“Amazing getaway.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2014

We stayed with you from the 19th to the 26th of June 2014 and it was great in everyway. Staff were all very friendly and the entertainment at night was great. The rooms were very clean and the beds were very comfy.

The only downsides were drinks and snacks were really expensive (around €4.20 for a bottle of lager) and the deserts at the evening meal were not labeled up and didn't mention if they contained nuts or not, which we later found out most of them did.

Lots nearby and no need to travel far for anything at all. The beach is only a a few hundred meters away from the hotel, the pools are normally very quiet and if they're a bit busy I always found the indoor pool was empty which was handy if you wanted to get some lengths in without dodging past people.

Overall we was very happy with everything and really enjoyed out stay. We would definitely love to come back in the future.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing the outdoor entertainment section if you want a quiet night in bed as it gets VER...

We stayed at the Sol Don Pablo for a week at the start of July. The receptionist we had didn't exactly sell the hotel, we arrived just before a delegation from Caterpillar who seem to have links with the hotel (a shop selling Caterpillar clothing etc is in the hotel) and felt that he wanted us out the way so that he could deal with the delegation.
The room was fine, clean and tidy, with a view towards Torremolinos and side view of the sea. The door to the balcony had gaps around it which caused problems with noise at night. There was basic furniture on the balcony which did the job. The minibar was locked, you have to pay for a key which means you can't keep water etc cool in the room. There was a safe which costs 14 euro for the week. The beds were reasonably comfortable and the rooms were kept clean every day with fresh towels in the bathroom.
The food in the restaurant was good, a decent selection, we found sitting out in the conservatory area was far better, quieter and away from the hubbub around the buffet. There is supposed to be a dress code with men to wear long trousers in the evening but it was largely ignored.
The pools were good, the 'straight' one between the Don Pablo and Don Pedro seemed to be a bit salty. A couple of the pools have deep ends over 2 meters deep. The entertainment staff work hard, long hours but always cheerful and quick to recognise you. The shows were ok some outside acts supplemented by the hotel entertainers and one show was a version of The Lion King with kids in the hotel taking part which was good.
The down points I would say were the reception staff, lack of WiFi (almost impossible to log into the free one and constant requests to sign up to a paid WiFi) and noise in the hotel at night from surrounding rooms, there appears to be no soundproofing between the rooms and if people sit out on the balcony and chat you can hear every word.
Overall it is a nice hotel, not as 4* as some 4* hotels we have stayed in, but we had a good time.

Room Tip: Go for an even number non-smoking room, one that faces Malaga

We have just returned from a 3 night break at the Sol Don Pablo. My sister and I enjoyed our time in Torremolinos and we found the Sol Don Pablo to be a pleasant, family-friendly hotel.

Positives:
The location is very good - 5-10 minute taxi ride from the airport and the hotel is situated right across from the beach. You also have use of all 3 'Sol Don' hotels in the complex.
The hotel is very clean and the cleaners do a very good job. Hotel rooms are cleaned every day with fresh towels and bedding provided. The pools and pool areas are also cleaned every morning.
The staff are all very friendly (although do not speak much English). The kids entertainers do a great job every evening keeping the kids occupied with games / discos etc.
The room is nice but I would describe it as more of a 3 star hotel room (although the bathroom is more 4 star - with a rainfall shower and modern facilities). There are no English TV channels (apart from BBC world news), no iron and the door to the balcony does not feel very secure (only lock is a chain lock).
The hotel has a number of pools and plenty of sunbeds and seating areas (although people do reserve them although there are signs saying not to!)
There is a different type of entertainment every evening (including 45mins for kids). This may not be to everyone's taste, but we found it entertaining (especially the Grease musical production!)

Negatives:
There is no free WIFI available in the rooms or public areas in the hotel. The only free WIFI is available in the small bar area so you often found crowds of people sat there on phones / tablets using the WIFI. I find this extremely unacceptable in a '4 star' hotel. It is the 21st century and I have not been to any other 4 star hotel that doesn't provide free WIFI throughout the hotel - this was a great disappointment (although I understand would not be important to everyone).
The room does not have any air con that you can control yourself. The staff advised that the air con is controlled centrally depending on the time of year, however we found our room to be very warm and stuffy in the 30 degree temperatures we were faced with during our time in Spain!
The food in the hotel is very basic and some of the dinner options very poorly prepared. For example, one evening we tried the pasta with a tomato sauce to find out the pasta was horribly overcooked and soggy and it was accompanied by Heinz tomato soup rather than a pasta sauce!! Very off-putting! The breakfasts are much better and cater for many tastes overall. If you, or your children, are fussy eaters then I would not recommend the half-board option at this hotel!
The hotel staff were very welcoming when we arrived, but did not give us any directions around the hotel (apart from to our room). It would have been nice to point out the bar, directions to the pool and dining areas. We had to find out way round the hotel on our own.
The room was very noisy at night - mainly because we were overlooking roads and the door to the balcony is very poorly secured, meaning noise easily travelled through into the room.
We didn't explore the local area as we were only here for 3 days, however the restaurants and bars around the hotel looked a bit shabby and run-down so were not very inviting! There is a Burger King just around the corner for those that like to get their fast-food fix!

Overall, it was a pleasant 3-day break, although I couldn't see myself staying for a longer holiday and I don't think I will return in the future.

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the pools or sea view (extra charge).

We felt very welcomed on arrived and felt very much at home. All the staff were friendly and very helpful especially the sun adviser that sold us some sun lotion and help me out when i felt off colour whilst talking to her. I hope to see all the same staff are there time we come back. The beds were very comfortable, especially the pillows. The location of the hotel ideal as you can walk into town in about 40 minutes and very close to the sovienier shops. It has lots of sandy beaches, and lots of water sports you can do on the sea. Also has a bike shop were you can rent a bike out for the day and the hotel also had Spa where you could go and get pampered for half day. There is also very nice Chinese Resturant round the corner from the hotel which was recommended to us and is good value for money. I did not want to leave the resort as it has lots to offer people wherever you are single or have a family and its has nice scenery. Only 15 minutes by Taxi from Malaga airport. The bit we like about hotel was round swimming pool and the bit we liked least was the strobe lighting throughout the show which meant we can to miss the show.

Dear Sarah Margaret H,
Thank you for your review of the Sol Don Pablo. We appreciate the time spent after returning home and thank you for your positive comments. I am sorry to hear that the strobe lighting in some of the shows was a problem. We have live music in the evening in another area of the complex which is more relaxing.
I hope that we see you again in the future.
Kind regards,
Jaime Floyer.

Wow, wow, this is our third visit to Sol Don Pablo, and it was brilliant, we had same room on fifth floor as last year, and a bottle of champagne on arrival for our ruby wedding. The staff were excellent throughout the hotel, meals were superb, Cava for breakfast, can't be bad!!we are already planning our next visit. Many Thanks for a great week, Carole Fox (Wordsley ) West Midlands

Another great holiday at the Pablo, brilliant new swimming pools and terraces, just one disappointment archery and shooting are no longer available, though they have tried their best with a computer version of shooting but it didnt quite hit the spot for us. Will definitely be back next year

Room Tip: if sun in afternoon and evening are for you ask for bowling green side

Dear Sheila G,
It is wonderful to hear from returning guests and we are very happy to hear that you hope to return again. Thanks for writing in to let us all know.
It is a shame about the shooting; a lot of our guests enjoy it and sadly Health & Safety has put an end to it. Our laser shooting is great fun but I understand that it doesn't quite feel the same.
We look forward to welcoming you back.
Kind regards,
Jaime.
