This was my second stay at this exceptional resort hotel. So many changes in 1 year since I have stayed there last time: new trendy beach restaurant/bar, totally relooked breakfast room, many rooms seem to be renovated as well.
Very helpful and efficient staff under the management of Leonie.
My room had a view on the tropical garden, very quiet and large with a well designed bathroom.
Also loved the well equipped gym

I was VERY wary of spending a week in Spain, as unlike my usual type of holiday - but having a two year old daughter forced somewhere that had a short flight. Anyway, I was completely blown away by how fantastic Puente Romano was.

We stayed 26th June - 3 July in a Deluxe Garden Suite, and I cannot praise the hotel enough. The staff were excellent, friendly and pleasant. We ate in all the restaurants and food was fantastic in them all.

The only slight negative would be that the pools were quite cold - but they soon warmed up later in the afternoon once the sun had been out.

We loved the location - nice and quiet but an easy stroll to Marbella or Puerto Banus, which nicely coincided with child's nap time!

Our daughter particularly loved strolling through the gardens, swing the swans and other wildlife made walking to breakfast an adventure for her.

Yes, it is expensive, but you get what you pay for an no more pricey than similar hotels of this ilk.

Room Tip: Deluxe Garden Suite was great - a proper suite as opposed to just a big room!

The stunning new Italian restaurant at the hotel offers very good starters and mains, but a very limited and unimaginative deflection of desserts. We were staying close by and booked dinner expecting a gorgeous evening at a gorgeous high class restaurant. We were seated on the lovely terrace, but soon discovered the walkway in between the terrace and restaurant is a main walkway to the hotel's beach club and a constant stream of dishevelled residents and kids continued to pass by, spoiling the mood of a romantic dinner is a beautiful setting. Also the service was so fast we had finished our starter and main course within half an hour, didn't want a sweet, so it was a case of our expected night out turning to evening over.

As for the food, the ravioli Alfonso was exceptionally good. The salmon was also very nice, but slightly undercooked and sat on chargrilled courgettes that clashed with the flavour of the honey and lemon sauce. I think Serafina is a very nice hotel restaurant if you're staying there, but it lacks atmosphere and is spoilt for outside diners by the obvious hotel and family crowd. I also feel they should ring fence the terrace and take pizza off the menu, serving it elsewhere, so there are less kids eating in a restaurant at 9.30 and running around. Shame because this could be so much better!

The newly revamped restaurant is unrecognisable from before. Very cool and calm atmosphere, great cocktails ( especially the mohito). Lovely food, attentive service except for the drinks waitress who felt it beyond her to give our party their drinks and just plonked them all at the end of the table. Half of our party were across the walkway from us and even though she had taken their order from them over there she still just left their drinks at the edge of our table which was a good twenty feet from where they all were. Despite her disinclination to carry drinks around we had a wonderful evening, good food, great wine, lovely sea air wafting over us and lots of laughs, restaurants are always improved with good company.

Room Tip: We were only eating there, not staying.

I've already stayed twice in this hotel.

Rooms and gardens are high quality.

Location is perfect on the beach front and between Marbella and Puerto Banus. Good exercise opportunity walking from the hotel to one of those locations and back.

Service is not 5 star luxury level. I guess they just employ too many summer interns mixed with a few experienced staffed.

Good live music after dinner.

We have been going to Marbella for over 12 years and have now stayed in pretty much all the 'top' hotels. I'd stayed at the Puente Romano twice in this time. It's recently-ish been refurbished so we were excited to go back.

Pros: great location, near the port and old town with its own beach. Lovely setting with newly done up Sea Grill restaurant. Great terrace on the room - but we were lucky that ours had the sun all day. Good sized room - we had a junior suite. Andrew Martin styled so very light. V good concierge service with a super helpful Russian lady who sorted out some issues we had with our rental car - she took complete control and was great.

Cons: the shower in the room! When I stayed there before, a junior suite included a lovely bathroom with proper rainfall shower. Not so now!!! So - junior suite at the P Romano now is NOT what you'd expect a junior suite to be in a 5 star hotel. A member of staff told me that they recently changed the room descriptions, so a junior suite is essentially a standard room. He said if you want a true junior suite, these are now called a 'deluxe garden suite' I believe. The bathroom had NOT been refurbished and although we had a separate shower, it had a shower that was like the one you have at the end of your bath on a long tube. So it had NO power and was useless. We tried to move rooms when we arrived and I spent an hour and a half trying to do this, but they wouldn't upgrade us and could offer no better solution. Bad marks on this - and they didn't bring any sort of fruit basket, glass of wine or anything as a gesture of goodwill - which given we were returning guests, I think they should have.

Terrace wasn't swept or washed once during our 4 night stay. It was really windy last week, so flowers and plants were all over it and so it was dirty. Not 5 star de luxe.

The bed: good size BUT it was rock hard!! If you like zero spring in your bed and waking up aching on your shoulder, you'll love it - but this was once of our worst beds in recent hotels.

Sea Grill: staff aren't trained up enough and it's all a bit casual. Our waitress began taking our order and as we looked at the menu she walked off to start a conversation with another member of staff!! Just unprofessional.

My view is if you're looking for the top hotel in Marbella, the ONLY truly 5 star one is the Marbella Club - we are back there in September.

We have also stayed at the Villa Padierna, Vincci Estrella, NH Alanda and the Don Carlos in the last 2 years as we got married at the Marbella Club last summer, so were on endless visits! Happy to answer any questions on those, too.

Room Tip: Check the room descriptions with the hotel to ensure what you will get is what you think it is, thei...

Dear guest,

I wish to thank you for sharing your comments with us regarding your recent stay at Puente Romano. I am very sorry that we have not entirely met with your expectations; this is why your feedback is appreciated and helps us to learn more about our services and installations.

During the last year we invest a lot on the public areas as well as in most of the rooms and I’m glad to announce you that during winter 2013-2014 our goal is to refurbish the rest of the rooms.

Regarding the water pressure, unfortunately during your stay we did have some unfortunate incident with our main water supply deposit and this had to be fixed urgently. Since then the problem had been solved and the water pressure is as normal.

As for keeping the terraces well swept and cleaned, our housekeeping team normally have this under control, please rest assured that this has come to us as a total surprise and investigations are being made to make sure all is in order as it usually is.

Since your last visit the Sea Grill had improved greatly in service. We have had to adjust some logistics. By providing intensive training for the floor staff and adjustments in the kitchen, we have received very positive feed back and improvement has been very successful. Since these changes, we have had very good reviews about the place.

Once again my apologies for the unpleasant experience and I hope that you will give us the opportunity to show you our hospitality in the future.

Should you wish to contact me personally I will be at your disposal to assist you.

With best regards,

Jorge Mansur

Stayed there in a nice room, with a great view to the garden. The place is very well mantained and clean. The breakfast was excellent, but the restaurants and bars were overpriced. It is a 45 minutes walk to Puerto Bannus, where there are lots of nice restaurants and bars.

Room Tip: The closer to the ocean, the better.
