“Another great, safe holiday!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

This was our 5th visit to the Pez Espada and as it was our 40th anniversary we were looking forward to 2 weeks R&R! We had asked for a high floor, which we got - on the 7th and the hotel had upgraded us to the huge penthouse suite! Food same high quality and nice to see the same faces of the staff. Everywhere was clean and sparkling, inside and out and bar prices were very low which meant we could relax in the hotel after dinner rather than seek an outside watering hole. Couple of weddings took place which meant that they took over the garden space at night but we just went out those evenings. The entertainment is pretty poor but suited the swathe of grannies and spouses - but we'ew not fans of hotel entertainment anyway,
This is a very quiet and safe haven with views to die for!

Room Tip: Always go for a high floor with a pool/garden view - its worth the extra!

Just returned from the Pez Espada and were impressed by certain aspects of the Hotel. The check in was fine and room 622 was allocated. We have a side sea fine over looking the pool and the Puerto Marina. The room is self was fine except the carpet which was filthy. All in all the rooms appear to be in need of a 'Makeover. We have stayed at numerous Hotels in Spain and can say that, in general the food here was the best. especially the Breakfast. Staff on the whole were very pleasant and helpful. The position of the Hotel is great and not far from the Puerto Marina and Carhuaila .. As disabled and in a wheelchair it was difficult to get to the dining room which is downstairs, still we managed. Would consider returning in the future.

Room Tip: We asked for a quiet room on a high floor which we got.

The hotel itself is well presented and you can see why it had such a reputation in its hey day.

Happily, we were upgraded to a sea view room, which was lovely, but if you pay for a sea view room I would recommend you request a high floor. The ground floor sea view rooms are overlooked by the sunbathing area which is right next to your balcony. As lovely as the upgrade was, it meant we had to keep the curtains closed if we were in the room during the daytime as you always had sunbathers directly outside. Can't complain for a free upgrade though!

The pool, whilst it looks good from a distance, is showing signs of wear and tear around the tiles at the sides and on the floor. Having said this the pool area is very pleasant.

The dining room is great and for a buffet, the food is not bad at all for the most part. Typical buffet food but it is one of the better ones. Breakfast is very nice but would be great to have fresh orange juice instead of that machine stuff.

There is also free wifi, albeit only in reception, but it works.

The hotel could, as other reviewers have stated, use a lick of paint and the rooms an update. They could really be uplifted with small things like new shower heads, taps, curtains & re-grouting tiles and painting the balconies.

The rooms are a good size though and pretty comfortable.

Location wise it's perfect, right on the front with a lovely beach, and promenade with lots of restaurants, shops and bars.

Overall a good hotel in a great location. Just needs a bit of TLC

Best thing about this hotel is its position, beachside and close to bars, restaurants and shops. Pleasant walkways. The Public areas of the hotel and very good and clean, however, the room was very dated hardest mattresses ever, We paid and upgraded to a garden room which was worth it for the view of the sea. The pool was excellent with plenty of sunbeds. The food: breakfast was very good all the usual cereals, toast, rolls, fruit, cakes, cheeses, yoghurts or full English etc. the Dinners were awful, food always cold, dishes of salads covered in sauces, the soup and desserts were good, all the usual stuff found in Spanish hotels nothing exceptional. The staff were offhand except with clients who are known to them who return time and time again ie we met one couple who had been going for 20yrs, so this type of client was treated special, especially by the bar staff. Would we go again No as other Hotels are available.

Room Tip: Pay for a garden room

Hotel has an excelent location just by the beach. and the beach is top. Food is a higher quality and exceptional serving- not some school dining room. An odd thing is striving on men having long trousers, if you dont have any they will force you one at the reception. The hotel has its glory days passed and desperately needs to repair some aspects, for example the room has a really ugly and stained carpet and the plaster on balcony is falling apart. But cleanliness is top and overall feeling is pleasant, but if i would have to pay the full price for this would not be happy - if you want a good one ake the medplaya riviera. the wifi coverage is very weak but once you are at the right spot it works quite fine, but only in the lobby. the demographic is 95% old people, but thats not an issue for me 30+, still better then some loud stags etc. The reception is served only by men, and they dont seem to enjoy their job anymore, not really trying to walk the extra mile in customer satisfaction. And dont ever expect a smile. Very similar in the restaurant, and as well too many men.  Now for the bad things - we have found ourselves in this hotel unintentionally as we booked hotel villasol- also medplaya and even thou we booked it months in advance and arrived at the hotel early afternoon somehow the hotel was "full" but just for us and a couple more lesser customers of that day. We were sent to a dump hotel uphill in benalmadena. hotel San fermin. saying a 3* is just like any othr 3*. This type of situation happenned to me in the past but i was given a firm deal- 2 nights there and then you come back and get an all inclusive for the troubles. But not MedPlaya- they just sent us away and we were supposed to go beg everyday if we can come back.  This really got my steam up and we verbally challenged the reception until they gave in that the management of MedPlaya is populating these daily  lists - since it seems they systematically overbook and handpick who to screw and load ballance. maybe by the price you got- the better deal the more chances to be sent away first. Next day we arranged to speak to the hotel manager with no intention to spend anymore time in san fermin, after that we got offered pez espada, or wait for a maybe villasol the next day. we took it (also another british couple was dealing with the same thing) and it was a win, we soon forgot the horrible times we had the first day. But we will Never trust our vacation with MedPlaya as this is an unfair behaviour- they should have consulted us the options prior arrival via email. It seems most people just shut up go and they get away with this stuff

Went to hotel Pez Espada the first time in September, it was an excellent hotel. Quite surprised at all of these negative comments because I really could not fault this hotel. Great selection of food in the restaurant and great location. Would definitely go back again!

Stayed for 1 week in a superior room in the main block. Room very spacious and clean though definitely in need of an update. The balcony was very small but the view was great and having the fire escape to one side was no problem. Only issue we found was that both the bed and pillows were too hard for our liking . Have no idea how anyone could have any complaints about the food in the restaurant. There was a good selection at both breakfast and dinner and everything we tried was lovely. The pool areas are really well maintained and there was never a problem getting a sun bed, however the best thing about the hotel is its position right on the seafront with direct access to the lovely promenade and many shops and eateries. In conclusion this is a nice quiet hotel in a great location which could really do with upgrading its rooms to maintain its 4 star rating.
