“Good hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2009

Hotel Monte Malaga is a good hotel, with everything you could expect from a **** hotel, except for the location. The hotel is situated at a busy road. On the other side of the road is an ugly cargo harbor. There is also some serious construction work going on around the hotel. Perhaps the area will be better in a few years, but right now I would not advise this hotel for other than business events for this reason. Malaga's city center is at 10-15 minutes walking distance, the main rail station is at just 5 minutes.

The hotel itself is very good. The personnel is very friendly and offers great service. The breakfast is excellent, with a lot of choice and all fresh ingredients. We also tried the room service once and that was very good too.

Rooms are spacious and have everything you would expect; the decoration is somewhat "middle of the road", though. Wired internet is freely available in the room and there's also free WiFi throughout the hotel. (Ask for the password at the reception.)

This hotel follows the formula of practically all hotel blocks throughout the world. Its huge marbled foyer greets anonymously though the chap on reception was very polite, speaking impeccable English and giving us directions to the old town, fifteen minutes walk away. The car park is below the hotel with a lift to all floors. The room follows the rest of the hotel, being spotlessly clean and of uniform design. The modern bathroom is well fitted and includes many small luxuries such as shampoo, personal sponge, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc. Internet access, via a standard socket over the desk, worked faultlessly. Two comfortable chairs, a bed so huge it stretches beyond the horizon, a mini-bar you can use to keep your own drinks cool in, free safe and hi-fi complete the list for a very comfortable stay. We used the hotel cafeteria for an adequate but rather expensive meal.

  • Liked — Location, 15min walk to old town, 20min from airport, staff
  • Disliked — Poor value for money cafeteria within hotel

Large clean soundproofed rooms with all the amenities you would expect in a 4 star location. Free wireless (Wi-Fi) internet was a great addition to the rooms (make sure to get a login/pass from the reception first). Free electronic safe in the closet. Satellite TV (Digital+) and Radio/CD player. Mini-bar stacked with multiple drinks. The pool closes at 10:30pm but tends to get dirty towards the end of the day. Staff was kind and courteous and spoke english.

Location: 10 minutes walk to the beach, 15 minutes to the old city center. 17 euros from the airport by cab. 15 minutes from the bus and train station. No noise at night. Looked perfectly safe.

Room: Perfectly clean, spacious, big TV, very comfortable bathrooms

Breakfast: 13 euros, expensive, but very very well supplied.

Service: No complaints

Internet & Printing: There is a common area with PCs where one can browse and print. I did not try the wireless in the rooms.

There are some really good reviews for this hotel - thanks.

This is a new hotel, with large comfortable rooms. Even though we like to be out alot we like to have space to read and relax. This is really a business type hotel but that suited us perfectly. It is located five minutes from Malaga Old Town, less than five minutes from railway station and very near El Corte Engles!

If I was travelling to Malaga for just a weekend break I would probably stay in Old Town but we stayed for five nights and the location was perfect. The hotel is opposite the port so do not expect great scenery but you can get to the "locals" beach easily and eat in some excellent restaurants that are full of locals.

The pool and spa facilities are very good. Gym is small.

We only had breakfast one day and they ran out of hot food 40 minutes before the end. Bit disappointing!

Bar good with staff charm personified but not very lively.

It easy by train or bus to travel to some beautiful beaches, Cordoba and Seville which suited us.

So in summary very good quality hotel with great links.

  • Liked — Big, clean spacious, good quality hotel room
  • Disliked — Buffet breakfast disappointing, but only had it one day which was a Bank Holiday

We stayed here on our last night in spain, as it was close to the airport. There is an underground carpark, but you have to go to reception first.
The room was clean and the bathroom was spotless with nice toiletries. The LED lights on the aircon kept me awake but otherwise the room was very comfortable. The view was of the industrial container port but it was not noisy.
There is a small pool and spa but I didn't see anyone using it as the guests seem to be mostly Spanish business men.
The breakfast buffet was fine, and they do not have a restaurant but there is a coffee shop where you can get sandwiches, burgers & snacks.

We stayed in this hotel for four days in March room only. Despite being situated on the busy road which runs along the coast there is no perceptible traffic noise once inside. The hotel is plush and very well maintained with a large airy reception and lounge bar area AND the staff are friendly. Our room was a good size with two comfortable armchairs and the largest bed I'd ever encountered and a sizeable bathroom added to the sense of space. Although our room had a sea view it overlooked the port area, the beach being a short walk along the promenade but as Malaga is a 'working city' this didn't detract from the experience. Decor and furnishings in the room and throughout the hotel throughout are modern and of a high standard. The hotel boasts an outdoor pool which is surrounded by high buildings which I presume would be in partial shade at certain times but again this is a working hotel with lots of business trade and I would look upon the pool as an added bonus. The only negative comment I would make is that the spa was closed throughout the time we were there but it still rates a '5' in my book.

  • Liked — High standard of decor and service
  • Disliked — Spa was closed
