“I take it back - still Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2011

I previously said that I thought the sparkle had gone, but I take it back. I have stayed in the Tiburon twice this year. Once for 3 nights in June with my girlfriends and again in July for 4 nights with my other and his two grown up kids. The place is a lot cleaner than it was last year. Nothing has changed of course, the staff and decor are still the same but it just felt happier this time.

I don’t think I did a review after I stayed there last year but if you do happened to get put on the top floor please ask to me moved straight away, there is a water pump on the roof that will keep you awake all night.

I will say that it is a shame the owners don’t give the Tiburon a little TLC. As you enter reception there are some photos on the right hand side. One of them is of all the employee’s, smiling, wearing uniforms and looking very happy. At least 3 of the staff in the picture are still there but it is certainly a picture of happier times.
Feel free to ask me any questions.

(this is the best 2** hotel on the C-D-S ) After staying in a nearby hotel for the last 3 years ,my wife and I decided on a change of hotel, best move we have made, 14 nights for a real bargain price ,room only of course, that way you can either, eat in the el tiburon, choice of various english breakfast meals, and late afternoon - evening meals, all reasonably priced and well cooked. Or, you can opt for an almost endless choice, of cafe"s, bars , and restraunts, all within 10 to 15 mins walk. As for the hotel itself, (cheap) (CLEAN) friendly staff, 70% speak english, nice pool area , adequate sunbeds,if you can stand the heat.you can travel miles, on local transport, for less than 2 euros.(que mas quieres) ( by the way" DENNIS "i hope your back is better) ps,already booked for next year. viva espana.( sorry no tilda) B & G brixham devon.

Hotel is perfectly suited for young smokers, 24 hr reception for the late ones, ashtrays provided, maid was v friendly, (tho we didn't share the same language) she didn't seem to mind too much about the joint ends she fished from under "mi amigos" bed. Every time we came back to the hotel, we had a litre of beer each (1.80) and often hadn't slept yet, Christine all ways had a welcoming smile waiting for us!

If your a young traveller looking for cheap, smoker friendly accommodation, el tiburon is the place for you, a short walk from the beach you can score some of the best hachis and herb in the world!

First time stayers at the El Tirburn having heard it was good value whilst being only a two star hotel. I thought the hotel was basic not modern but not unattractive either, our room was of good size but no air condition just a roof fan which doesn't provide enough in that heat, you should leave the balcony doors open! The deposit box is 27e and you get 6e back which isn't great really. The majority of the staff are nice (cleaners especially) but I have to strongly concur with everyone about the woman who runs the hotel. As soon as we entered the place I could see it in her face...Miserable, unwelcoming...I mean we've come all this way to stay and have a good time and she kills the mood instantly! She doesn't ask about your journey, doesn't take you to your room or nothing. Most of the time she watches TV or eats at the bar. And its funny reading other reviews now that I'm back because its also true that it feels like a fuss or a chore to ask her to do something and you dread going downstairs! Sorry but if you think that 'we didn't spend time to get to know her' then that's not the way it works guys! Otherwise great location to front and beach and not that far from airport either. So my advice would be either pay more and go somewhere with more luxury or read theses reviews and know that when you get there don't bother being nice and smiling when shes around. Luckily she isn't around everyday yay!

well first of all, thanks to those who gave us all the gen on el tiburon. though we have been to la carihuela many times[a friends apartment] we have spent the last 15yrs going to kenya. as we are not going to kenya till november we looked for a cheap hol in spain and picked the tiburon, so we came on here read the reviews, some were good others bad, but we went for it. all i can say is it was brill[apart from the laughing cow] all the main staff were just great the place was spotliss clean towels every day, and the ladys that done the cleaning also great, had a lovely breakfast every morning, could not get over the price of the drinks at the bar[9 eur for vodka/sprits barcardi/coke] and they were a good size. swimming pool not big but ok, had a lovely view from balcony looking out to sea, 5mins walk on the beach, aswe like to eat spanish found nice resturant on front[la cigala] also 10mins from hotel. the only down side was having to vacate our room at 12am and our flight not being till 21-50 could not have a shower befor we left, even having asked the LADY if we payed could we keep our room and got a NO. having spoken to many of the other quest who had been going there for years we found out if when we had checked in we had explained about our flight we could have kept it for a 20eur more. so would we go back again YES YES YES

Well what can i say....this is one of the best long weekend breaks i have ever had had no complaints ....and this is coming from an ex-travel agent.
We arrived on the Friday into Malaga and jumped straight into a taxi which cost 20 euros from airport to hotel, the trip itself was literally ten minutes, as we had no suitcases apart from hand luggage we were in our hotel room 30mins after the plane had landed, such is the proximity to the airport.
We were checked in personally by the owner christina, which you may have heard from previous reports is a bit of a misery...well at first glance you can easily be forgiven for agreeing, but once you take time to chat to her, shes actually quite pleasant and runs a tight ship
Our room was great it was spotless, clean sheets, immaculate bathroom, cant fault it really, even had aircon and a 14inch telly to top it off.room size was generous given the fact that it was only a 2star.
The hotel lobby is ok enough,it has a bar with the chef at the back who cooks a mean bacon butty in the morning, and the prices are reasonable too for drinks, brews, and other goodys.
Pool is passable, its clean enough as you would expect from christina, its just not exactly the olympic sized you get at the aloha puerto , but having said that youre in budget accomadation.but there are sunloungers and it keeps shade well ,ideal after a hot day on the beach.
Location wise it doesnt get any better, you are only around 100 meters from the beach and about 50 meters from the strip at La Carrihuella, and about a 10 minute walk along the promenade from the marina at Benalmadena. Also i must point out that within the close vicinity of the hotel all the terrain is very flat, ideal for the elderly, young families, disabled or anybody with any walking difficulties.even though its central its not rowdy , as you dont get the 18-30 brigade in that area, they left in the 1980s,so my mum tells me.
La Carrihuella itself retains its charm and is not an imposing resort, and its easy to make freinds as most people tend to frequent the same bars and eateries.Although its a bit pricey on the "main drag" you can save a few quid if you have a wonder of the beaten track.
The beach is great its approx 4.50 euros per bed per day with brolly, which is quite cheaped compared to other spanish resorts, the sand is clean and the "sunbed men" take pride in keeping it spick n span.
Overall we had a great little break and are going back in September,

Our room was very clean, light and airy with a nice sized bathroom. The balcony was a decent size and had a pool view. We found the staff to be helpful and friendly including Christina. She is a bit stern looking, but when we spoke to her and were friendly, she was friendly back. The hotel was budget accommodation but for £12 each per night I could'nt fault it. The pool although not the prettiest, always had beds free and the deck is sunny until about 7pm, we mainly spent time on the beach though.

Location wise it doesnt get much better. It takes about 15 minutes from Malaga airport to get to the hotel in a taxi transfer. It takes literally 2 minutes to walk to the beach. There is a street with numerous lovely restaurants and bars at the back of the hotel, although I must stress this street is not tacky or noisy. It is a 20 min walk along the beach to the marina area at Benalmedina, where again there are some nice restaurants and bars. We walked along to the main Torremolinos beach, again about a 20 min walk in the other direction, but felt it was not as nice as our beach.

The beach by the hotel was lovely, with some fantastic beach restaurants and shacks. The sunbeds were great with thick new cushions on them and they only cost 4E for the day. If you walk along the street the hotel is on towards the marina, there are also a few resaurants and bars further up. Thats where we found the restaurant called the Spanish Garden, it was great quality and service. We ate from both the set menu 16E for 3 courses and the main menu, all the food was fabulous.

All in all we had a great time and the resort was a nice suprise as we thought it might be tacky! Nightlife wise it was pretty quiet. In the centre of torremolinos (shopping district) there is a gay area with some bars and nightclubs. We went to Passion and heard that Home was also good. They play mainly house music, you'll pay a lot more for your drinks here though. It's not particularly touristy in this area though, in fact its mainly spanish and only busy on a Friday and Saturday night. Otherwise there are a few nice late bars by the marina and there is the area they call the 24 hour square in Benalmedina. We went one night to have a look, and didnt like it. It was very tacky and full of teenagers downing shots. Its away from the sea front and the marina though, so unless yoou specifically go there you wont come across it. Other than that there is an abundance of nice and relaxed bars, cafes and restaurants throughout the resort and we didnt find them particularly overpriced.

This is the first spanish beach holiday I've had in years and I enjoyed it and would recommend the Carihuela area of resort to anyone who wanted sun, a nice beach and a great variety of restaurants.
