“Hotel Monte Victoria Malaga”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

Stayed at the Monte Victoria with my wife from Friday 5th October to Tuesday 9th. It's situated up a hill overlooking the Cathedral and the old town. It is a typical Spanish property beautifuly decorated and very clean. We stayed in a superior room on the first floor the room was newly decorated spacious and clean. It had a large private balcony with fantastic views over the city. Victoria who runs the place with her family is an excellent host and nothing is too much trouble for her. The breakfast is good and is served on the terrace which is beautiful. It is a 20 minute walk to the Cathedral area down some steps then along a main road if you are reasonably fit it's no problem and good exercise. A great place to stay for a city break in Malaga.

Room Tip: try a superior room.

“Recommended”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

Some places are classy and well-run – full of lovely furniture, pictures and ceramics – set in a lovely building with a great view (in certain rooms) and a fabulous, simple garden/terrace. Monte Victoria is such a place. It's not central, with a bit of a walk uphill coming back, but unless that's an issue for you it probably keeps the babble of town away.

Only negative was a place that was suggested to eat at – a few minutes' walk away. It wasn't good - so use your instincts (El Pimpi!!).

Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: Room 102 worked for us.

“peaceful hotel monte victoria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

We stayed in this totally renovated, small, family-run hotel for 7 days at the end of August and thoroughly enjoyed everything. We had one of the two larger rooms with a balcony and the additional expense was clearly worthwhile. The view of the city and the Gibralfaro is expansive and the evening breeze refreshing. The spacious, quiet room has been recently renovated and is spotless--cleaner than most 5 star hotels. Breakfast was more than I could eat--yogurt, cheese, meat, and bread, with thick hot chocolate. The main floor contains many beautiful antiques from the previous home. On the half hour, a bus stops in front that will take you throughout the city. Alternatively you can walk 15 or 20 minutes to the center or take a cab. The owner, Victoria, is extremely helpful and pleasant with tips on buses and sites to visit. Be sure to see the well-known sites and museums, but don't forget the Jardín Botánico de la Concepción.

Room Tip: Book the larger room with a balcony.

“Fantastico!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2012

Imagine having an impeccable home on the hills of Malaga with a beautiful garden and lots of antiques. This is what Monte Victoria feels like.

This family-operated hotel offers comfortable, air-conditioned rooms, complete with fridge, TV, Wi-Fi, and a spacious private bathroom with its own hair-dryer. All at moderate prices.

The hotel is located in a quiet, residential area with narrow streets by the woods. To go downtown you can climb down the stairs to the left of the hotel (as you leave) or ride a mini-bus that stops across the street and runs every hour on the half-hour. The ride is about 15 minutes long.

Monte Victoria's owners - and their cats - are always available and are very friendly. You can use their large living-room, which is like a mini-museum of decorative art, or sit outside in their gorgeous garden and enjoy the cool, jasmine-scented morning breeze, as you have breakfast.

After an action-packed day, it's always a pleasure to come home to Monte Victoria.

“A breath of fresh air in Malaga”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2012

Located on the hills above Malaga this villa offers an escape from the traffic and pollution of the town centre below. It’s half an hour walk to the centre, but really worth it if not for the fresh air then for the views. There is an infrequent bus stopping outside the hotel (the reception has the timetable) or if you are tired you can take a taxi- they are reasonably cheap. This is a family run outfit so you get a personal and friendly service, which is rare to non-existent in bigger hotels in Spain. The dining room/ lounge is beautifully furnished with antiques, the guest rooms are very comfortable, with aircon and good bathrooms/storage.
Beds are unfortunately, as in most hotels in Spain, 2 singles pushed together to make a double. There is an extra charge for breakfast, which consists of the freshest rolls, cheeses and meat, which you can take on the terrace outside- on our second day we skipped it to try the famous Spanish breakfast staples of chocolate and churros- it was quite an experience.
Very pleasant and good value for money- recommended.

PS We travelled in September 2009 but it seems this lovely place hadn't changed much.
