“Fantastic weeekend!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2011

Just got back from weekend away with girl friends to celebrate my birthday. The hotel was clean and tidy and the staff were all very helpful. They upgraded my room to sea view cos it was my birthday and complimentary bottle of champagne was in the room saturday night on return , it was a lovely gesture and greatfully drunk. Sonia the receptionist was lovely and very helpful. She recommended a restaurant called zo zoi on friday night a typical spanish place smalland quaint lovely food, then on saturday she arranged for us to go to the casino in puerto banus ,,it was great experience and we WON! We had a great time in the spa (this is in the miramar hotel a few doors away) its well worth a visit and very reasonable. would definately go back, made to feel very welcome thank for a fantastic and memorable birthday

Really enjoyed our short stay. Staff were lovely and very efficient. Our room was big and we had a balcony with a sea view. Only problem was the q for breakfast -as we were there in the off season, I can only imagine what the waiting time might be during the high season! if you are using the spa make sure to give yourself extra time to get there as spa is located in a sister hotel about a 5/7 min walk. Overall this is a great hotel and we look forward to our next visit.

Just about to head home after one week on the El Fuerte Marbella hotel.

We travel 5-6 times a year and this is our first trip to costa del sol.

Marbella is really easy to access by local bus - just outside the arrival hall of Malaga airport there's a bus directly to Marbella - a 50 minute trip - and from there on, a short taxi to El Fuerte.

I found a real bargin on this stay on booking.com - round 450 euro for 7 days including breakfast - i think its under half price. We got a warm welcome at the reception - the lady at the desk was very helpfull and gave us some quick tips about the city.
I read in these reviews that the seaview was a must-have, so we desides to upgrade our room right away. We got a beautifull room on 5 floor with full seaview and large bathroom with everything you need - 20 euro extra a day - money well spent! You can see the rooms first hand before deciding.

There is free wifi everywhere on the hotel with good coverage - about 3 mbit - Good enough for relaxing with my iPad :-)

Close to the seafront with lots of restaurants and bars - its about 7 km long - also perfect for a morning run. Old Town walking distance away and very cosy.
Medium supermarket (opencor) just next door.

Breakfast in the restaurant was 5 star - huge buffet with *everything* you could possibly want - even champagne. Love the "egg-station". Very polite og serviceminded waiters. One day the hotel manager herself was there, greating the guests.
We only ate here for breakfast - found the evening buffet a bit to expensive - if reserved before 7 pm, its 21 euro pr. person.

Weather in marbella this time a year was better than expected - the weather forecast was 15 to 18 degrees, but sitting in the sun feelt more like 20-25 degrees - lots of sun everyday :-)

There's an exellent fitnesscenter in the "basement" of El Fuerte - the main reason I choose this hotel - and its free for guests.
Well equipped with mostly Technogym equipment, the "Club Fuerte Sport" is the best hotel fitness I've seen. Open until 11 pm theres no excuse to skip training.
They even have lots of classes, bodypump, spinning and so on - around 40 pr week - very nice.
Many locals use this center and its well visited - good sign.
In front of the gym, leading to the seafront, there's a large cafe with healthy food and fresh juice - you can too enjoy a pizza and draft beer after those late night training hours :-)

Parking in this city must be a nightmare - cars everywhere! Only downside on this hotel is the parking prices - they will charge you 12 euro - pr day! - using the hotel parking lot - way too crazy. So we skipped renting a car.

This is truely a wonderfull hotel and we will probably come back again next year for our winter holiday.

Ps. I strongly recommend taking to local bus to La Linea and visit Gibraltar - that place is Amazing!

We stayed in this hotel over the weekend and everything was excellent. . The room was of an excellent standard, very clean and very modern, with a partial sea view and terrace. We did not expect this, as we paid a much lower rate for the room.

We have stayed in a range of various hotels throughout Spain and this hotel is the best Spanish hotel that we have ever stayed in. Customer service was superb, the location was perfect, walking distance from the beach and the lovely old town, the breakfast was the best we have experienced at any hotel, a giant spread with everything from a cooked breakfast to fruit and chocolate churros, spanish style. Highly recommend the freshly squeezed Orange juice.

The grounds are lovely. We would definitely stay again. If you are looking for a proper Spanish experience, look no further.

Just arrived back having stayed here for one week bed & breakfast - everything was exceptional. I have stayed at many hotels over the world and this one tops them all. I would not hesitate to go back or recommend it to anyone. Staff - they could not be more helpful and were all so pleasant. Location - a stone's throw from the beach and a couple of minutes walk to the adorable old town. Food - the breakfast was international and simply exceptional - covered all tastes. Hotel - so many lovely touches with champagne reception and free champagne available at breakfast.

We have just returned from a short break at the El Fuerte and have no hesitation in recommending it to others. We got a special 'off-season' deal far below rack rate which made it even better!

Efficient and friendly reception had us speedily checked in and on our way to our room. Yes, the decor is old-world Spain with dark wood everywhere but what's the harm in that. If we wanted a 'formula' soul-less modern hotel we would have gone elsewhere - but we wanted style with old-world friendly charm and comfort and El Fuerte has it in abundance.

Our room was comfortable, clean and had all the friendly extras, even down to a comb and bath sponge, and the only reason it got a 4 not a 5 was the somewhat erratic shower. Getting it to the right temperature and getting it to stay there was an art I never quite managed to acquire. Not that there was a shortage of hot water, in fact sometimes quite the reverse!

Reviewing the El Fuerte without mentioning the staff would be unjust. It seemed as if every one of them went out of their way to greet you personally and make you feel welcome. And I don't just mean the professional 'welcomers' such as reception, I mean everyone. Even the maid shouted a cheery 'buenas dias' from within the room she was cleaning as we passed by.

As for that breakfast. If anyone leaves hungry they only have themselves to blame. A wonderful choice of fresh fruits, cold meats, buck's fizz, fried breakfast (sausages, bacon, fried and scrambled eggs, beans and so on), boiled eggs, omelettes cooked to order, waffles, yogurts, various breads and cakes - the list goes on. Very attentive and friendly staff. Superb.

Next time we're in Marbella, I know where we'll be staying.

this is a 4 star hotel and doesnt disappoint. It is a big hotel but the friendliness of the staff make it feel that its a small family hotel. The front of house gave us a warm welcome and a complmentry drink while our reservation was sorted out. The staff in the bar and resturant were extremely friendly and spoke excellent English but will speak to you in Spanish if you like to practise your Spanish
The bedroom was big and spacious, we paid a really cheap price but were give a room with a part sea view. Our beds were 2 large singles pushed together. The bathroom was bigger than usual. There were tea and coffee facilities in the room which seems to be unusual in Spain. Our Kettle was broken and quickly replaced. There is a mini bar and not expensive 1.50 euros for a coke. The hotel bar wasnt too expensive either.
Breakfast was included in the bargain price (again unusual for Spain,) but it was a magnificant spread, cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurts, meat cheese, cooked breakfast, pasties and choices of bread oh and Cava if you fancy a glass for breakfast.
The hotel is close to the old town and a short bus ride from La Canada shopping mall
( just over 1 euro on the bus)
there is 2 swimming pools but the beach is down the steps and over the promenade
We have been living in Gibraltar for 8 months and have explored the area, this has to be one of the nicest hotels we have stayed in, and cant wait to go back
