My husband and I, plus another couple, rented a two bedroom, three bathroom apartment through Interval International Getaways. July 21-28 It was featured as a Premier Resort with state of the art convenient modern features. We had a choice of two styles of luxury apartments, garden or club. After booking I contacted the resort regarding my request for a club apartment on a high floor. After three attempts I was finally notified that Interval Getaway entitled me to only a garden apartment.
Our apartment was clean and spacious,(on the first floor) but quite run down. Definitely not the luxury apartment that we paid for. We had two bathrooms, no whirlpool. The air conditioner was so loud and on three nights, shut itself off. The shower in one bathroom was so small that the curtain stuck to you. The bathtub in the master had no grips left on the tub's floor, that every shower was an adventure in not slipping. All the beds were rock hard and when we asked for extra pillows and towels we were told no, because people steal them. I was willing to leave a deposit for an extra towel and pillow. No! The second bedroom had a closet, two night stands and one chair and two twin beds put together, with two sconces falling off the wall for lighting. The master bedroom had additional furniture, a desk. There were no phones, clocks or televisions in the bedrooms.
Living room had two couches that were from the 80's. Our phone worked occasionally and that worried me. In case of emergency we could not contact the main desk, forget about a wake up call to get to the airport.. The apartment had a motion alarm that we were told to use whenever we were out of the apartment, but there was no alarm to be used when you were in the apartment, especially at night. Since the phone was in the living room, away from the bedrooms, I was uncomfortable. I was very disappointed in the apartments "state of the art modern features". I probably could have stayed at Don Carlos, next door, cheaper and could have gotten my extra towels. I have spoken to Interval to tell them of their false advertising..they really don't give a hoot!
After getting over the fact that we paid top dollar for a very rundown apartment, we enjoyed the rest of our stay.
Club Alanda is in a nice location. You can walk to two supermarkets over the bridge.(A-7) The only problem with the supermarkets was they did not have size small of anything, so pack a few coffee filters, salt, pepper, and sugar to go. There is a great Chinese restaurant there and some bars and shops. Right opposite the entrance to the Club is a deli and two more restaurants. The Club House has a restaurant, La Despense, that is open for B/L/D and has some entertainment most nights during dining outside. We took the breakfast package for the week. Usually we cook, but at 7.50 euros why dirty the pots and pans. Some nights we took a taxi to restaurants, fare was reasonable and no trouble getting a taxi to take you back. Just say next to Don Carlos Hotel.
The grounds are kept very clean and the pools very nice. Since we were in the garden area, our large balcony was used quite a bit. We had trees and flowers giving us shade and a beautiful breeze. We ate lunch outside every day. The kitchen is fully equipped.
Had a lot of laughs trying to used the very small washer/dryer combo with instructions in Spanish.
Beach is a block away. Your can rent chairs and umbrellas for the day. Sea was so cold ! Two nice restaurants at the beach.
Staff at front desk was friendly. They suggested restaurants and called taxis for us. You don't have to speak Spanish, they all spoke English. The same maintenance man who fixes the pool filters, also fixes phones, air conditioners, resets alarm systems, installs new hair dryers and helps you figure out how to use the washer/dryer. Really nice guy. We prearranged our airport transportation to and from on the Alanda site before we left.
The apartment deserves a 1, but the rest of the resort a 4! I would not recommend this resortl to a friend unless there was a major renovation in apartments. I will also never book a getaway with Interval International again!
