“Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013 via mobile

My boyfriend and I are just back from a 4 night stay in Malaga at the Barcelo Hotel. It is very clean and staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are cleaned daily and we had no complaints. The English channels didn't work at first but reception sorted this once we queried it.

The hotel is situated right at the train station which is brilliant as the station also has a shopping centre in it! There are plenty of restaurants to try, we went to Woking, which was brilliant once you knew what to do!? Basically you fill your bowl at the first two stations then a second bowl with rice or noodles etc. then they stirfry everything there and then. Very fresh and tasty.

If you are getting the train from the airport, we didn't think it was sign posted very well....the easiest way is to head outside and you will see the sign posts better. Get off at the station before Malaga Centre. oh, and the tickets have a time limit on them so beware of that if getting your tickets on the day of departure to save time later. (School boy error)

Would definitely go back here. Enjoy!

Hotel is part of the brand spanking new railway station complex. We were checked out and on the train bound for the airport within 10 mins. Rooms are large and pleasant. Power shower was great (no bath tho'). Relatively quiet too (a tiny bit of traffic noise through an open window- but not enough to disturb your sleep). Very modern decor throughout- attempt at a boutique effect makes it a touch above your average 'station hotel'. Check in was extremely efficient.

It's a good 15 minutes walk to the town centre (not a particular nice walk, either- bus number three will take you to town if you don't fancy it). The beach/promenade is 5 minutes the other way (but the sea front, despite recent investment by the Ajuntamiento, isn't particulary nice either). There are quite a few places to eat by the sea-side (but many of them are closed on Monday- when we went!).

There's a 'Corte Ingles' with a supermarket (that sells cold Cava, if you fancy a celebratory drink) just around the corner.

All-in-all would fully recommend for airport stop-overs. If you want a Malaga holiday, however, you'll be better off closer to town.

Room Tip: We were on the fourth floor- which negated road traffic noise- would recommend fourth floor or above...

Rooms Clean and Modern, the Hotel is located next to the train station (handy when going to/from the airport), with great blackout blinds in the rooms and lovely clean showers, though a little out of town location wise. Realistically its about a 15 minute walk into the old town, and around €8 back in a taxi.

This hotel is fairly modern and corporate in style but it is extremely convenient to the main train station in Malaga (it is actually part of the station complex) and from here you can walk to the port/promenade and the old town for a really good selection of food and drinks. The bed was typically Spanish - quite small and hard on the back but the sheets (which didn't quite fit that well) were very clean and the air conditioning worked (a bit too well for March!).

Being on the main station premises, hotel has excellent location. Very easy to get to/from the airport and many other nearby places. Good breakfast, very friendly and helpful staff! It's also great fun to go down the slide from 1st floor to reception :-) Overall, a very modern looking and clean place!

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floor will have better view.

First the Hotel itself. It is quite new and very well maintained and has a very modern 'Spanish' style about it particularly in the Public areas - Reception, Bar, Restaurant etc. The rooms, we stayed in one of the 'standard' doubles (ie cheapest) again very clean with unfussy decor were of a good size and well appointed, more coat hangers and drawer space would have been useful. The bed was huge, 2 m wide - most euro king size are 1.8 m, although a little too firm for me; but there was still plenty of space around it. There was a small writing desk with plenty of power sockets in close proximity. Of particular note was the laptop safe v.good and moveable bedside tables - I hate the fixed ones. The bathroom was a nice size with a space efficient sliding door, shower above the bath, good glass screens not a horrid curtain, Plenty of space around the basin and so on. Generally all very good. Breakfast down stairs was very good. Fresh fruit, different juices, Good coffee was let down by not so good Tea facilities (water has to be ideally boiling hot to make 'proper' tea), lots of different breads and pastries, cold meats and cheese, and some hot choices. The choice didn't change from one day to the next though.
However the Hotels location. It's above the main railway station - very good for arriving by train naturally, also by air - just a few stops on the local service. Also if you want to get around the whole of Andalusia as the bus station is in the next block. But while the hotel has a restaurant it is closed on a sunday, which generally means going out and there is a complete absence of decent eating places nearby. Virtually everything (apart from shopping) as a tourist you want is a minimum 10-15 min walk away and more often double, ie sightseeing, restaurants other than pizzas or second rate shopping mall places and yes taxis are possible but not in the middle of the pedestrianised 'old town' or central areas. We ended up walking into 'town' every night of our 6 night stay. So location wise the hotel has a double sided aspect, so good for arriving, getting about and leaving, but staying and enjoying ones-self in a facinating city a bit of a downer. We stayed in the run up to easter.

Room Tip: Near the lifts (elevator) unless you want a long walk along the corridor - they're at one end of...
