for ten nights in july, half board. I requested a top floor room, and was handed a top floor room on arrival (makes a nice change). I had read previous reviews about dress code for the evening meals, and was dubious as it was soo humid in shorts never mind full length pants. So sweated my you know whats off, went down on my first night and noticed quite a few guys wearing shorts. going out shorts, no beach wear. for the remaining 9 nights i wore shorts and everything was fine. Breakfast was great, loads of choice and the cakes were lovely. Evening meal, it all felt the same each night, still nice, but abit repetitive.
Overall id stay again, maybe next time on a B&B basis.

Room Tip: Top Floor, sea view.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for the first two weeks of July. We had a great holiday. We had booked a sea view room and it was well worth the extra cost. We booked directly with the hotel and got a good enough price with the Melia rewards scheme, you can sign up for this as you are booking on the website. The staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was excellent. The location is excellent and just €20 for a taxi from the airport. There were always plenty of sun beds no matter what time of the day you came to the pools. The only small quibble we had was you had to pay for the towels each day, one euro each, not too much I suppose but it adds up! . The evening entertainment was very good. I decided to have a treatment in the spa, a body scrub, and i cant say it was a relaxing experience. i was scrubbed like a kitchen floor! my skin was all the better for it, but it was a very clinical experience. We enjoyed our evening stroll up the steps to the main square, just turn right as you come out of the hotel and there are stalls which lead to the steps. You can take the lift up as well, which is what we did most nights, it is easy to find if you go down the side street before the stalls and past the pharmacy, turn left, walk to the end of that little road then on your right hand side you will see steps leading up to the lift. We had dinner most nights in La Caserola restaurant, booking essential, food excellent. Overall a great holiday, we would definitely return.

Room Tip: Sea view a must

Had the pleasure of staying at this hotel from July 6th for one week.
Would return again without any doubt.
The location is superb, literally across the road from the beach. Peaceful area of Torremolinos.
Hotel reception and lounge areas are simply stunning. The whole complex is spotlessly clean, numerous pools to use, in total I counted 9. All extremely well maintained. Sunloungers available but there are a few sad people that 'reserve them with towels at early hours of the morning'
The reception staff are very welcoming and helpful especially Miguel who booked us in late evening and when asked recommended a fabulous local Spanish Resturant around the corner he did, its called Avendia. Well worth a meal at, authentic Spanish food.
We had 2rooms on the second floor of Sol Don Marco rooms 2032 &. 2034. Cleaned daily and to the high standard that is throughout this hotel. Clean sheets & towels daily, the shower is wonderful, walk in and plenty of hot water when needed. Ac worked well in room 2034 not so well in room 2032 but when reported to reception it was repaired the same day. Small balcony but enough for us, pool view. This room is located above the Resturant but I must say I expected to be disturbed by noise of meal preparation but didn't.
We stayed on a b&b basis. Breakfast was good. A huge selection from co,d meats
& cheeses, cereals, fresh fruit, cooked breakfast. The breads & pastries are cooked on the premises, really fab chilled champers on ice just finished the experience off. Can get rather busy at weekends but the resturant staff really work hard.
Reading the reviews re dress code in the evenings for meals I must add our experience, we intended to dine one evening as it smelt divine. However both my adult sons had shorts on, not beachwear shorts, tailored smart shorts that they were permitted to play on a luxurious golf course in and yet we were clearly told at the resturant door that one of my sons was not welcome to enter the dining room in them! Both boys had shirts on and the shorts are below the knee. We did find it old that only one of them although dressed the same, were turned away. Didn't affect our fantastic stay at this hotel as rules are rules but as people seem to be mentioning the lapse of the rules on here, I will contribute with our findings on this matter.
The hotel has a varied entertainments programme ranging from yoga, aqua aerobics and evening singers/bands. I am sure a lot more is on but we couldn't cram it all in one week.
Really impressed with this hotel and have already recommended to friends & family.
Ideal to explore Torremolinos especially the old town, shops, aquapark and of course the enjoyable evening stroll along the promenade right down to Benelmadena Marina.
Cannot wait to return

Dear debdee21,
Thank you for taking so much time to write your in-depth review. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay so much and we look forward to the chance to welcome you again soon. I am sorry about the issue with the dress code. It is terribly hard to get the balance right at this time of year as everyone has such different expectations of their beach holiday. Why one rule should have applied to one son and not he other (unless one is a child and the other an adult) mystifies me. I'm sorry and will look into it.
Do come back soon. Thanks again.
Kind regards,
Jaime Floyer.
