“Cheap but poor”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

Friendly welcome and the rooms were reasonably well presented and appeared clean, but that is where the compliments end. The pillows and mattress were old and stank, the shower lacked any power and failed to maintain temperature and you had to pay 3 Euro a day for a room safe. The biggest let down was the breakfast and breakfast room where poorly presented and at times nearly inedible food was laid out. The juices were discharged from a machine that failed to maintain the correct concentration, the coffee was like dishwater, some of the fruit was off and the bread and pastries were dry. There was a small saving grace in that there was a lady present who could produce a half decent omelette but you had to eat your food in a large untidy, stained and dirty breakfast room.

Avoid at all costs unless you really need to stay somewhere this poor because of your budget.

Room Tip: Avoid the breakfast!! Other guests also commented to us that the food provided on half board was nea...

This hotel used to be an excellent base for us golfers with great repartee with other guests and the bar staff. Since the parting of Juan and J J and the introduction of the all inclusive spanish element the bar has become a place to be visited rarely. Great shame as we loved the old place with the views etc. We were told the administrators are now involved so somebody somewhere could turn it around if they hurried. Brilliant watching reactions as the "coffee" machine kept tripping out !

Room Tip: Go high and away from the noisy lifts.

The rooms are nice with the A/C seeming to be the big complaint we had. Mine worked but made loud noises when on. The staff was friendly and courteous and the food was pretty good. I really enjoyed their breakfast spread. Since it's located atop a hill the views from the hotel can be very nice especially from the bar at the top. The location is not too bad for a quick drive to Gibraltar or a hop on the ferry to Morocco. WIth some rocky beaches within walking distance. The highlight of the hotel though is of course the heated pool. It's a perfect temp and a nice enough size. Also the fact that they have a separate kids pool and another pool with hot-tub inside helps keep the pools uncrowded. Lots of grass to laze around in the sun as well.
