“Lovely relaxing break in good hotel :0)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2014 via mobile

Clean, not the wow factor we have been used to but certainly very welcoming with hardworking staff. Really good choice of food, something for everyone, all tastes catered for! Brilliant service from Felix our lovely waiter. Steve First Choice rep was good and Josh on his providing daily entertainment worked extremely hard especially on his one man show!
We liked that it was out of the busy town and walked into the town. Very handy for the La Colina train to Malaga, Benalmadena and Fuengirola. Fantastic flat and clean esplanade which linked bays together and enabled good long walks to burn off the calories from holiday food and booze. Loved the area and hotel and already planning to return again very soon :-)

I have always been a bit sniffy about all inclusive, preferring to sample local restaurants, hire a car and take in the local culture. However, this time we just wanted an easy 5 night break where we were waited upon. For that, it was brilliant.

We went over the new year and the efforts made by the hotel staff were exceptional. They were friendly, eager to be helpful and efficient. Much as I dislike sittings (as I hate to feel rushed) I cannot fault either the quality or choice of food. It really was excellent. The hotel was quite full for the new year but there was never a queue for drinks and there was plenty of space though I wonder if there would be enough space around the beds in the summer?

The hotel was immaculately clean and the beds comfortable. I would not choose all-inclusive in the summer as a matter of personal preference. However, for a pampered short break it was excellent and when I feel the need I will return to a Riu hotel again, including this one.

We stayed 23rd Dec to 6th Jan. We drove from England through Spain taking 10 very enjoyable days visiting beautiful cities in spectacular scenery often very chilly indeed so arriving at Torremolinos felt very warm.

Our reception wasn't very welcoming as although we had booked directly with the hotel and paid in full [£1271] we were asked to pay again. The internet wasn't working so it took some time for our payment to be confirmed! The internet was off for 5 days and then cost 1euro for 30 minutes which nowadays should be free. It could only be accessed in the large reception area.

We really liked our room 331. Our balcony had a lovely sea view and overlooked the pool. We got sun from 10.00 until 4.30 and it was very sheltered so at times we found we were too hot! The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, comfortable beds, plenty of clothes storage and a well appointed bathroom, toiletries were basic but towels, bedding etc were fine, extra coat hangers were provided within minutes and our delightful chambermaid looked after us very well.

The food was absolutely excellent. It was varied, an enormous choice at every meal and a lot was freshly cooked at the food stations. However the wine at our first meal was so dreadful we went to the supermarket the next morning to stock up. [we had never had all inclusive before] but the wine improved the following day and was a reasonable standard thereafter.

The hotel is not new and is a bit tired but is constantly cleaned and cared for. The bar/lounge is not big enough to hold all the guests so special entertainments can only be seen by those who eat early. Second sitting are too late or cannot get seats for the show. This is not made clear when choosing dining times. [ This was not an issue for us]

We liked the position of the hotel well away from the town and on a flat attractive promenade. It was very quiet with a papershop, pharmacy, car hire and tour agent.

So now for the downside.

On Christmas morning I had a terrible fall in the dining room. This was not the fault of the hotel and the head waiter and other staff were extremely helpful getting me onto a chair and giving me an ice pack for the bruise on my temple. However, I now realise a doctor should have been called, an accident report made and follow up from the management over the following 12 days. I had a huge swelling over my left eye and 2 enormous black [and I mean black] eyes. Instead the whole incident was ignored. [It is now 16 days and the bruising to my eyes and legs are still very obvious].

3 days later my husband fell sick with a novo virus attack. We had not realised he was not alone and many, many people were ill. 3 days later we both spent New Years Eve too ill to join in the Gala evening. The director sent us 2 handbag torches. At no time was the outbreak announced, no hand sanitisers were provided, no warning or instructions given or sufferers isolated to prevent further infection.

At the end of this 14 day stay we handed in our room key and our receipt for 20 euro deposit for our room safe. The 20 euros were returned and that was that. No Goodbye, no Have a safe journey, no Thank you for staying with us we hope you have enjoyed your stay! So it ended as it had started with rude reception staff who only became polite when the director was around.

We arrived on December 27th for a ten night stay, and it was lovely.
Our room was in the smaller block with a balcony overlooking reception - good for us as we don't like glaring sunshine (which we had every day). Apart from a kettle, the room had everything we needed - a comfy bed, a powerful shower, loads of storage space, a telly with British channels and a great sea view. It ewas spotlessly clean always.
The food was great every mealtime, but New Years Eve was excellent. The buffet alone would have cost £70-80 at home, and the excellent wine was constantly topped up by our iattentive waitress. We all got a goody bag containing about 15 party items, and the music and dancing went on til way after 3am.
The hotel is a way from central Torremolinos, but we really enjoyed the seafront walk, and we were quite near to La Colina railway station for our trips into Malaga - a great city we preferred to Barcelona, due to it's lack of tacky gift shops and touts.
I don't know how Riu motivate their staff, but they were all friendly and efficient, and I've never seen cleaners vacuum or dust as quickly.
We had professional entertainers every night but one when we had a music quiz which was very good.
Other things we loved were the table reservation system at dinner, so there's no hunting around for tables, the self service area for tea and coffee, beer and soft drinks, the free room safes, the indoor pool and gym, the welcome drinks on arrival and the free bottled water.
Just hope we can get back next year!!!
