My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week as part of a package on lastminute.com with flight and hotel. I wanted to stay somewhere luxurious without bankrupting me! This was the ideal place. Cost: €829, 7 night s+ buffet breakfast included.
Our package included breakfast, which was an incredible spread of anything you could want and you could eat in the restaurant or outside by the beach under the sun. Late breakfasts meant you weren't really hungry until closer to dinner, which in town are relatively cheap compared to what you'd pay in Ireland, so the "free" breakfast really cut back on expenses.
Staff were incredibly happy to help, fantastic service and very friendly. My boyfriend's luggage was lost on the way over by the airline, and the hotel did everything they could to contact the right people and get the luggage sorted. A note was slipped under our door as the bags arrived in the middle of the night, so as not to wake us, which was thoughtful.
Only downside: there was a little trouble getting a good room.
We asked for a double room and I wrote an email the week before arrival confirming reservations. When we arrived, I was very disappointed to get a room on the ground floor with twin beds.
I immediately asked reception for another room which they did happily and right away. The second room was on the middle floor, double bed, gorgeous spacious room but with balcony view of the hotel next door. My boyfriend went to check the possibility of upgrading or trying another room as it was to be a special trip!
Staff once again complied happily and by the 3rd attempt we got a room on the top floor amidst the suites with a view of the ocean and the pool, gorgeous room, double bed. I was absolutely thrilled!!! I know it was a lot of effort for the staff, and picky on my part, but the room really did make for a dream holiday and we enjoyed a beautiful trip and fell asleep to the waves lapping up on shore every night since we kept our balcony doors open.
One strong recommendation I'd make:
if you're looking for a peaceful trip, avoid popular holiday times. We were leaving the day Easter holidays started, and already in that day the hotel filled up with loud drunks in their 20s (i'm only 27!) and screaming kids etc. Didn't look to be as peaceful and relaxing as our previous week there!
Overall, the hotel was a luxurious and friendly place to spend a week. Puerto Banus was fun to visit, but a bit small so one visit was enough for me. It was a great week overall.
Airport to Hotel transportation:
The hotel transfer costs were quite expensive (€91?). The airport offers transfer (£32/pp x 2 bags I think) but we took the good ol' bus. The buses are directly outside of luggage pickup. Bus #310 comes frequently (it was a Sunday and we only waited 30 mins?) and it's only €4.10 one way, it drops you off in Marbella and we took a cab from there to the hotel in Puerto Banus for €13 total? Fairly cheap. On the way home we just took the free hotel shuttle to the marbella airport and got the bus ticket in marbella back to Malaga airport. Easy, comfortable and cheap. Spend your money on a new pair of shoes! Save the transport costs.
