“Fantastic place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

Smack dab in the middle of the historic district. Lovely kitchen with all amenities provided. Knowledgeable staff who were very helpful. Free wi-fi, although somewhat limited service. Big drawers under the bed to store suitcases, padlock was provided.

We stayed in this hostel in Malaga one night, driving in from Guadix in the late afternoon in December. We had to park in a structure near to the closed-off old town where the hostel is located, and even that required a wait and an approval to drive onto the street, since the unseen barrier controller won't let a car in until there is an open space in the small parking structure.

It was not a long walk from the parking lot to the hostel, which you can find by looking out for the three fountains in the little square you reach after entering the pedestrian-only area. The staff were friendly enough, and with a minimum of red tape we had a key to our room.

The room (a private room, not a dorm) contained a double bed and nothing else. Nothing on the walls; no chair; no table; no closet; nothing. The room was 5 feet wider than the bed and about 2-1/2 feet longer, so there was hardly room for our luggage, much less any furniture. There was not a hook on the wall, not a shelf, not a picture, literally nothing but a bed. It was the barest, most inconvenient room imaginable. We don't know what the dorms are like.

The communal bath down the hall was, likewise, bereft of any shelves, hooks, or anything to put anything on, other than the two sinks, which were too small to hold more than a toothbrush. The showers had doors on them with one hook each, on the inside, just where you don't need to hang your towel or clothes. The shower doors stopped about 6 inches from the floor, so water splashed outside onto the floor--where hopefully you didn't put your clothes.

The room and the bath were clean but inconvenient. Better than dirty and inconvenient, I guess.

The wifi did not work in the room, only downstairs, where there were plenty of computers to use. We didn't see any other guests there during our stay, so we didn't have any competition to use the computers. Still, wifi in the room would have been good to have.

There was no curfew imposed by the staff, and they were friendly enough.

The one big plus for this place was the kitchen downstairs. It had everything needed to cook anything you would want: three stoves, three refrigerators, three or four sinks, multiple cooking areas, plenty of pots and pans and crockery and utensils, and all of it very clean. We went to the local mercado and bought seafood, which we prepared for lunch--a feast to enjoy on the tables just outside the kitchen.

We skipped the continental breakfast in order to go do our shopping in the morning, but we did see coffee and cereal and bread in the kitchen.

Room Tip: Look at the room before you take it. Maybe they have better ones than what we got.

Within a walking distance to main tourism places like the cathedral, the Alcazaba, Romano Theater, the beach, and the bullring arena. I booked 6 beds female dorm, but since it wasn't a peak season, they put me in a 4 beds female dorm which was more comfortable for me:) The room and the shared shower room were clean. However, there's no heater in the room which is not too comfort when you stay there during winter time. Kitchen is available. Couldn't access WiFi from my room, but there are free computers access in common room. Close to bus connection to main bus station.

Brand new place, with extremely comfy beds. Very good prices and continental breakfast included in price. Possibility of use computers for free, also free access to the kitchen, tea and coffee buffette all day, possibility of washing cloth. Location in the city center, close to the cathedral and bus connection to the airport. Staff very friendly and mainly speaking english. I would reccomend this place.

We were initially given a twin room on the top floor. We found debris on the beds and discovered that is was caused by the ceiling tiles moving everytime you closed the door. We notified staff about this and were moved to a room downstairs.
The main problem we had with this place was the showers. They start off fine then become scalding hot. When you turn the tap to get more cold they go freezing cold and stay cold. The only way to get more hot water was to turn off the tap and turn it on again the then the whole process starts again. We experienced this problem in both the men's and women's showers over two nights. No locks on the shower doors and only feral looking shelves in the bedroom that were covered with old dirty wallpaper to put anything on.
Most computers downstairs were not operational or had problems.
Breakfast was jam bread and cereal.

This hostel is weird. The toilets don't have locks and the shower areas are covered only with curtains! in fact even our door locks were faulty. The only advantage is the location. The beds were quite comfortable. The kitchen looked quite crappy and the breakfast wasn't great. in short the hostel is not yet fully functional. Thankfully we only had to stay for a day!!
