“great location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2011

The Hotel MS Maestranza is located just 5 minutes from the city beach (La Malagueta). This is a very nice beach, with rental sunbeds (cheap!) and a few nice beach restaurants where you can eat fish fresh from the grill. To the city center it's just a leisurely 10 minutes walk through a nice little park. We had just the room, no breakfast, which is a good choice because on the corner of the block there's a bakery which serves excellent cafe con leche and fresh baked croissants and baguettes. So if you're not into a big breakfast buffet just walk to the corner and have a nice little breakfast with the locals. The hotelroom was very nice, with a balcony overlooking the harbour. The rooms have double glazed windows which is very nice as traffic in Spain goes on through the night. Ask for a room on a higher floor so you don't get bothered by the traffic noises. The Alcazaba (old Moorish castle) is close to the hotel, and the best thing is you don't have to walk all the way up, you can take the elevator (behind city hall) to go straight up which is nice when it's very hot. The views are lovely from up there! Also the hotel had a rooftop terrace with sunbeds, no swimming pool but there is a spa.
The MS Maestranza hotel is a good choice if you're looking for a well located place to stay in Malaga!

Comfortable room with a balcony from which it was possible to admire the bullfighting ring and Gibralfaro. Close to the airport buses and the beach. City centre within walking distance. Good service with complimentary cava on arrival. Excellent breakfast buffet. Very friendly staff. Rooftop spa and sundeck. I would gladly stay here again. I really liked the hotel and the city of Málaga.

Booked here for a night before flight home after a holiday in Andulacia. Close to the beach it would suit those seeking a beach holiday. Reception staff were friendly and helpful.

The room was a little on the small side and the decor somewhat "tired". The hotel spa was not available.

Overall an average stay in an average hotel.

Stayed here for a week's family holiday. Two rooms on 9th floor which were far enough away from traffic noise. It really is a 3 minute walk to the beach and a 5 minute walk to the old town. The staff were friendly and helpful and despite other comments here we found the level of english at Reception was good. We had a hire car. There was no parking at the hotel and no where to park on the street at the front of the hotel. The hotel arranged parking for Eur 14 a day. I parked at the back of the hotel outside the Bull ring then gave the key to Reception who drove it away to a nearby Carpark. When I wanted to use the car I told reception and they brought the car again to the Bull ring. We never had to wait more than 10 minutes all times of day and evening, although I never tried it late. I thought it would be a pain but in fact it worked well. Included Breakfast excellent , rooms were good and very clean. Staff were friendly. Only negative was the lack of a swimming pool. There is a 'cool' jacuzzi on the roof next to the sun deck but it was only open from 4.00 pm and not really a substitute for a pool. Overall very good and I would definately go again.

Room Tip: The higher the better

This is a nice hotel and the location is not bad. Friendly and helpful staff. Within walking distance of the main shopping street, the cathedral, the castle and the Picasso museum (don't expect much breathtaking there!). The rooms are clean and comfortable and well appointed but compared to other hotels we stayed in during our trip to Spain I find it a bit overpriced. Service is good, breakfast not so for the price. However there is a restaurant that serves breakfast just down the street called The Bilmore which is excellent.
The hotel is not far from the beach, but it is not a very nice one to look at and, if you expect a choice of outdoor restaurants or cafes nearby, you will be very disappointed as there are few if any and I am sure that the 2 or 3 we found are not known for their cuisine.

A very nice experience, friendly and efficient staff, very good views. Good clean and very functional rooms - not luxurious but a very solid feeling. Great value for money. Gym and Spa not that good. Location excellent.

We stayed with a couple of guys in Malaga for three nights.

The hotel fit the purpose, close to the old town, a nice cafe at the corner and a supermarket on the other end of the street and walking distance to the beach (although you find the nicer beaches further along up the coast near calle Bolivia). Taxis cost next to nothing.

The rooms were quite ok, although the air-conditioning made a smell at the beginning. The hotel could improve the layout of the bathroom though, as the toilet is placed almost against the wall, making it uncomfortable. Beds were a bit tough though. Personnel was very friendly.

Annoying incident occured at night though, when one of the neighbours decided to watch the telly with at volume 100 in the middle of the night. Some banging back at the wall resolved that very quickly.

Would recommend to friends looking at price/quality.
