“lovely !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2014

lovely hotel, only down side was we were not advised about the long trousers for evening meal when we booked and so were not aware until we arrived , which was too late as we hadn't taken any with us,(regardless of it being in the leaflet in CAPITALS- the leaflet is in Spain, my clothes are in England ) however long shorts were acceptable and to be honest looked better and smarter than some of the long trousers the old men were wearing so despite other reviews saying standards have slipped i disagree, some of the sights in the dining room were far worse than a pair of knee length shorts!!! The leaflet also stated that people should not reserve sunbeds and items may be removed if you do - it would have been good to see this enforced as people reserved beds then went out for the day returning late afternoon when there would have been plenty of beds available, having said that we went down between 9 and 10 most days and always got a lounger ! the hotel was mostly for the more mature age group, but still very enjoyable, lovely staff, plenty of choice at meal times, rooms lovely cant think of anything negative really except if you are a bit of a snob take some long trousers and maybe Thomson/First choice should point it out at the time of booking

Wonderful holiday, returned 1st July 2014. ONLY 1 complaint. Directed at the Manager. Men were allowed in the restaurant in shorts for the evening meal. STANDARDS are dropping. Had word with First Choice rep. Reception informed us at check in, plus in room leaflet in CAPITALS long trousers to be worn at evening meal plus information on booking. STANDARD at RIU are dropping.

Stayed in the belplaya from 20th-27th June and it was fantastic from start to finish. When we arrived, check in was smooth and very organised. We even got a glass of orange!! Our room was on the 8th floor and had a lovely sea view. It was very clean, spacious and you could have the air-con on 24/7. People said in other reviews the walls were thin but we heard no noise from anyone else all week. The maid was lovely, nothing too much trouble for her and always made our room looking lovely. We had a safe which was free of charge too although you made a 20 euro deposit at the beginning but got it back on checking out, never known that in any hotel before.
The pool area was lovely, lots of sunbeds and umbrellas but if you wanted one you had to be down by 7.45am to put your towels out otherwise you had no chance! The pool bar opened at 10.30am and when you got a drink it was in a proper cup or proper glass. A waiter even came and collected them in while you sunbathed. Reception gave you towels as well to use by the pool and you could change them every afternoon for clean ones.
The food was lovely, plenty of choice and always hot. Constantly putting fresh food out! The staff were so friendly and were very quick at clearing your plates away and making the tables fresh for the next people. At night, gentlemen had to wear long trousers and you picked a dinner setting and had to stick to it, either 6.30pm or 8.15pm. One night of your stay you could book to sit outside by the pool at the Andalusian restaurant which was lovely.
The entertainment was ok although we didn't really stay in for it. There was never a queue at the bar for your drinks which is always a bonus! The all inclusive finished at 12am which seemed a great time for everyone.
Check out was smooth and organised, we had a late flight so still use the facilities to the end and the hotel gave us a room for a shower before catching the flight home.
Overall a brilliant holiday and will definitely be returning in October. Stayed in torremolinos 7 times now and this is the best hotel we have stayed in.

Room Tip: Get a sea view room as it's gorgeous!

We stayed for a week at the Riu Belplaya from 5th -12th June, and enjoyed every minute of our stay.
On arrival reception was ok, although they do seem to have a problem coping with more than a couple of guests arriving together. Our room was fine, large, with a large bathroom and a sea view. We were in 509, straight in front of the lift, but this didn't cause us any problem with noise at night.
We always found the staff very pleasant and helpful, one guy at reception even managed to retrieve one of our towels that had blown off the balcony. The restaurant food was amazing, the best we have ever had from a 4 star all inclusive. It was varied and always filled up promptly. We had a table for dinner over looking the sea which was great. The first night we were there was my birthday, and they brought to the table, which was laid out with a candle and chargers, a bottle of champagne. All the staff stopped at our table to wish me a happy birthday.
We were most impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel, I never saw anything that I felt needed cleaning although some parts of the hotel could do with upgrading.
The only faults, if you could call them that, were the lack of seating in the bar where the entertainment is. If there is anything on worth watching and you are second sitting for dinner, you haven't a hope of getting in. The other problem is the sunbed and towel thing, we saw many beds with towels on in the morning that were never used till later in the day. The hotel states that they will remove these towels, but it never happens.
Yes we would go again happily.

I have just returned from a 10 night holiday with my family. Firstly good points - the staff were really friendly especially restaurant staff and entertainment, I liked the fact we were allocated the same table each night for dinner, good location near the beach, rooms were big and hotel was clean, always managed to get a sun lounger, reception staff very helpful. Bad points - no water in room, no air con in entertainment room and very hot in the evenings! A/C in the room was only on between 2-6 which we got changed. Wifi was not free?! Sometimes meat in the restaurant was uncooked ( raw chicken and pork ). Overall seemed like the holidaymakers were aged between 50-100 which wasn't great when we had a 18 month baby with us! We weren't told where snacks were during day, lastly the walks in the hotel are paper thin and you can hear everything!
I'm not sure we would return unless the hotel gets updated but overall a good holiday!

We are a young couple (26/33) just back from a week stay here. There were hardly any other young people at the hotel. The majority of guests I would say were over 70. I think it should be clearly stated on websites that this is a hotel aimed at the older generation!

Having stayed in a Riu before (all be it in Mexico!) I had high expectations. I felt let down.

In saying that, this was a relatively cheap week away so we didn't expect perfection.

Room - was fine. Clean, nice view. Bathroom small. Air conditioning was rubbish

Food - was ok. There was a average choice but it got pretty repetitive after a few days eating there so we mainly ate out. The buffet was always very busy with many of the older guests pushing, not a pleasant experience. There was also a lack of snacks available.
Only for 1 hour per day there was dried bread, cheese & ham available to make up a sandwich!

Drinks - were pretty good. Few cocktails to choose from, beer taps to help yourself and fizzy juice & water available

Pool - quite small but clean. Plenty sun loungers available although a lot were reserved early and didn't see anyone at them all day!

Entertainment - pretty terrible!! Aimed at the older guests but was poor quality. The lounge was also mobbed every night, no seats available and sometimes difficult to get served at bar. I can't imagine what it must be like in full on high season!

Wifi - we had to pay 1 euro for 30mins. The wifi only worked in reception. Surely something like this should be free these days!!

Location - the hotel is a significant walk away from torremolinos - about 20mins. There are a few restaurants closer to the hotel but it wasn't at all lively. The hotel is very close to the airport - 10min which is very convenient. We found finding our way around the area and the costa del sol quite difficult! But that was maybe just us! The staff were reasonably helpful but couldn't help but feel they put the older guests first.

So overall, it was value for money. But would not return, this is no place for young or Middle Aged people.
