“Still a Good Little Base”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

August 2012
Been to this hotel a number of times over the past 18 years
Have seen the changes, but still love it
The staff was the same friendly and helpful
It has now been sold to the Russians but could not find out what is happening for 2013 onwards other that it is to be refurbished
I have tried to book it for September 2013 but unable to contact anyone, so have had to book elsewhere within the area, but will investigate the el tiburon then

Walked by on a visit in April to be met by Pedro and Juan coming out of the shell of the building with bags of cement and other building materials. They remembered us from our previous visits and told us that the Hotel would re-open in 3 months and will still be called El Tiburon,

Judging by the "Derelict" state of the place, I would say there predictions are somewhat optimistic to say the least!!

All the rooms have been gutted and bathrooms/windows and doors removed and new fittings are to be installed along with air conditioning. The dining room is supposed to be being brought back into use also and a revamped pool area is still to be carried out.

Personally, I can't see the place being open this season, but, as they say, "Watch This Space!!"

We stayed here in July 2012 and it was incredibly hot! The only issue I had with the hotel was there is a fan in the room but its not that good and its really noisy so it could keep you awake at night. Other than that, I had a lovely experience here! its in a great location, its quiet at night, rooms are reasonably big with t.v, bath, shower, wardrobe, balcony with chairs etc. The room is clean and the maid comes everyday, but you have to be up! she makes your bed, fresh towels and cleans. The only annoying thing, but it wasnt the hotels fault; there were really noisy people next door and theyd be talking from about 6am everday! Got woken up a few times, but like i said its not the hotels fault. We had a room on the ground floor, so were really close to the pool. However, this isn't a problem as its still private as we were in the corner. The pools lovely with a seating area up high, this is a lovely sun trap! To be honest, we spent most the time on the beach. There's a lovely little bar that's open 24hours and you can get drinks any time. The staff are lovely and friendly and quite funny! I had a bit of a bad experience at the beginning of the holiday, someone picked up my case at the airport, however, it was returned to the hotel and the staff were very good with this and bought the case to my room when it arrived. I'd love to come back to this hotel as it was lovely experience and the staff made you feel very welcome. Im going back to this location in July this year, but staying in a hotel slightly further up. However, when its renovated, i will definitely be returning! The reason im going back in july, is because when we were there last year, they had a big event on (something to do with fishing). But there are parties in the street, really lively, and down the hill towards the beach (really near the hotel), they put a makeshift festival thing down there and theres live music and loads of people and a bar. Definitely go to this if you get the chance! We had a great time dancing with the spanish, was so much fun and it doesnt finish till about 4!!! Also, down near the harbour (about a 20min walk) theres one night where they have the most amazing fire works about 11pm and around 9pm theres a large boat that comes past the harbour, go to this such a lovely experience!! The harbour is amazing with lovely restaurants, bars, some night clubs. All along the beach front there are lovely fish restaurants and little beach bars. Im not sure where it is along the front, however, theres a lovely bar where you can sit on deck chairs on the beach and there are fire things; just a wonderful setting! If you go to the beach front and turn left, go to the end and around the corner, you come to a new part, again, lovely bars and restaurants and more beaches. If you do eat out, have the goats cheese salad or prawns pil pil. You can get it in most restaurants, its delicious!! I must say, one of the best holidays ever, and this hotel was part of it. A great location! Really lively, so much to do, what id call a classy place to visit! I could go on, but id advise you, go to this location!! And if you can, stay in this hotel. I will write another review on my next visit this year and will advise you on that hotel too. From experience, you cant go wrong!!

Room Tip: Make sure you go after its renovated as they may get aircon, if not, be prepared to be hot with just...

This hotel was a lovely place to stay we have been back there several times on our last visit in sept we found out the hotel had been sold and was closing for a referb. It will be a shame if prices go sky high as it is in a nice location

El Tiburon- a small & very pleasant hotel. Good food, friendly staff. Rooms are basic but clean & well maintained. The pool & patio area well frequented by most of the guests. The hotel is only 5 minutes walk from the beach front with a whole range of bars, restaurants & shops. A fantastic place to holiday with a convenient bus service to Torremolinos &, Fuengirola
