“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

A return visit to Nautilus. I felt this visit there seemed to be a lot of new staff on Reception, Restaurant and Bar Lounge and it was an effort for them to be interested in the Guest. I overhead another guest stating the same. Was talking to another guest who stated that the hotel enjoys a 68% return of guests So I think that says a lot about the experience of Nautilus.. Another guest I spoke to didn't like the new upgrade, she preferred the old style.

Everything was as it should be for this visit. We had an excellent room food was good. My only gripe is that tables at meal times are very close together. Dinner time you must sit at the table that has been allocated. We had different languages, including Holland and Belgium. The language barrier was a bit of a problem. Though most of them could speak a little English. Again the age old problem of reserving the sunbeds crops up. This didn't bother me as I was always able to get a sunbed myself.

We will return perhaps next year.

This hotel was a disappointment after our previous experiences in Riu hotels. The reception area was almost clinical and the lounge area lacked any atmosphere. The colour scheme seems to have copied our Premier Inns but was incomplete with the green lounge chairs clashing with the lilac and grey colour scheme. The restaurant resembled a bun-fight with all guests expected to sit within a very short time frame and the pool deck area was small with only very tired sun beds. It really needs new sun loungers and some chairs. The room was spacious with a sea view. It was clean though lacked sufficient storage space. We were on the 7th floor (east side) and overlooked the bottlebank - annoying at 2am in the morning when the local bars decide to dispose of their empties. The local Dutch music bar was also noisy. The sound of the surf is constant. On this experience its not a hotel I would rush back too.

The reception area is clinical and soulless unlike previous RIU hotels which are have always been welcoming. The room however in contrast was very good and would have been excellent if the facility for making a hot drink was available. The staff throughout the hotel are courteous, friendly and efficient. The pool area is so full of sunbeds its like looking at sardines in a can and very early in the morning while it is still dark figures can be seen reserving their favourite sunbed despite a notice saying sunbeds should not be reserved this could easily be remedied by the staff removing the offending towels. As the beach is just across the promenade we used this option and at 9 euros for 2 sunbeds, table, brolly, waiter service and use of toilet at beach bar this seemed a good alternative. The food in the restaurant is buffet style and seems to be geared to our EU partners which is understandable as the Brits were only a tiny minority. The quality of the food left something to be desired as for example the fish was full of bones and the beef was extremely tough. Perhaps I am being picky but this is one RIU we won't be going back to.

Room Tip: high floors for sea views

This is a tidy well appointed hotel with an attentive and engaged staff group. However we visited in September after school hols now adults only. The hotel was stretched two meal sittings with designated tables a wide range and quality buffet but almost industrial in approach
I think given the choice and the range of eateries we would go bed and breakfast.
The sun loungers are numerous but discount the request not to put the towels out all gone by 8 30

We had a good holiday and the staff were lovely many returning guests

Room Tip: Avoid odd numbers in the new block poor view

Rooms are very nice. The choice of food is typically buffet and not real spanish. Must say that they were friendly and cooked us some fish which was originally not on display. Maybe we just went there at the wrong time when the hotel was packed.

Stayed at the Riu Nautilus 15th -26th September for the 6th time now and greeted as usual with a smile and a glass of wine on arrival. The Hotel is lovely and the recent refurbishment has made the hotel very contemporary, light and airy. The bedrooms in the annex are spacious and spotlessly clean, large bed with extra thick mattresses and lovely soft pillows and cushions. Large flat screen t.v. in rooms and a really big walk in shower. We were in room 343 and had a lovely sea and Marina view. The food in this hotel is excellent with plenty of choice for a cooked English breakfast, pancakes and omelettes also cereals, fruit, yogurts, and cold meats and cheeses etc. The evening meal was also excellent and you are allocated your own table for the duration of your holiday and the manager comes to your table to ensure everything is to your satisfaction which was a nice touch. Plenty of choice including soups, salads and seafood, roast meats, show cooking, vegetables, curries, stews and pasta, and beautiful desserts, fruit and cheeses. If you are a fussy eater as I am you will certainly not be dissappointed with the choice here and it is always hot! The staff are all very friendly and helpful and the service is second to none. The housekeepers work very hard and make sure your room and bathroom are spotless and the beds are made to perfection! Air conditioning and ceiling fans in all rooms. The pool and surrounding area are lovely and there is also a large area which is shaded under canvas canopies all the time which is great if you are not one for sunbathing all the time. You can sit comfortably on a sunbed in the shade all day if you want. I can't comment on the entertainment as we always go out after dinner for a walk and use the local bars for drinks. I can't fault this hotel and would recommend it to anyone, the location is excellent next to the beach and 10 mins walk to Marina. The local bars have cheap drinks and good atmosphere. Bus to Mijas, Malaga and Torremolinos centre average about 1.60 euro which is excellent value. Will we go back? Most certainly we will we can't fault it !! ( This hotel is now adults only)

Room Tip: Annex rooms are bigger, pool facing annex rooms are in the shade in the afternoons. Marina facing ro...

On entering the Riu Nautilus, we thought it looked more like a hospital reception area, it was very purple and silver and also very lit up. We got used to it though, the food was very nice, plenty of choice, the sweets were delicious along with the cheese and biscuits. The staff at reception were happy to help. Rooms were very clean and the bathroom with it's walk in shower was excellent, although the towels could have done with a bit of fabric softener they sort of scraped you dry !!
The hotel manager was in attendance most evenings at dinner wandering around tables and talking to his guests, we thought this a nice touch. The only problem that I really had was that we would have liked to have sat out on the terrace outside the restaurant for our meals, but this area was mostly adorned with SMOKERS, my pet hate. Also the terrace outside the entertainment room was again for smokers, I feel there should have been an area where non-smokers could have sat happily not having to worry about being smoked over, may be this could be considered by the management.
Entertainment was appalling, on our last night there was a man playing all sorts of wind instruments, he was just awful, it was very embarassing, another evening there was a singer who wasn't bad, but towards the end of the evening a guest got up and sang with him and he knocked spots off the official entertainer. There was a Spanish entertainer, and the only problem with that was that he bought his family, and their families with them, so if you were staying there the dance floor was a little restrictive, good entertainment though.
The pool was excellent, what I thought was really good was that wherever you stood in the pool you could reach the bottom. Sun beds were plentiful but the early morning risers were plentiful too, I saw a man going to put towells on the beds along the front of the pool at 6.00 am, what a saddo. We used to get our towells after breakfast and always managed to get a sun bed.
The poolside restaurant was good, food was good but got a bit monotonous after a few days. Waiters and waitresses were really friendly and gave a good service.
8 out of 10 would be a good score for this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel get booked up in advance, we could of changed our room after being t...
