“Heritage has several properties”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

As I read the previous reviews, it became apparent that various properties were being described. Playa Real is the central hotel which houses reception, the indoor pool, sauna and fitness room.

Compared to some of the other Heritage properties that we have stayed at in the area, the Playa Real is fast becoming dated and slightly worn. Some TLC is needed.

The one-bedroom unit was quite small, with the very smallest master bedroom we have ever occupied in Spain. The bed was a double, not a queen. There was not room for even a dresser. There is no dishwasher in the one-bedroom units. The bathroom was adequate with two sinks.

The cleaning service changes towels and sheets once mid-week. Bathroom counters seem to be ignored.

The reception staff was very friendly and helpful. When our DVD player and washing machine didn't work, they were replaced within the hour.

The indoor pool area is very clean, but there was usually sand in the whirlpool. The men's and ladies' dressing rooms flood any time anyone uses the shower.

The outside pool/garden area is nicely landscaped and extends down right to the beach. A lovely place to sit, read and enjoy the waves.

After reading previous reviews, we went in with very low expectations and we were pleasantly surprised!

It was a bit difficult to find, so more and bigger signage is needed. Epecially on the service road off A7, as we missed the turn. Our condo in Toro was behind a security gate, grounds and pool area were clean and landscaped, surrounding wall had some stucco peeling off but it gave a rustic feel & did not offend us. Neither did the mild mildew smell that is found at any resort near an ocean. Opening the doors to air the unit for a few hours solves the problem.

We had car port parking at ground level under the condo, which was located on the second floor. The unit was very clean with a well stocked kitchen. Living area had a hide-a-bed couch, TV and French doors leading to a ocean view veranda with a table and chairs where we ate meals and had drinks. :-)

A double bed private bedroom with plenty of clean linens and attached full bathroom was on the third floor, it also had French doors leading to a sea view balcony. Again everything was clean.

We didn't use any resort amenities outside of El Toro, and we had a hired car to travel the surrounding towns like Ronda, Sevilla, Tarifa (take a boat to Morocco). We highly recommend this! We were to busy to sit through sales pitch, and were not bothered by resort staff to do so.

Our only major complaint is that the coin operated washer and dryer at El Toro do not work. Don't waste your time with them! Go to the gas station on A-7 and do your laundry there. Great fast food stand directly behind the Laundromat, so you can eat an affordable meal also.

All in all we enjoyed our stay at Club Marbesa and will be back, hopefully next year. :-D

Arrived here in the evening and check in was very quick. We had been upgraded to a two bedroom unit with sea view. Unit was well equiped for 6 people, and there was only two of us !!
As it was January and dark by 6pm it was pleasent to have a television showing BBC and ITV. The complex is 10mins drive from Marbella if you want night life. We just wanted a restfull week with walks on the beach and meals out at night. The two restaurants at the resort were very good with reasonable prices. The restaurants at the camp site up the road are more spanish and very welcoming.
The only problem we found, was locating the unit following check in. The Key that is allocated opens a gate to the car park. In the dark this was quite difficult to find. Maybe a staff member should accompany you to the unit.
Staff were all very helpful and we would stay at this resort again

Room Tip: We stayed in 511. It had a large open plan lounge dinning area, kitchen, two bedrooms, two bathrooms an...

Great accommodation and a nice area, looking out to sea with lots of bars and restaurants on the beach. Its all kept very clean and the apartment was very comfortable. Great customer service. A quality place and I'd return there any day.

We arranged the stay at the Marbella Beach Club through RCI, our timeshare exchange company. If you are not familiar with RCI you should know that this is one of the resorts that is rated so high that you are only permitted to stay here once every three years if you do not own here. I have stayed at other Gold Crown resorts and this one is not deserving of this rating or any other high rating.

The pros: The two bedroom unit is very large and has two full bathrooms, a very complete kitchen with a dishwasher and a washing machine, a patio overlooking the pool and garden with doors that lead to the beach across the street, and a nice pool area. The resort is close to fabulous places-Marbella, Puerto Banus, Malaga, Ronda, Gibraltar and many more- not that to fully enjoy the area a car is a must.

The cons: We found the complex very difficult to find every time we left- there is minimal signage and if you are coming to the complex at night it is very poorly lit or not lit. The underground parking garage is very poorly lit to the point of being dangerous. The lights in the garage work on sensors but they do not stay on for a long enough period of time and you must walk through the pitch black garage. The area for elevator up from the garage also is very poorly lit and the switches which are supposed to provide light don't work properly- it is impossible to see the elevator buttons without lights and it is dangerous both from the perspective of tripping and not seeing your surroundings. We did complain but nothing was done.

The unit had an awful smell to it and it is clear they must have been aware of it as there were plug-in air fresheners in the wall. If you opened the sliding door to let fresh air in there was a distinct smell of cat urine on the patio

There was an awful smell in all of the closets, the refrigerator, the dishwasher and washing machine and the safe.

The mattress in the master bedroom was quite uncomfortable and was not a queen size bed but a small double- and although no one slept in the second bedroom the two beds looked the size of the small single beds you would find in a college dormitory- fine for kids but would not be fine for adults.

Both of the couches in the living room were extremely uncomfortable and difficult to sit on for any length of time

Having to pay 5 euro for each beach towel is a total rip off- I have never been charged anything but a deposit to ensure the return of pool towels any place we have ever stayed.

The beach was not particularly clean and we decided to use the pool instead

Also ridiculous is the charge for the WIFI which is not charged at other timeshares. 30euro for a week is absurd.

The washing machine will hold no more than 4 to 5 shirts at a time, so if you are counting on doing laundry while there you will have to daily loads to keep up

The ac units are extremely loud so that when they cycle on and off there is a loud screeching noise that sounds like cats howling- this woke us several times at night.
A woman came to our unit one morning unannounced and introduced herself as an RCI representative who was interested in finding out about our stay. We mentioned all of the list above to her and she asked if we would meet with someone from the hotel the next morning to tell them our concerns. Before agreeing, I specifically asked if this was going to be a sales pitch for anything and she not only assured me that it would not be but noted that the hotel management really needed to hear these concerns so that they could address them- it was on these terms that we agreed to attend; not only was it a sales pitch, but when I told him that we were told he wanted to know what we thought of the resort, he pretended to be interested and then told me because we were Americans we had higher expectations of the timeshare resorts than Europeans and we had to understand that this was a great resort compared to other European resorts. My response was to tell him that was not true and tell him which others we had stayed in locally that were much nicer- his response was a shrug. He could have cared less about what we had to say.

As I reread this review I realized how much we really did not care for this resort but I want to be sure anyone reading this understands that I am not the type to complain and can always find something about a resort to make me happy. The best thing about this resort was leaving.

Room Tip: Ask to see your room before you check-in so you can decide if it is acceptable.

I stayed here in one of the villas which are on a nice residential road away from the hotel. I was with my husband and 4 yr old. We found it very safe as grids on doors and windows, felt secure and could close these and open doors during the day to keep little one safe from the pool in the garden. It is quiet and we did have a car but that's what we wanted. The sea is a short walk and ther is a great beach restaurant called Rama close by. Fresh fish daily and tables right on the sand.really enjoyed the stay but would not have liked to be in the hotel. It felt dated. The villa had outdoor furniture and garden plus veranda. Very well equipped kitchen. If any negative it would be that it could do with a refurb. It was perfectly clean just very busy fabrics from the 80's!

Using my timeshare based in Asia I decided to exchange a week to go to mainland Spain.
We booked the above and spent a week here from 15th Sept to 22nd Sept2012.
Having read some of the reviews we were a little concerned.

When we arrived the checkin procedure was very quick and informative with English speaking staff who were very helpful.

Our room located in room 302 top floor of the hotel was well equipped if a little dated, but none the less perfectly usable.
The flat sreen tv had only three English channels CBBC, ITV South West region and Sky News, all in all very poor choice.
The safe in the room was free no hidden room charges.

Having to hire for 5 euros a towel to sit on the sun beds was a rip off and feel they should be supplied free as they are by other resorts.

The indoor pool was freezing, it stated in the blurb it was a heated pool. The sauna was a waste of time took far too long to heat up from cold.

Again using the gym or indoor pool no towels were available to use, you had to either supply your own or hire.

Plenty of loungers were available around the outside large pool.

Good hotel etiquette is practiced at this resort, other than around the pool area the wearing of a top is a must in the restaurant and reception areas. Well done the hotel.
A very good info area is located in the reception area, giving attractions timetables etc, so no excuses for being bored.

The beach from the hotel area is less than two minutes walk. Beware jelly fish, an app is available for phone users if you have one that gives details and warnings etc.
Having a car is a must if visiting this hotel, but it only has a small car park with no reserved parking.
Nearest supermarket is 5 minutes walk away, though closed on Sunday.
If without a car there are bus stops on the main road about 8minutes walk away which can take you to Marbella, Puerto Banus, Calahonda, Malaga, Fuengirolla and plenty of other places.

No WiFi is at the hotel which is pretty poor.

We were as usual accosted by the timeshare guys in the hotel. In truth I was braced to tell them where to go having held my timeshare for over 13years. We were introduced to Trevor who we shared a breakfast with. He was fantastic, as a rep he was not pushy didn't try to force things onto us we didn't want or need, all in a very good bloke who done his job very well whilst understanding and aware of our goals. Had I wanted to buy I would have from this guy who also shared information on the region and further afield.Very knowledgeable, he was even able to give us practical advice for our trip to Gibraltar.
Checking out of the hotel was as simple as the check in, flawless and quick.
Would I use the hotel again- yes. Would I visit the Costa region again-NO.

Room Tip: Room 302 overlooked a campsite that in fairness you could not see as trees hid the tents and caravan...
