May 28th 2009. A return visitor

The hotel was bought by a Russian in Dec 08. Approx 100 staf were sacked and the remaining ones have not been/ or have had one or two months pay,. att lower rates. Many have been working here for 35 plus years. Each day approx 50 protest outside with drums and horns. The owner visits from Moscow maybe i or 2 days a months and refuses to talk to them. The sfaff are in a catch 22. What can they do ? All they get is complaint , and they can do nothing.
Note the only positive hotel review was from a Russian.
The majority of guests are supportive , but who wants to pay full price for less than 5 star ? Don't arrive having come through an agent , because you have no power to bargain. and no chance of going elsewhere. The money has gone, and the staff are powerless. Expect to pay top Euro for everything irrespective of choice. There are a few new substitute staff , clearly at cheap wages , and not trained. Also "stuck" in the middle of a revamp ; unfinished and surrounded with pallets of tiles

We recently stayed at this hotel for a wedding held at the beach club.
There is no denying that the Beach Club is in a superb location but the entire place itself is a very average 4 star.
When we arrived after the ceremony we were greeted by ex-staff members on strike and were concerned for the safety of the bride on entering. The police were eventually called - Not the ideal start to any celebration.
Service during the meal was poor. Toilets were kept in bad shape all evening. Those guests leaving the venue were left to their own devices and staff almost went out of their way to be difficult. The staff in general were dismissive, vacant and deeply unhelpful - such bad service i have yet to encounter elsewhere in my many years of travelling for both business and pleasure.
A very unpleasant experience all round. Such was the lasting bad feeling, i felt i had no option but to warn others in this review. Certainly it's a nice location but that's about all.
As for the wedding though, a roaring success!

I found Los Monteros to be a fraud..........
La Cabane looks good..........Reception looks good............Pool looks good
BUT Service terrible...........spanish staff rude and arrogant..........rooms smelly and have seen better days............food amateurish..
All in all a huge disappointment and really terrible value for money
Fellow travellers...........DO NOT BE FOOLED BY INITIAL APPEARANCES

It was a real nice trip! Excellent food and service! Live music in Azul Bar!
If during a cruise on the yacht you want to enjoy yourself in a good company, they can send a launch which will take you to the Beach Club. And if you decide to spend an unforgettable evening in a romantic privacy, the professional staff of the hotel will organize a magnificent lunch or dinner by candlelight on your board.
