“Had a great time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2009

We just returned from Spain. We are Marriott owners and have visited vacation clubs in numerous locations. We thoroughly enjoyed this destination and would return. The grounds were lovely and well kept. Our villas were large and well appointed.

We were not so thrilled with the topless beach, however, and would warn those visitors with young children or teens.

The people at the resort were friendly and helpful. Some went out of their way to make our stay as good as possible.

We went on a private tour to Tangier with Said Tours. This tour was amazing! It was definitely worth doing. There were just 6 of us on the tour. Said takes very good care of his clients and knows everyone. We had lunch in a terrific place that served traditional Morrocan cuisine. We visited the Cave of Hercules, rode camels, toured the countryside in a minivan. I would highly recommend Said. saidtours.com

We also went to Gibraltar, saw the monkeys and St. MIchael's cave. We did not take the taxi tour. I would recommend doing this, since we had to wait 90 minutes in line to ride the cable car. We also traveled to Granada, Ronda, Seville, Marbella, and Mijas. We enjoyed all of them.

In MIjas we ate at a fabulous restuarant called El Capricho. It is just off a main street in Mijas. The food was extraordinary. I would highly recommend it.

We loved our visit to Spain and the Marbella Vacation Club and intend to return in the future.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2009

We stayed at the Marriott Marbella Beach Resort for a week in May and loved it. We had a two-bedroom apartment with marble floors. Waking up in the morning and having coffee on the nice sunny terrace, breathing in the fresh air while looking at the beautifully designed lush gardens and glancing at the Mediterranean Sea was fantastic.
There was never a dull moment. Between spending time on the beach and by the pools and going on day trips, we hardly ever turned on the TV and never used the DVD player and stereo. The weather was fantastic, and we were actually able to swim in the sea as well. The pools are great – two indoors and two outdoors – though you needed a bit of time to get your body adjusted to the temperature to the outside ones. The Jacuzzis were great too, except for the temperature of the water which was set too low (~ 34°C) and could not be raised due to – according to Marriott’s posted explanation - Spanish law restrictions! They were enjoyable, but after sitting in them for a while they seemed cold. Staff was very friendly and the front desk attentive and helpful. We were also assigned a personal contact that delivered a welcome package and explained the attractions in the area.
The gardeners trimmed the bushes and grass every morning, which was sometimes quite noisy. There is a security guard on site, patrolling day and night.
Maids came in every day to make the beds and take out the trash. The beds were comfortable, soft and with lots of pillows. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans, cutlery, glasses and cups. There is also a cappuccino machine that we liked. You get two complimentary tablets for the dishwasher but if you want to wash the dishes by hand, you need your own detergent. We found one at the convenience store for about 3 EU and left in the suite when we left.
Internet is available in the villas for a whopping 9.95 EU/day (but be careful about being double-charged) or for 0.5 EU/5 minutes at the business center.
Finding the resort for the first time may be tricky but the instructions given on the website are the best you can get, I suppose. Just read them carefully and try to follow them – which is not easy while you are driving into the unknown on the Spanish roads. There is a convenience store by the front desk which carries pretty much everything you need for a week, though it is quite pricey for certain items. The alternative is going to a near-by grocery store, there are several in the area, a couple within walking distance. There is a strip mall not too far away (over the A7 bridge) but a car is handy. You can find in the strip mall supermercados (supermarkets), travel agencies, plenty of restaurants, and lots more. Within 5 minutes driving towards Malaga there is a pharmacy open 24 hours.
You can have burgers at the resort (~ 10 EU each with fries) and there`s also a nice restaurant overlooking the sea (El Med). There is live music played in the evening at the Chill bar. If you want to wander away from the resort, there are restaurants on the beach. Carlos y Paula's is very nice, located on the edge of the sea, very cosy and intimate.
There is a secure exit to the beach (you need your room card to get back into the resort) but the chairs and the umbrellas are not free. A daily fee applies.
The resort has an excellent location for day trips. Portugal, Gibraltar, Tangier, Granada, Ronda, Sevilla are close-by. There is such a diversity of culture, history, traditions at your fingertips.
All in all, we had a wonderful memorable stay and would gladly go back.

This hotel is absolutly stunning.
We went to this resort for 3 nights on timeshare but unfortunatly we didnt buy.

I have never seen such a lovely hotel.
The grounds are beutiful, the apartments are very nice and the staff are very friendly .
i would definatly recomend this place for everyone.

There is only one small problem and that is that the resort is quit hard to fined, but when you get there it is worth the driving.

If you are not staying bed and breakfast, i would recomend the DE JA VU resturant which is just across the road from the resort.

My family of 7 (2 adults, 5 kids from 13 yrs to 9 months) stayed between 11-15 May 09. This trip was during the "off-season" so the beach/pool waters weren't quite as warm as they could have been. There is a very nice family pool that is heated, and we seemed to spend most of our time there. We had a 3 bedroom apartment that was awesome. My only complaints with the hotel (as with all the Marriott Vacation Club resorts), are the nickel-and-diming for the little things, such as having to buy extra coffee/pay for sun beds/extremely expensive on-site market, expensive internet connection, etc.,. and there is no room service! You can pre-order and then pick-up, but that defeats the purpose. There is a nice supermarket (Supermercado) right down the street, and recommend getting groceries there. Some other items of note:
- Stay away from Funny Beach...other than the go-karts (which are expensive) it's a complete rip-off
- Don't buy souvenirs at Punta Banus...the old town of Marbella is a much nicer place to shop and far less expensive
- There is a great outlet mall near the airport (forget the name, but it has a big Nike store on the far end)...excellent food and good prices....great arcade/bowling/darts/billiard area

This is a Timeshare property which we booked for a holiday not to look at Timeshare . However we were visited in the apartment by a very nice representative with a bottle of wine and asked which showround we would like to attend. We told her we weren't interested and she wished us a good holiday. We didn't hear anything further. Having said that the whole visit was a complete pleasure. The apartments are first class with freash towels, pool towels and hairdryers provided. The grounds are extremely well kept and the facilities are all you could ask for. There were quiet pools for adults only and pools and playgrounds for the kids well away from the quiet places. This resort is very safe for children, but having said that we were never bothered by any children and almost never heard any! There is a takeaway menu for the Sports Bar in your apartment and a short telephone call and a 10 minute wait for us to collect a delicious dinner!. There was a voucher for a free DVD rental in our room and a good selection to choose from. The supermarket has fresh baguettes up to 9pm at night along with anything else you might require however it is a little more expensive than the supermarkets which are only a 5 minute or 10 minute walk away. All in all a very pleasant experience and one I would not hesitate to recommend to friends & family alike.

We visited Marriott's Marbella Beach Resort in February. We stayed for a week. It was a great time to visit because we had the resort almost to ourselves.

The suite was completely family friendly with a full kitchen and laundry. Local grocery/markets made it easy to cook for the kids, and fresh bakery, fairly priced, was available every morning at the resort market. The suite was clean and newly renovated, w/ comfy beds w/ many pillow choices. We had complete control of the temperature, which was great as our days varied from cool and cloudy to sunny and warm.

We used the resort as a base for day trips to Ronda and Seville, but the kids simply liked the kids daily activities and the beach. It was a bit cold for swimming, but we are from Michigan so the temps were actually still warm for us. We were able to relax.

The main restaurant was going through a few hiccups, and at the time it was not worthy of the resort. However, the restaurant staff really tried to make it up to us when they messed up. They had just reopened the day we arrived and had to reclose four days later, so we forgave the situation given they recognized the situation. There was a more casual pizza/hamburger bar, but we never went there.

We used our Marriott rewards points, so I cannot say whether its rates are a good value, but from what I have seen published it is reaonably priced.
