“Wonderful stay once we got a good room!”

Gran Hotel Guadalpin Banus

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week as part of a package on lastminute.com with flight and hotel. I wanted to stay somewhere luxurious without bankrupting me! This was the ideal place. Cost: €829, 7 night s+ buffet breakfast included.

Our package included breakfast, which was an incredible spread of anything you could want and you could eat in the restaurant or outside by the beach under the sun. Late breakfasts meant you weren't really hungry until closer to dinner, which in town are relatively cheap compared to what you'd pay in Ireland, so the "free" breakfast really cut back on expenses.

Staff were incredibly happy to help, fantastic service and very friendly. My boyfriend's luggage was lost on the way over by the airline, and the hotel did everything they could to contact the right people and get the luggage sorted. A note was slipped under our door as the bags arrived in the middle of the night, so as not to wake us, which was thoughtful.

Only downside: there was a little trouble getting a good room.
We asked for a double room and I wrote an email the week before arrival confirming reservations. When we arrived, I was very disappointed to get a room on the ground floor with twin beds.
I immediately asked reception for another room which they did happily and right away. The second room was on the middle floor, double bed, gorgeous spacious room but with balcony view of the hotel next door. My boyfriend went to check the possibility of upgrading or trying another room as it was to be a special trip!
Staff once again complied happily and by the 3rd attempt we got a room on the top floor amidst the suites with a view of the ocean and the pool, gorgeous room, double bed. I was absolutely thrilled!!! I know it was a lot of effort for the staff, and picky on my part, but the room really did make for a dream holiday and we enjoyed a beautiful trip and fell asleep to the waves lapping up on shore every night since we kept our balcony doors open.

One strong recommendation I'd make:
if you're looking for a peaceful trip, avoid popular holiday times. We were leaving the day Easter holidays started, and already in that day the hotel filled up with loud drunks in their 20s (i'm only 27!) and screaming kids etc. Didn't look to be as peaceful and relaxing as our previous week there!

Overall, the hotel was a luxurious and friendly place to spend a week. Puerto Banus was fun to visit, but a bit small so one visit was enough for me. It was a great week overall.

Airport to Hotel transportation:
The hotel transfer costs were quite expensive (€91?). The airport offers transfer (£32/pp x 2 bags I think) but we took the good ol' bus. The buses are directly outside of luggage pickup. Bus #310 comes frequently (it was a Sunday and we only waited 30 mins?) and it's only €4.10 one way, it drops you off in Marbella and we took a cab from there to the hotel in Puerto Banus for €13 total? Fairly cheap. On the way home we just took the free hotel shuttle to the marbella airport and got the bus ticket in marbella back to Malaga airport. Easy, comfortable and cheap. Spend your money on a new pair of shoes! Save the transport costs.

Although a beautiful hotel our room was very small and quite dark. The sun never shone on our terrace although that did not bother us. The breakfast here is unbelievable, you really can have anything you want so go early and hungry!

“Lock away your valuables”

Although our stay here was good, it was marred by the fact that we had items removed from our room. We were told that we should have put them in the safe, which I accept up to a point, but the items taken were a camera charger and the card from our Tom Tom which we did not notice until we got home. The hotel were not terribly helpful when we emailed them. I take their point that perhaps we should have put the Tom Tom in the safe, although I always put everything out of sight in the case, but battery chargers ? So my advice is take care if you stay here!

Lovely hotel set overlooking beach about ten minutes walk to puerto banus. Staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Rooms are large and the marble bathrooms are huge.Luxury at its best.

“Babies First Holiday”

The Guadalpin Banus was recommended to me by a friend and I must agree that it is a lovely hotel. There are flaws here as everywhere but in all everyone is well catered for. This was our first holiday with our 4 month old baby and everyone from reception staff to waiters and porters could not have been nicer.

ROOMS - Contrasting thoughts here. Bathroom very well decorated and was very nice. Room itself was fine but do not be mislead by the panoramic view on the hotel website. It is nowhere near as big as it looks on there. Our double bed was 2 single beds pushed together which is a pain but you just have to get on with it. The balcony was simply stunning and easily the best thing about the room. It was lovely lying out there knowing it was January, sun shining and thinking of home in the UK where there were gale force winds and snow. Ahhh the thought!!!!!!!!

Breakfast in the hotel was OK although if I had paid the 15 euro daily price I would probably have been less than enthusiastic about it. Unless it is in your package price then I would probably recommend that you try somehere else.

SOFIA BAR - Was expensive but no point complaining about that as you should be willing to pay extra considering where you are. In saying that bar itself was pretty poor. We were there 5 days and they did not have mint for a mojito during our whole stay.

All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel but when we return next year we will more than likely stay in a villa which should not be deemed as detrimental to the hotel as it was lovely and definit3ely value for money. You will pay a lot more in other proerties and get a much less satisfactory stay than you would here.

One note of caution when booking this hotel is that I would recommend a car. You can park it on the street outside at no cost and it will save you taxi fares as you would need one to go anywhere. You are a 10 - 15 minute walk in Puerto Banus but it is very dark and probably not the best walk late at night after a few cocktails.
