“Pretty Decent Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

My girlfriend (26) and I (30) stayed here for 5-nights in October, we paid €585 total for half board with lateral sea view, room 652, the balcony got the sun from 12pm to 4pm. We got the train from the airport to El Pinillo station (C1 line), which cost is €1.70 each, and took about 20 minutes. From there it was a 15 minute walk down the hill (no taxis at the station). Alternatively, I believe a direct taxi from the airport to the hotel is about €20. The room was good; great views, great shower, comfy bed, the mini bar was well stock and very reasonably priced. The only English TV channel is BBC World News, and the hairdryer was a bit naff. Free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel on various different connections, some require a passcode, some don't, ask at reception for the codes. The Wi-Fi is perfect for emails, Facebook, Twitter etc, but does struggle with YouTube etc. The indoor leisure facilities are pretty decent. The hotel pool is really clean. The pool bar is pretty expensive, we bought drinks from the shop on the promenade for half the price, which was a bit cheeky, but well within our rights. Buffet breakfast was brilliant, apart from the cereal, which tasted like polystyrene! We found the evening buffet very bland, so for the last two nights we ate out, which was 100% better, my advice would be just stay B&B. I'd be very happy to return to Hotel Amaragua, it's a pretty decent place.

Room Tip: Stay bed & breakfast, and eat out every night; the hotel restaurant for inclusive customers is f...

This is an old fashioned hotel, in dire need to internal renovation. Appealing to an older clientele. We visited early May when the weather was just heating up. Perfectly located right on the promenade of La Cariheula which is a lovely Spanish resort just outside Torremolinos.

I don't understand why this hotel earns its four stars. Whilst the pool area was immaculately clean, we found the bedrooms really run down.  The furniture was poor, badly chipped, a 1990 s TV and a very tiny balcony. In terms of lateral sea view, well you could see the sea if you leaned over the balcony. Instead we had a view of ugly apartment blocks and roof tops.

We had to complain because the air conditioning wasn't working, the engineer comes said "kaput"' promised to come back the day after but never did. We had to sleep with the balcony doors open, which was rather noisy with streets traffic, early bin men and the start of hotel building work. Don't expect a lie in here

I also booked and emailed for a double in a certain aspect to be disappointed that none of my requests had been fulfilled. We changed rooms to get a double bed, but the room was no better. I recommend you pay extra abd book a sea view room

The good
Excellent food - both at breakfast and in the cafe bar
Pool area  - plenty of sunbeds, nice grassed area
Beautiful hydrotherapy indoor pool and spa
Location - right on the bustling promenade
Powerful shower

The bad
Room decor and upkeep
No air conditioning (read similar reviews saying same)
Tiny balcony with poor views, unless you book a sea view room
Small and thin bath towels
No bathrobes
Cheap and uncomfortable sunbeds, small and cheap towels - wevexpect mattresses for a four star hotel
Gloomy reception room, sparse melancholy areas with no
Rude' miserable and unhelpful reception staff
Mecabre pianist, maybe ok for the average age of clientele!

I would return to this area, but  I would go to another hotel where I know I can receive four star service and quality. Very disappointed

I paid €300 for one night in a suite that on first appearance looked very nice, but turned out to be a nightmare. I stay in a broad range of hotels about 180 nights per year on average and although not terribly demanding, I do have high expectations of service and quality in 4 and 5 star properties in particular. In this case the air conditioning was totally ineffective, the Wi-Fi was useless and so I was unable to work or access emails, the bed was very uncomfortable, the pillows were strange to say the least, the bathroom although clean, smelled badly and the water took an eternity to empty from the bath. These things happen, however, the insult was added to injury when the staff were indifferent, uncaring and dismissive. The manager's behaviour was curt, arrogant and plainly rude. I was told to complain to Booking.com as I had made the reservation through them, although I paid on arrival at the hotel on my credit card. I was offered no apology, sympathy or compensation whatsoever. I would never stay in a MS hotel ever again

Room Tip: Rooms on the 6th floor have a great view of the hotel's swimming pool and the sea.

In the good part Of Torremolinos, on the way to Benalmadena. Direct access to the lovely beach walk and with own beach. Lovely pool area with view over the beach. Nice indoor pool. All in all we enjoyed our stay. Good service. Nice staff in the bar. Enjoy.

I stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend for 5 nights as we wanted a nice break by the beach. This hotel was wonderful, with very friendly and helpful staff and great rooms. We had a double bed which was incredibly comfortable, and a nice balcony where we could sit and watch people walk along the promenade.
Location was incredible, 2 seconds away from a great beach. The pool was also fantastic, although you have to get down there early to get a lounger.
Breakfast was good too with a lot of variety - from fruit, to cereal, to cooked breakfast and also croissants and pan au chocolat (which i had too much of).
Wish i could comment on the restaurant, but we didnt eat there once as the location on the promenade lead us right onto Benalmadena Puerto which had many lovely restaurants.

Would definitely recommend and will be staying here again in the future!!

The rooms are ok, the location is perfect, the food is also great, you can eat really healthy if you want (fishes, calmari, salads etc)
And I especially always got help when I needed it (see prev.reviews)

pro: great location for sunlovers, nice staff, quality breakfast and dinner (wide selection of local and international dishes), clean room
cons: the "air-conditioner" was low performance at best, wifi was only working in the lobby, rooms are more equipped according to the lower scale of 4star hotels of W-Europe
