“winter sun break”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

Stayed at the hotel Cervantes as a couple at the end of October.

Hotel is nice enough, and if you can get it at a decent price for bed and breakfast then it is ideal. The rooms were nice enough, the reception area was impressive and staff were all pretty helpful when we needed them.

The hotel is ideally located, the train station is just out the back of the hotel (underground.... no noise), and the sea views are great.

We went all inclusive, and felt it was a bit of a let down on that front. The food was nice, but there wasn't a huge choice, and (for some unknown reason) on a saturday morning there seems to be a lengthy queue for breakfast. Outside of meal times there isn't really anything to eat, which means if you fancy a snack you need to pay. They did have croissants, bread and cheese etc sitting out in the bar, but none of it was covered and didn't look particularly appetising.

The drinks at the bar stop at 11pm, which is quite early, and the all inclusive selection is quite limited (includes peach schnapps..... but an alcohol free version?) There also only appears to be entertainment on a fri and sat night during off season, and even that wasn't great.

The pool area is quite small, and while it was fine for us, I don't know what it would be like in high season.

In summary as a base for a nice break in the area, it is great if you get a good deal, but I would go bed and breakfast as there are so many places that look lovely to eat and drink nearby.

“Ten days in torremolinos”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

Our top floor room was fine: very clean, fresh linen, instant hot water, efficient plumbing. TV was dated, some disturbance from late-night revellers and bottle-bank emptying. Plenty of food but somewhat second division - bought cheap, lacked flavour, some frozen vegetables (carrots, sprouts) badly cooked and inedible. We always found something to our taste,
though, with the best offerings from the griddle: fish, pork, chicken.
Good central location - we enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors overlooking pool have sea view

“Our stay at the Cervantes 27/10 to 3/11”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

The hotel is impressive on arrival. We arrived at 11.00am, the room was not ready, and we were asked to return at 1.30. The hotel allowed us to leave our luggage in a secure room which was helpful. After returning at 1.30 we were given a room on the 5th floor which had views of the pool, sea and streets below. The room decor is very dated and tired; the beds were uncomfortable and could also do with updating. Despite what others say we did not find our room as clean as it could have been - the floor was very dusty.

We found all the staff very plesant and helpful.

My son & I went swimming in the large outside pool - cold but refreshing. The rooftop pool is shallow and very warm. The views from the rooftop terrace are fantastic.

Given the number of guests the hotel caters for the food was very good, with a good variety to suit most tastes. The grilled meats and fish were excellent.

No need for private transfers from Malaga airport - take the train it's very very straight forward, on exiting Torremolinos train station look up to your right on you will see the hotel sign "Hotel Cervantes".

We were staying half board which we were very glad of as we were able to try the many different restaurants, on the most notable was the Valero on the prom nearly opposite the lift (for those who don't want to walk).

There is a lovely cake shop very near the hotel, lovely cakes to eat in with coffee or to take away nicely wrapped.

If it's a wet day take the train to Malaga, walk to the main shopping street and the narrow cobbled streets off it, you'll find many restaurants & cafes.

If you want to go to Benalmadena the just walk along the prom, about 45 mins, along the way you pass many interesting places to eat and various shops. There is a public wc in the centre of the 2nd car park in the centre of the marina.

We had a great week even though it rained a lot some days.

Room Tip: A room on the 5,6 or 7th floors are best for views, ending in 04 - 09 if you want afternoon & ev...

“Nopoolroom”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

This hotel is spotless and the staff are lovely, however there is no entertainment although brochure claims there is. The pool area has inadequate seating area and you have to queue if you want a space. We were there with a young baby and had to go to the beach as we were unable to queue. Not much variety on the menu and we were not allowed a late check out even although we were prepared to pay the £30 charge. It did not merit a 4 star rating
