“Pleasantly surprised”

We booked a somewhat last minute week in Marbella and weren't left with a great deal of hotel choices so we thought we would give Los Monteros a chance based on previous reviews. We were pleasantly surprised. The service and buffet breakfast were exceptional. The hotel is a short stroll from the local beach and has a beach club there. It is also well equipped with its own facilities and we enjoyed a day by the pool. The rooms are comfortable and are being updated. We did hear some renovation noise but nothing too loud to disturb us. Its the kind of hotel that once you discover it you keep going back.

Room Tip: The hotel provides on site parking.

Stayed at this hotel for a small business conference.

The place may have been a top spot in the 70’s and 80’s but even though the rooms have been renovated since then the overall impression is that this hotel is dying.

The drain smelled awful in my room and even though I asked them to do something about it – the smell never went away.

The restaurant was once (many years ago) a top restaurant. Now it is a very traditional hotel restaurant – however food tasted fine.

Internet worked terrible (when it worked!!)

Just come back from a 4 night break with 2 children & my parents, we booked through Expedia as it was the best deal online, we got Mirador rooms 102, 103 & 104 - the rooms were good, but the air con made the rooms smell like sewers.
My parents complained and were offered an upgrade and got a lovely room over by the Spa - so will definitely ask for a room over there in the future.
The hotel itself is traditional with a touch of glamour and perfectly clean. Most of the staff I spoke to were Spanish, happy, very helpful & made us all feel very welcome.
The pool is great and the poolside service is wonderful with crisps and olives coming with every drink!
La Cabane beach club is a fab experience, and delivery by golf buggy is a nice touch - we loved it there!
The one downside at the hotel is the restaurant, we discovered it has 2 different names, one at lunch and one at dinner - so two different menus but its not clear at all - we chose to eat there on our last evening and the food was appalling, the chef is supposed to have 2 michelin stars but our meals suggested otherwise - 4 chips with a slab of steak which definitely was not sirloin! Anyway our waiter could see we weren't happy by our 3/4 full plates and our bill was reduced accordingly.
It was a busy nite in the restaurant but we could have got better food down at the chiringuito on the beach - a real shame that a hotel of this stature doesn't have a better place to eat - in fact we would have loved to eat at La Cabane most of all in the evening - now thats a lovely menu with an even better view!!
Breakfast was great - champers is a must!
We will definitely return to Los Monteros but we will get a better room and we will eat out!

Room Tip: Ask for a room by the spa! Dont go for Mirador Suites!

We organized a last minute 4 day break to the lovely Los monteros and we were very pleased. It was mid May and still quiet which suited us fine. The weather was fabulous. The staff were very helpful. We arrived before the rooms were ready so were offered a room to change then our luggage was taken away. After lunch and a relax by the pool, we were taken to our lovely junior suites that backed on to gardens. Spacious room, spacious bathroom with toiletries and walk in shower and a spacious balcony with steps to the garden. When we wanted to go into Marbella old town for dinner, a taxi was ordered by the concierge and arrived promptly.
After sleeping on pillows made of soft cloud and marshmallow we had a lovely buffet style breakfast, and because there was some building work being finished off around the pool we decided to try the hotel beach club. We were taken the five minute journey in a golf buggy and arrived in paradise, greeted by smiling and pleasant young ladies. The La Cabanna beach club is overlooking the beach with a beautiful pool, surrounded by elegant beds and drapes of white muslin and heavy cotton towels, total luxury.
The menu is a little pricey so we decided to have a liquid lunch of bucks fizz instead! It was a well earned break, the proactive manager and staff made it an enjojable experience and we will be booking again for next year!

Firstly, the staff were lovely. The good was quite nice and restaurant service very good. It was clean.
There was, however, a touch of Fawlty Towers about it. We got a deal and then lo and behold when we arrived we discovered there were noisy building works going on next door and that the hotel backs onto a dual carriageway. I had to remind them to clean the room before five pm, stock the mini bar after two days Etc.
It wasn't bad and overall the stay was pleasant but I'm just not sure it warrants the five stars. A view of the highway alongside building works and noisy neighbours does not a five star experience make!

I chose this hotel based on pictures and advertising on website. What a disappointment. Not told about building works, our room faces the building site. Said there was fitness centre, no just a tiny area next to spa with one bike. You have to pay for beds at beach club. Noise everywhere, tired and expensive. Little around in terms of shopping or night life. Nice spa but that's about it. Should not be advertising themselves as 5 star.

Just spent some time in Los Monteros. Gorgeous surroundings!! Wonderful old world charm, staff superb and so helpful!! We had a beautiful spacious room near spa. Unfortunately, there is construction going on some days as early as 8am on property everyday except Sunday right by the pool!! Management allowed us an extra 2 day pass to La Cabane due to the noise and said construction would be done by June... Hope so! I understand the need for construction and refurbishment, however, they should've provided an explanation prior to booking or offer bigger discounts! From now on I will always ask if there will be construction near or on premises before I book another 5 star!!
Because they did not disclose info about the construction, I can only give 3 stars where they easily deserve a 5 for everything else!!
