“Got moved to another (apparently much better) apartment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

I literally just got back from a four day holiday in Marbella, Spain, and I was supposed to stay at Mediterraneo Apartmentos Marbella. I booked the stay via Thomas Cook Holidays UK (approx. £180 for 4 nights). As I had read a mix of both positive and negative comments about these apartments, I sent an email to the staff and asked to stay in one of the modern rooms, seaside view and preferably on one of the upper levels of the building (translated into spanish w the help of a friend)

When my gf and I arrived to the reception, we were told that our room was located about 300 metres down the shore, "at the same hotel", but in another building without a Reception. After a 5 min walk, slightly confused and bothered, we arrived to "Eden Roc II". An even better location, more modern building and with better surroundings just right next to the beach. My gf and I were shocked when we first saw the apartment. It was beautiful! IKEA-interior and fully fitted apartment with flatscreen tv, washing machine, dishwasher, fully fitted kitchen with all supplies, bath towels, iron and iron board, drinking glasses, EVERYTHING really. The flat was cleaned on our 2nd day; beds were made, towels were replaced with new ones and toilet tissue was stocked up.

I am not sure why we were placed at Eden Roc II instead of MAM, but it might be because of the email that I sent. The only cons about staying at Edec Roc II was the fact that there was no reception in the building. Could be useful for questions about the location, but most locals understand basic words like "supermarket" and can give brief directions in english on how to get around. There is no WiFi at Eden Roc II, but most cafees and restaurants offer free WiFi for their visitors so that is really not a major problem.

I managed to find a link to the actual apartment we stayed in (I have also attached some of the photos that I took):

We went to this hotel for my friends hen party and there rooms were okay not amazing but so much better than the room we were given. We got to our room and there was food smeared all over the walls in the 2 bedrooms. The room had not been cleaned . When i complained the told us to clean it when i asked to change rooms they said they didnt have any other room to put us in. We ended up having to pay our selves to stay some where else for the night. And they would norlt refund. The next day we complained again and they finally got a cleaner in. Shocking service and the room was disgusting

We booked last minute, and chose Mediterraneo based on it's location. The main plus point of these apartments was the location, 5min walk to the old town, right on the beach front, and close to all the restaurants.

We chose self catering to buy fresh fish from the mercadona to cook ourselfs, kitchen was pretty small to say the least. only room for 1 person to move - literally.

Beds were pretty hard, so my partner and I opted for the sofa bed half way through our 6 night stay, and found it was a little more comfy.

Bathroom was a little dirty and out dated, but served its purpose. good powerful showers.

I emailed the hotel beforehand to request a high floor , I would recommend doing this! the views from floor 14 were amazing.

***************************************************************
Worst part of the holiday -- As we had torrential rain for our last 3 days, on the morning of the first rainy day, from floor 14 you could see a brown bloom in the sea, when we went down to look, it turned out to be a sewage leak :/ toilet paper, cotton buds, sanitary pads, the lot. floating around in the sea and all in the sand. Being as the hotel doesnt have a swimming pool, this really affected our last 3 days. we had nowhere to swim :(

After talking to the locals, this sewage problem seems to be a regular problem when it rains heavily in marbella... slightly dissapointing for our first visit. We would return, but would choose somewhere with a pool, and would perhaps avoid the sea!

At £140 each for the week, we found this was quite expensive for the condition of the room (F14 R11)

Room Tip: High floor

We've just returned from our second visit to these apartments which was very successful. The actual apartment block is basic... no gardens, no swimming pool, no bar or restaurant. BUT.... it is in a great location, right next to the Dali steps, with the beach just across the promenade. restaurants just downstairs (if it was raining you wouldn't even get wet), and a very pleasant walk along the prom to lots of other eateries and bars. The beach in that area is one of the better bits, deep and sandy and the sea is very clean. The rooms that we've had have been very clean, both with good new bathrooms.Lifts and corridors very clean and well lit.Quiet at bedtimes. Kitchen a bit small and sparse for work areas, so if you really wanted to do a lot of cooking maybe not for you. But for breakfast and snacks workable. Both of the apartments we've had had washing machines too, which in this age of expensive luggage on the plane is very handy. If you are a regular to Marbella these apartments are fine. We shall be returning later in the summer.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor facing Gibraltar!

We stayed there for 3 nights and were happy with almost everything. We knew that the price wasn't huge, so we didn't expect a lot and were kind of surprised. A lot of people could complain that it was dated and the place could use with some new towels, etc. but overall we were very happy. Very nice view of the sea, lovely staff members and the best location for the price. I would recommend it to everyone who doesn't need to have marble floors to enjoy his holidays!

Room Tip: We were on the fourth floor in room number 5. You could see the sea and the nice little promenade/pa...

The hotel is ideal location for the beach and Marbella promenade. Amazing views of the beach from the balcony. It is desperate for a rennovation, the decor is very old fashioned. It was relatively clean. Reception staff were rude. If you want quick access to the beach and prom and don't mind too much about what the room looks like then it's ideal.
