“pretty hotel in a posh neighborhood”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

We stayed one night in this hotel, choosing it as it was close to Malaga Airport and we had a flight to catch the next morning. The rooms are quiet and comfortable, with an outside area to sit in.
The pool area is very pretty and large, with lots of greenery, flowers and lounge chairs. It is located in a very posh neighborhhood amid beautiful villas. There are a few restaurants within walking distance, some on the sea at the end of the street. The only negative was when we went to pay the taxi from the airport to the hotel-taxis are generally cheap in Spain but this short (10 min.) ride from the airport costs 19 euros. We had to pay the same going back to the airport the next morning.Of course you can drive there but I recommend GPS or a very detailed map as it is not easy to find.

Before I begin, I should make it clear that, whilst this is a five-star review, the hotel is not striving to be a Five Star Ritz-esque establishment. However, everything it does, it does to the best of its ability.

The reception staff were massively helpful, recommending dinner and breakfast places, giving driving directions and displaying an exceedingly friendly attitude, even when we tumbled in from dinner after midnight! The whole place was wonderfully clean, with stylish little touches in the generously proportioned rooms. Unfortunately, it was a little too cold to enjoy the pool when we were there, but I can imagine that, in summertime, the garden is a delightful place to spend an afternoon; with couches and loungers aplenty. Despite proximity to the airport, we enjoyed a peaceful night with no disturbances. If only all hotels were managed this well!

First impressions: a little piece of heaven! I walked in and thought 'wow' the gardens are well kept and reception staff welcomed me with a smile. I walked into the back courtyard to a well kept garden and pool and again, screamed out "wow!!!"

The Picassa hotel does feel like I have entered someone's home complete with a lounge and private outdoor area with a swimming pool. It has a very polished, pristine feel to it.

I stayed in a double room which is more than enough for a solo traveller. The room was fully equipt with wardrobe tv and a sofa.

Bathroom and bedroom area found to be incredibly clean with no complaints.

Breakfast is served at 8am with the usual full continental works. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Transport: number 10 bus takes you to Malaga centre in 30 minutes. Be sure to check the times printed at the stop or online as buses run every 30-40 minutes.

Travel to/ from hotel from the airport: On arrival, I travelled via taxi which cost 17€ which I thought was excessive considering how close the hotel is to the airport. Unfortunately there are many one way roads and circular routes that taxis must take.

I had time to take the bus back which may take longer but careful planning will save you around 13€

So if you're feeling thrifty, from the airport take the A bus at the arrivals bus stop and get off the first stop opposite Makro (less than 5 minutes). Cross over to the other side of the road and take the number 10 to Guadlmar. The hotel is less than 5 minutes walk but do take map or use your smartphone to locate the hotel. This costs 4.30€ and actual journey time is around 15 minutes although you may need to wait some time for buses to arrive.

For the return journey it's exactly the same as above: number 10 bus to number A which takes you to the arrivals area. Just walk in to find the departure escalators.

Looking back I should have walked to the airport from the bus stop as its so close by. I would recommend this to backpackers/light luggage travellers as its about 10-15 min walk and will save you 3€

What to do locally: walking distance to a quiet beach front and to restaurants nearby. Most restaurants will serve fresh sea food and I ate at a local run Carl(get name). There are 3 local places to eat as well as a buffet dinner at another larger hotel. The Tryp Hotel serves a buffet dinner with a drink for 15€ which was very decent. (Fresh sea bass and veges made to order!)

You can take a bus to the center of malaga and catch connections to other parts of southern Spain.

Amenities: walking distance to a pharmacy and shops so you can buy your essentials (water etc)

Overall very good stay in Malaga if you need a relaxing getaway! Highly recommended.

Flying from Boston, MA, to Malaga and arriving late in the afternoon, I chose to "regroup" before going on to Sevilla. This hotel met all my criteria: location - in a quiet neighborhood near the airport with easy walking to restaurants and the beach; welcoming and helpful staff; quiet rooms with comfortable beds and spotless bathrooms and a good shower. Breakfast was adequate and served in a pleasant room. The swimming pool would be an added attraction on a longer stay.

Very close to Malaga airport, this is a neat, spotlessly clean, friendly hotel. Just perfect for a stop at the beginning or end of a holiday. Despite proximity to the airport, I heard no noise at all. Breakfast was fine, but nothing special.

We needed a hotel close to the airport for an early morning flight. After much searching we chose Hotel Picasso. I admit I was a little skeptical as it seemed to be in the middle of a residential area and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised; the hotel is nice, the rooms are clean and it has a lovely garden and pool area. There is some noise when you are outside but that is to be expected with the airport so near. However I didn't notice it in the room. The parking is on the street right in front of the hotel and after some of the hikes (with luggage) we made in some of the other hotels this was a welcome relief. It made getting off and to the airport much easier. It is within easy walking distance to the beach where there are a couple of good restaurants. The man who checked us in was seemed to be put out that he had to do his job, however the woman who was on the front desk in the morning was very friendly and pleasant. This is definitely the place to stay before your flight.
