“Brilliant for a family holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2009

We stayed in a two bed apartment for five nights.....

This is a great place to take a break with a young family. You have the benefits of self-catering and you can get pretty decent take-away type food or more classy options.

The whole complex is very clean and you can get pretty much anything you need.

The pools are really nice (with a separate adults only one) - our four year old just wanted to play in them all day. The adjacent beach is good fun too (though it is public) with restaurants nearby.

The resort is about 30 mins by car from Malaga airport and though we had a hire car, you could probably do taxis and hire a car from the resort if you needed it.

Not much more to say that hasn't already been said (UK TV, very pleasant staff, nice poolside bars, good facilities in apartments, good supermarkets in Elviria nearby)...If you want gourmet food, just get a taxi into Marbella.

Would definitely go again.

Just for they confy bed I would like to go back again.
My husband, 2 Friends and me whent they on an introduction week end.
The flat they gave us was great (Home from Home), the resort had great amenities.
If I wanted a resort holiday again I will probably go back. As if you just want a chill out hollliday in the sun this is a great place, But if you want a bit more, you definitly want to rent a car (Free safe car park in the resort) to go out and about and whats the point to have all this aminities if you are not going to use it.

This was our 10th visit and I have to say the recent enhancements and service just make this resort better each year.
I have reviewed this property previously so will just highlight the changes.
The Chill bar has expanded and now includes some chill beds which can be rented daily.
New childrens pool in the family area with lots of attractions for young children - we didn't use it but it looked good.
Activities / entertainment - much wider range of activities when we were there, it was UK half term.
Beach has been improved from last year
A few new restaurants opened in the Elvira commercial centre.

Service was as good as always with the resort manager very visible around the resort .

The Marriott Beach Resort is at Elviria, about 6 miles east of Marbella towards Malaga in the ribbon development between the main coastal dual carriageway (the N340, or A7, autovia del mediterraneo) and the sea.

We were lucky enough to find a timeshare swap for the two bedroom, two bathroom unit we stayed in, but we believe you can also book direct or through an agent. We were quite amazed to find the separate apartment blocks share underground garages so you go up to your apartment from your car in a lift – is this really Spain? It was a lovely, quality apartment, which felt good as soon as we walked through the door. There is no point in describing the light and airy, good size rooms with quality fixtures and fittings – you’ll get a better feel for the place by having a look at the uploaded photos. This was the first apartment we have ever stayed in that has its own separate laundry room, which we reckon must be a boon for families.

Like most places, you can find odd things that are not quite to your liking, but we don’t think there is much wrong with the Beach Resort. Given the price of electronic equipment nowadays, we thought why not change the old tube TV’s to flat screen models? Maybe it’s because they’d have to change 3, yes there were 3 TV’s in the apartment, plus there are DVD and video players. For us Brits, it was great to have TV in Spain with a selection of normal UK entertainment channels if we wanted to vegetate before bed, instead of the usual (and presumably free) BBC World and CNN channels. We also thought it would have been nicer for there to have been more separation of the ensuite bathroom from the master bedroom, instead of having a wide arch opening, (thankfully, the toilet was separate and had its own door). The main bathroom had a separate bath with a really amazing shower, which we used in preference to our ensuite over bath shower, until friends joined us later in the week.

The public areas and extensive gardens are very nice and well tended and the outdoor and indoor pools were good, even if the outdoor pool was “chilly” to say the least in November. There is also a spa, which we didn’t use. For us bargain hunters, the pool bar has “happy hour” periods, which helps the Euros go further.

If you choose to stay at the Marriott Beach Resort you need to be aware that it is not in a holiday resort as such – the front of the complex does go right down to a beach, but the area is mainly residential or timeshare apartments and unlike lots of Spanish holiday resorts and towns, it doesn’t have a promenade walkway above the beach that you can stroll along. There are a few beach chiringuitos close by, which are quite nice, but you either have to cross the sand to get to them (in the dark at night not so good) otherwise, it’s quite a lengthy circuitous walk by road. There is an upmarket restaurant on site, but we were not very impressed given the price and it has a disappointingly limited menu. You can get “junk food” hamburgers, paninis and pizzas in the bar-restaurant above reception at more reasonable prices, but we didn’t use that one. There is also the usual on site shop close to reception, which was handy for extras.

Given its location, we think you really do need a car to get to the Beach Resort and to make the best of the area, but then it comes into its own as a great base for exploring the Costa del Sol west of Malaga. It doesn’t take too long to get to Malaga itself, an elegant traditional Spanish City, or to places such as Ronda, Gibraltar and Mijas, as well as all the Costa holiday resorts that get so busy in summer, which are really nice and relaxed in the warm winter sunshine.

If you don’t have a car, you can still walk to the Elviria shopping complex on the north side of the dual carriageway in about 15 minutes. There are a number of reasonably priced restaurants here as well as a large well stocked supermarket, but you’d be hard pressed to shop at Elviria without that car, unless you take one of the waiting cabs that seem to be plentiful. The walk back from Elviria at night can be a bit dark and spooky in places, so bring a small torch for safety. We came across an absolutely wonderful restaurant in the small centro commercial before you cross the bridge over the road. It’s called Restaurant Elviria, (not very original we know). It’s not the cheapest around, but we thought it was well worth the extra. As a meat eater I think that I had the best steak I have ever had in my life, the fish choice was impressive, and the crepe suzettes were to die for.

Marriott Beach Resort is sheer quality accommodation. There is a sister Andaluza resort west of Marbella, which looks to be similar in design and in the same type of location. Whichever one we book, we will be back.

I spent the December holidays in Marbella at the Marriott hotel. While the hotel is a beach resort, due the time of year that we went, the beach was out of the question for us. (Our fellow English guests, however, had no problem tanning and using the pool in the crisp air!) The grounds and pools are immaculate, however, and we would love to return during the warmer months in order to enjoy the warm weather amenities.

We rented a car for the duration of our stay; our gps turned out to be worth the extra money, and was extremely accurate. Hotel parking is heinous as the parking spaces in the hotel's underground parking garage are very small. We ended up renting a compact car, and we were initially disappointed in not getting a larger vehicle. Our disappointment turned out to be a blessing in disguise as most of the parking garages had small lanes and tight parking spaces.

The Marriott resort itself is beautifully kept. We had a 2-bedroom apartment that was extremely spacious. The apartment was well kept, and felt new. The only drawback of the apartment is that the majority of the bathroom is not seperated by a wall from the master bedroom. (The commode is in a seperate room.) As such, if one person is showering or using the sink, the other occupant of the bedroom is disturbed.

The living room was a nice size with a sofa and love seat, and equipped with a DVD player. The dining area was also fairly large, and the kitchen was fully functional. The Nescafe capsule coffee maker was a welcome touch, and the on-sight grocery store sold many different flavors of coffee. In fact, the on-sight grocery sold an extensive array of products, including freshly baked breads. For more extensive grocery shopping, there is a full-sized grocery store about 5 minutes drive from the hotel, as well as an all-night convenience store also about a 5 minute drive from the hotel in the opposite direction.

The bar/lounge of the hotel serves typical bar food such as pizza, chicken wings, burgers, etc., and is available for take-out orders. The service was convenient as some evenings we did not feel like leaving the hotel for dinner after being out all day. The food was average. The on-site restaurant also served an array of foods; again, we felt the food was average.

The Marriott was an excellent base for exploring the region. Unfortunately, our costa del sol visit was a visit to the costa del rain as it rained 8 out of the 10 days we were there. The 2 sunny days were gorgeous, and the beauty of the region really showed. From Marbella, we easily drove to Ronda, Granada, Mijas, Nerja, Gibraltar, and other locations within a 2- hour driving distance. We also took a tour to Tangiers through the Marriott's concierge. It was very easy to access routes to these destinations from Marbella, and each day we returned to the Marriott, it felt as if we were coming home as we had a fully equipped apartment in which to relax versus a simple hotel room.

Service at the hotel was outstanding, and people were extremely friendly. Although I speak some Spanish, most employees spoke excellent English. The grounds felt safe, and strolling the gardens was a pleasure.

I enjoyed my visit, and would not hesitate to return to the area. The winter months are off-season for the area, and many nearby restaurants were closed. I would probably choose to return in either the fall or spring months - I hear summer is crazy!

i stayed here with my parents and their friends (also a couple). my parents are time share owners at a southern ca property and exchanged for this one. we had a great room - 2 bedroom with a kitchen and living/dining room area. we had a partial ocean view and overlooked the pool area. it was a very nice view in my opinion. we ate at the restaurant there maybe once or twice - not b/c it was good or bad, but b/c we ate breakfast in our own kitchen (the fresh croissants & french bread from the market were so good!). there is also a restaurant nearby on the beach - maybe a 2 minute walk which was very good and we ate there a couple of times.

we were able to do a lot of amazing day trips from the hotel so it was quite convenient for that aspect. we went to ronda, gibralter, morocco, and saw the alhambra. we almost always had lunch during the day while we were out and about.

it was a fabulous experience and i would definitely recommend this resort and i would stay there again!
