“First class”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

Just returned from eleven nights at Riu Nautilus. All the reviews of this hotel helped my good lady and I choose this hotel. We have stayed in this area before and have used Riu hotels in the past so it made sense. Right then my review, firstly the hotel was refurbished over the winter 2012/2013 and has been done to a high standard. We had asked for a high room and but we were put in the annexe which at first I wasn't too happy about. But once we saw the room and the side sea view we settled in. The room was large with two three quarter beds, an amazing amount of wardrobe and draw space. The walk in shower was fantastic, I have never stayed in a room in Spain that was so well lit both in the bedroom and bathroom. I was told the main block still had baths in for those who like them. The maid service kept the rooms spotless and they were very pleasant. The restaurant had table cloths, proper napkins and a nice feel to it. We had all our meal on the out side terrace over looking the pool and the sea. We also did the alacarte restaurant which was very good indeed and included in the half board package. Our waiter Marco was a very polite young man and made our visits seem personal. On saying this he was so professional he made every table he waited on feel the same. The food was well cooked and presented. Some nights there were more choice then others but all vey pleasant. As for round the pool we never had a problem getting sun beds, as always there were the lonely towels left on their own for hours on end. Location wise the Nautilus is right on the sea front. When you leave the hotel this side the marina is five minutes walk to the right with Benalmadena being another five minutes walk further, to the left another ten minute stroll there are the paved side straights of Carahuela just off the front. Torremolinos is a good 25/30 minute walk on the front but only 5/10 minutes in a cab. Outside the front door of the hotel there is a strip of bars and restaurants which are a bit tiered but cheap and cheerful and good fun. We would certainly return to the Riu Nautilus and highly recommend it.

Just had a relaxing week in this hotel, we e-mailed 3 weeks before requesting a HIGH RISE ,pool and sea view, we got bottom floor, !!!!!!!!!! in the annex room 028 which was ok, we have been to this hotel twice before and each time been put in the annex???? The refurbishment is very good, walk in shower excellent, bedroom perfect and beds sooooooo comfortable, every where so bright and clean. Only moan is, room towels so old and thin and some smell of biscuits ,and sun loungers need replacing or mattress's to put on, having spent so much on the refurb shame that these were not replaced, Moan over .lol.
The weather was so good, better than expected, the pool was good and not too cold, I used the sauna, Jacuzzi, and indoor swimming pool every day and met some nice people here , I also had a body massage in the spa which was good ,
We had a meal in the A la carte restaurant which was very enjoyable and a nice change from the main restaurant which again was very good with a great choice of food .
We had breakfast outside each day on the terrace which now can be accessible from a new pathway, saving you having to go through the restaurant ,
Staff very friendly and obliging,
This hotel is situated in an ideal position , near the Marina and plenty of places within walking distance.
All in all we had a most enjoyable, chilled holiday ,met lots of nice people .

Having recently returned from one week stay in this hotel which was our second visit our first being in 2011. The hotel has had a refurn and gone are the beautiful brass doors along the corridors and replaced by grey and purple and looked like what we would imagine prison to be like. However, the upkeep of all that brass must have cost a fortune in man power so can fully understand why they had to go. If they keep their prices in our range that is fine. Staff are superb nothing is a problem to them, food excellant and hotel is kept immaculate.Ideally situated opposite the promenade and close to the marina with loads of shops and bars close by. There is also a shuttle-bus which runs every 30mins(remember this is spain)will take you to Torremolinos for 1.22euros. Trains and ferries excellant! We shall return

Room Tip: Superior rooms are on the front and sunny all day but cost a lot more

my wife and I spent 11 days at the riu nautilus at the beginning of October, having spent holidays there for the last 3 years. We were very eager to what the alterations had made to the hotel. On entering reception it had a very modern look, the decor was very good until you sat on the furniture this was no way near the comfort of the previous furniture. On entering the bedroom the decor was very good with a nice flat screen television very modern comfortable beds and nice walk in shower. The dining room was good and we dined on the terracing outside. The outside pool was as most outdoor pools cold, but i liked the fact that you could stand on the bottom anywhere in the pool.We also liked the code system for getting in the back gate. The staff were very good and the thomson rep evie was excellent .We also liked the way a pathway had been made to get to the dining room without using the stairs which we thought were very steep. We thought the meals were good, but not as good as the previous 2 years. The weather all the holiday was very good with sunshine throughout we had a lovely holiday

Room Tip: Rooms in the annex are better on the floor 3 sunshine most of the day

My wife and I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Riu Nautilus. This is our second stay at this hotel, the first in January 2012, prior to the complete refurbishment. I have to say that much of the character has gone in the hotel. It now looks and feels like any other 4 star hotel, albeit of a high standard.

What hasn't changed are their standards. The service is excellent, with great staff and facilities. You couldn't get a better position, on the sea front, 10 minutes walk from the excellent Benalmadena Marina, with lots of bars and restaurants. The tables in the main restaurant are a little sight but the food is good. The hotel has a new A La Carte restaurant called Andaluz, which is available at no extra cost and serves typical Spanish cuisine.

The railway system is brilliant and cheap. It runs from Malaga to Fuengirola, with trains running every 20 minutes. El Pinillo train station is the nearest to the hotel at approx. 15 minutes walk and with tickets costing less than two euros to Malaga are a bargain.

Malaga is an amazing city and well worth a visit or two, with great museums, restaurants and a new harbour with lots of shops and bars.
