I've been thinking about any bad points I could mention in this review, and I've really struggled to be honest......it was pretty much perfect from start to finish.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were quickly checked in (2 hours before check-in officially opens, btw!), given our key-cards, advised about the meal times, and given a very quick run down of some of the hotel facilities.
When we got the room to dump our cases, we were pleasantly surprised by the size of the room, given that we had four beds in there. The bathroom was more than adequate, and the balcony was plenty large enough for all four of us to sit outside and enjoy the view. The room was very clean, the beds were comfy, and the complimentary bottle of water was a nice touch.
During our stay we never had a bad meal. The Chinese themed night was a particular favourite for all of us, but every meal was varied, fresh and tasty. My eldest daughter (9) can be a rather funny eater sometimes, yet she never went hungry. She'd like me to mention in this review that her favourite meal was the freshly made pancakes at breakfast time, covered in chocolate sauce! The snacks, served in the main restaurant between main meals, were very basic. I can't say I ate them often, but I guess they served a purpose. Also, there was no sign of the dreaded "bug" that so many people seem to moan about. Between the four of us, we had almost everything on the menu at least once during our stay. The salads, rice, all the meat dishes, pizzas, burgers, bread, desserts.....pretty much everything they had to offer, and not one of us fell even mildly ill.
The location of the hotel was good and bad to be honest. It's right on the beach, which is great if like us, you want a beach holiday. If you're a sightseer, then you'll need to travel further afield for anything even remotely interesting. There aren't many shops nearby, but there's a small hand full about 5 minutes walk away from the hotel. It's a good 30 minute walk in to Torremolinos, however the flat promenade makes the walk very pleasant and relatively easy. There's plenty of beach bars/restaurants along the way too, so no need to do it all in one go if long walks aren't really your thing. With two young-ish children, we found getting the local bus (which stops right outside the hotel) in to the town centre, then walking back to the hotel past all the shops etc, about right. Due to the heat, we wouldn't have dared walked there and back.
The entertainment in the hotel was mixed. There were some really good evening shows, which our children loved. The magic show and the flamenco dancers seemed to be both my daughters favourites, and the singing/dancing acts, generally, were very entertaining. But now comes my biggest moan of the whole holiday.....the parrot show! After roughly a 10 minute show, which again our children thought was really good, the guys who ran the show pestered everyone in the room to have their photo taken with one of the parrots, at considerable cost. They didn't do it in a nice way. If felt really pressured, and many people looked quite uncomfortable with the way the parrot was just plonked on peoples shoulders. It genuinely felt like being bullied. The hotel could do a lot worse than replace the parrot show in my opinion.
The kids club and daytime activities were more than adequate and the team worked really hard to keep everyone entertained. Top marks to the lifeguards too, who were always watching and helping people around the pools. We almost always managed to find some sunbeds around the pool, however we noticed lots of sunbeds with towels on them which never got used at any point during the day. It seemed that some guests were placing their towels on the loungers at the start of the day, in case they wanted to use them at some point, but never actually laid on them and simply collected their towels later in the day. On two occasions I moved the towels on to the floor so we could use the beds. I'd rather not have to do that, but we had little choice.
One thing definitely worth mentioning, is the hotel staff. Even though we've been home over three months, my eldest still talks fondly of the maître d' and the bar staff who all made a fuss of the kids. All the staff we saw worked extremely hard, but always had a smile for the guests. They definitely made our holiday extra special.
We feel we really landed on our feet with this hotel. Apart from the parrot show, I really can't think of a fault worth mentioning. Okay, maybe the towels/sunbed problem around the pool, but this is really the fault of a small number of inconsiderate guests rather than the hotel itself. Other than that, for the price, I really don't think hotels get any better than this to be honest.
In fact, as the title of this review suggests, we've just booked to go back (just me and my wife this time) for four nights in December for a little break. When we return, we'll be booking our family summer holiday for next year, and I'm pretty sure we'll be returning to The Marconfort Beach Club for the third time in a little over 12 months.....
Says it all really!
All rooms have a side sea view, however the pool side of the hotel has better views along the beach...
