“Cutbacks”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

This was my third visit to this hotel the hotel and staff and location are still very good, but there seems to have been a lot of cutbacks, the food was terrible, every morning i had to set my own table for breakfast as there was not enough staff to do it, its a shame but i will not be going back

Room Tip: Get a room pool side

Having read the good reviews before we went, we were very disappointed on arrival, we were given a room on the 5th floor facing the pool. We have never seen such a small room in a hotel, the bathroom was tiny, it was not possible to open the door fully (the toilet was right at the side of it), and to get to the toilet was a juggling act with the door. We asked to move to a bigger room but was informed that they were all pretty much the same, we later found out this is not true. There was a small wardrobe with 10 hangers, no drawers in the room except the small one in the small bedside cabinets. We have stayed in many hotels around Spain but this was by far the smallest room by a very long way. No storage space in the bedroom or bathroom (for toiletries etc)
The only lift broke down many times during our 2 week stay resulting in a 5 floor climb up the stairs. Food is OK but not much variation and lacking ideas.
The air conditioning was cold but extremely noisy to the point of being unable to sleep with it on and unable to sleep with it off due to the heat, despite reporting it and being promised to be fixed it never was, the same went for the fridge which was never fixed as it didn't get cold.
We had a huge ANT infestation which was cleared but promises to seal the hole where they were coming from never happened, this was the same for both our neighbours too.
The 30 Euro charge to keep the room for an extra 2 hours on departure day seems a bit expensive.
I believe this hotel receives many repeat customers who want to think they are good friends with the staff and who somehow think this is a good hotel, but I can assure you that there are many much better hotels to choose from and the test for me is "would we return?" and the answer is a clear NO. I know this may be against what many people have said, but it is our honest view of our experience.

Room Tip: Don't go for the top floor.

We have just returned from a week´s holiday in Torremolinos and I chose this hotel from the internet and I wasn´t disappointed. It is small and friendly and you feel like one of the family.
The rooms are comfortable and clean and the towels are changed every day. The food is excellent and good value for money compared to other hotels. The staff were so helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The hotel is situated two minutes from the
beach and the shops. I wouldn´t hesitate to recommend this hotel and will return there myself
whenever I can.

We stayed in the middle of June the hotel was full, small hotel but big in service all the staff are excellent they couldn't do enough for us. The rooms were clean and tidy and a reasonable size. The balcony overlooked the pool area was small but adequate. The breakfast was not the best but there was enough choice for everyone. Evening meals very good plenty choice and good quality.
The bar had a good choice of drinks and was reasonably priced
The one bad thing about the hotel which stops it being excellent it can be difficult changing money on a Sunday dont use the hotel Reception I was offered only 1.02 euros to the pound when the rate elsewhere was was 1.21 to the pound

It is important to have a room on the side of the pool, not street. The street is a little noisy during the night. The room was small, bathroom ok, but with leaking watter below the glass curtain. Clean service could be better and they left the balcony door opened after cleaning, that is a little bit risky. The vault was for the fee 2 eur/day.
The meal was good but for the dinner, all hot meals were fried, even side dishes and vegetables, so do not be surprise by your weight after arrival :) It is a pity, because the range of food was wide.
The staff was nice and helpful. Pool was good and the hotel is in excellent location. I would give 3.5* if it was possible.

We have stayed at this hotel five times now over the past 3 or 4 years and the quality and standard still remains the same. Just home from the week 17th-24th June. Weather was roasting. We also like Majorca and parts of the Costa Brava, but have really taken to the Don Paquito when holidaying in Terremolinos. It offers what we like, high standard of cleanliness, decent if smallish rooms, great food, friendly and hard working staff and not too noisy. The air conditioning also works a treat. Don't get me wrong, we like to dip in and out of the holiday high spirits, but the Don Paquito offers a bit of a sanctuary away from the husstle and bustle.
The hotel is very well placed for the promenade and beach at Playamar where there is a great selection of fish restuarants and junkery shops along the front. Is also handy enough for the town if using the lift up about 1/4 mile away. (Lift up and walk down) costs 50 cents a time.
Reviews are generally good for the Don Paquito and we think on balance fairly accurate. There is really not much you could complain about. If you like a busy and noisy place with tacky entertainment and where there is a bit of mayhem, go elsewhere. There is no entertainment at this hotel, but if you fancy taking in some decent shows, hop in to one of the large Sol hotels next door. They will be pleased to see your cash. There is a very good pub at the side of the hotel, Capos bar and the the landlord Derek and his Spanish wife Toni make you feel most welcome. Good meeting place for people staying at all the hotels round about.
At this time of year, there are many guests from UK and they all mixed well. There were a few Spanish couples there and for the first time I saw kids at the hotel. It might just be a bit boring for children at Don Paquito unless they would be content with being in and out of the pool all day. The pool is glorious by the way and must be the warmest water abroad I have ever been in.
All in all, another really enjoyable stay at Don Paquito and we expect to visit again for a short break early December.

Room Tip: Pool views are at the back and get the sun all day and are quiet at night.
