“Great all round family hotel”

At last a hotel where you don't have to wake up at 7am to secure a sun bed!!! Thank you don Carlos for a very relaxing and special stay for my family. We travelled with two 17 year olds and a 5 year old and the hotel was great for all ages. My son spent most of his time in and out of the kids club or jumping around the pool whilst my teenage daughters enjoyed the beach club and of course our neighbours Nikki beach! Food was very good and great variety. Loved that breakfast stayed open til 11am so we enjoyed relaxing mornings rather than the usual rush. If you want to explore more of the area you do need a car as taxis are expensive. Plenty to do around the hotel at night but it can be quite pricey for their gala nights. We will definitely be back again.

Think I pretty much agree with all previous reviews about the poor condition of this hotel for 5 stars. The poolside areas at main hotel particularly grim and trying to get a drink or a meal here was a challenge. The pizza incidentally we did finally get was inedible! The reason I write this review though and that I would return to the hotel is particularly for the kid's club. Genuinely enthusiastic team members who made my daughter feel really special. There was lots of different activities too on a daily basis and very well run to let us know what was going on where and when. We went in July and were pleased there was a good few English speaking children at the club so my daughter had company. We were also pleased we had booked a deluxe sea view room as although not exactly deluxe it was quiet and at least had a balcony. We spoke to 3 other couples who had initially booked basic rooms and had needed to upgrade on arrival as they were unhappy with them. Generally the hotel staff aimed to please, infact in some areas service it was really good, but as mentioned, very poor at poolside. Nobody coming round taking orders and when you did actually go up to the bar, this involved standing dripping wet for about 10 minutes whilst about 3 employees behind the bar didn't look near you!!
Seems the beach club has better service, but obviously at a price! We went to the Disney evening too where the service and food was terrible. Nobody seemed to know what was going on with the barbeque, food laying around going cold and again the kid's food was inedible. Great show though, the children loved it but not worth the 49 euro charge for adults and 25 for kids.
Overall despite these complains. would return to this hotel for the kid's club alone but certain areas could be improved.

It was 1987 when my wfe and I last stayed at the Don Carlos. We should have returned sooner.
It is a fine beachside hotel which has seen some subtle makeovers but otherwise little change over the years. One major change though is the addition of the beach club which is a bit like Marmite;you either love it or hate it. It was quite noisy,largely patronised by non residents and more suited to young families.It was not for us.
The main hotel, however,is large and airy with a relaxed feel to it. The poolside restaurant is excellent,serving light meals and drinks from 1300 to 2000 at quite reasonable prices.Evening meals may be taken al fresco in summer months with a choice of two restaurants.
The Terrasse bar is open from 1900 to 0400 with some form of professional entertainment from 2245 most evenings. The standard in the main was quite high.
We have resolved not to wait another 26 years and indeed have just today arranged a return visit in September.

Myself & my partner got back from Don Carlos only yesterday, and although I'm usually one to read reviews instead of writing them, I kind of felt like I had to put my feelings out there as I was quite disappointed with our experience.

We go on holiday once a year and save throughout the year to ensure we can stay in a luxurious resort for a whole week and not have no worries or stresses. We feel we did not get this :-(

On arrival, the reception area looks stunning and huge, which gets you excited! We checked in, and to be fair cannot fault the reception staff for their enthusiasm and welcome, then the money goes through and it's downhill from there! We were led to our room (the first one) and when we went in it was two single beds pushed together... I'd booked a double and asked the porter who reassured me that this was a double. I left it at that and we set about the rest of our day. Wheb we were getting ready to go out we had workmen knocking at our door wanting to come in and change lightbulbs, then the cleaner knocked to clean the room.. we hadnt even slept in it yet! When we got into bed later that night, every couple of minutes we could hear banging from the lift going up and down and this kept us awake. Finally got to sleep only to be woken up at 2.30am by water dripping through the ceiling next to the bed! Rang reception who quickly sent up a young boy with some steps and a towel??? By this time we were not happy.

Stayed the night then changed rooms the next day, walked in the room and it was a double bed! The room we had actually booked! Had lots of problems with room keys, lots of trips to reception as we couldn't get in. Not good enough. Wasn't impressed that even though the 'do not disturb' sign is on the door the cleaners still knock two or three times every morning to clean the room. Also, the corridors smell horrible and we did point this out to reception.

The pool area, we have to say was the best part of the trip, it was quite quiet and we always got a bed. Service was terrible though. also at beach club. By the main pool we had lunch every day, however not a huge choice at all for such a big resort, and the order was wrong every single day, on top of the 20+ minute wait to be served.

Breakfast not amazing, long wait for omelettes which always seemed to be undercooked even after asking for well done :-( tea and coffee usually got offered when we had finished, and served by a waiter dripping with sweat through their shirt. I hope this has nothing to do with us staying in bed for two days with sickness.

To top it all off, the night before we left we had no sleep due to the noise from the Nikki Beach party, then someone clearly struggling to get into their room for over half an hour on the above floor, so resulted in banging, to which no security/staff attended. Went for breakfast the next morning and walked into the lift to be greeted by a huge pile of sick which had ran down the door. Disgusting.

When asked on check out if we had a nice time, we did mention the above and we were just muttered a mere 'sorry' and given our room bill.

I feel that it had let us down, but there are certain aspects of it that could be good. I don't wish to stay there in the future but I suppose everyone has their differing opinion!

We loved the resort in general.. Beautiful beach club, breathtaking views and paradise gardens. But what it made a massive difference in our stay, it was Ms Pamela who contributed to transform our time there in a dream holiday. Thanks Don Carlos for that experience.

We stayed in a two bedroom villa, very modern and clean Villa with kitchenette and livingroom. the prívate swimming pool is very nice and quiet. The service of María the manager of the villas has been very helpful during our stay. Whatever we asked for she arranged e.g. Bicycles, drinks, food, shoes. So if you look for a quiet luxury place to be, don Carlos villas is the place to be in Marbella
