Got home today (15/03/13) after a weeks stay at this hotel,has as been stated on previous posts was greeted with a glass of cava but asked for a fruit juice instead and the waiter was only to happy to oblige,room wasn't ready but not a problem went to the bar for an hour,when we finally got into our room was surprised at how spacious it was (4th floor overlooking the front of the hotel), plenty of storage space and enough hangers for all our clothes.food was good,probably one complaint here was that chicken and pork was on the menu most evenings although there was other options available,try the stir fry,excellent and even for the most fussy of eaters there was something to tickle your taste buds.drinks was ok a litte bit weak for my liking but maybe if I,d asked for less ice this would,ve helped.Staff were always smiling and ready for an"hola", from the cleaners to the hotel management who were always to be seen around the hotel and seemed to know who you were after only meeting you once.A negative, again has as been stated the wi fi was not ideal only available in two locations throughout the hotel,and one of these being in a corner of reception,but the price not to bad.Would we go back, yes defiantly.

Just returned from a 1 week holiday at the hotel 10th March. The weather was atrocious for most of the week, but that was no-ones fault. Have stayed in Riu hotels previously , but this one is not up to the same high standards as previous stays.
Firstly we had a lovely room, very comfortable beds and our request for additional pillows was immediately fulfilled. However on 2 occasions when I requested clean towels the old ones were taken off the floor and put back up to dry.(the hotel asks you to put yr dirty towels on the floor so the maid can replace them). So I was not impressed by that.
The food was OK. You could always find something to eat - no need to go hungry. The only thing was that it was'nt very tasty, very bland. It was OK for 1 week would not have liked it for 2 weeks. Best meal of the day is breakfast after that it goes down hill.
Restaurant staff and all others very pleasant and helpful.
Most of the hotel was full very busy and my biggest gripe was there was only 1 public toilet on the ground floor with 3 cubicles. this meant that if you are in the lounge upstairs watching the cabaret you either have to go down 2 flights of stairs or catch a lift to go to the toilet. When you go to the toilet you would sometimes have to que - then back up 2 flights of stairs to return - very poor. We were very glad that we were 2 couples and enjoyed each others company as the entertainment is terrible.
The other point is that all the seatings for the terraces are left out in the rain - so when the sun shone briefly and we went out to make the most of it your bum was soaking cause no one had bothered collecting the seats.
We made the most of the week, but will not return to that particular hotel.
Have been used to very high standards in previous Riu hotels, but this one does not come into that category.

Stayed at The Riu Costa Lago 3rd March for One Week - Weather was a bit hit and miss but it was March after all. The hotel Staff are the Hotels best asset , always cheerful and helpful ever single one of them. Food & Drinks quality just could not fault . Rooms spacious and comfortable with a comprehensive en-suite . Had a great chill out week , met some nice & friendly people ( Mention to Barbara & Steve ) Went out a few times to the irish Affair Bar tuck away off the front promenade - good time in there. Would recommend this hotel for a nice weeks break . But I think I prefer to be closer to Benalmadina .

My wife and I stayed here for two weeks in February. Short 15 minute transfer from the airport.Great value for money hotel with excellent staff.
We were given a room on the third floor with a sunny balcony which we used most afternoons until the sun went down. Room was spacious with a sitting area, then bathroom and then bedroom which meant we were a distance away from the corridor and consequently we did not hear any noise from people passing nor from either adjacent room during the length of our stay.
We were a little concerned about the set times for evening meal and we chose second sitting but as we could go anytime between 7.45-8.15 rather than one particular time this was fine as this .probably would have been when we would have gone anyway. Large range of nationalties staying in the hotel and we feel because of that the food was good and varied.There was plenty of choice especially fish which is our preferred option. As with most buffet meals the food does not stay hot for ever but as it was freshly cooked in front of you at all meals you could easily wait a few minutes for a fresh batch.
Bar service was excellent with the staff frequently serving two people at once so a queue never built up. There is not enough room in the entertainment room for everybody in the hotel but as we rarely bother with entertainment we took drinks to the balcony and the bar staff even offered trays for you to do so unlike many hotels where this is not allowed .
The hotel is very close tho the beach and the miles of lovely promenade. Torremolinos is a lovely place far better than the reputation it once had and there are lots interesting places you can visit on the excellent local transport system.
All in all a great find and I'm sure we will be back soon..
