“Great history, great views.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

Real insight into life in previous centuries and life in a castle. Structure and barricades amazing. Lots of steps so be warned, but a 'must see' in Malaga.

“Vista buena”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

This place has an amazing view over Malaga - you can see right into the bullring in Malaga. There is lots of history to this place as well, but the main reason I would visit this place again, is the view. If the weather if good, you can take fantastic pictures, so bring a camera.

“Great Castle on a Rugged Hill”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

Fabulous views from the top of the castle walls around which one can walk. Really well maintained with a good exhibition showing the history of the place. There is a bus that takes you up and down, parking next to the castle is available or you can walk up the steep path and watch the views unfold as you climb.

“Great views and nice walk back down to town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

Take the 35 bus up to the Gibralfaro, which is the terminus. Check timetable as bus only runs every 40 to 45 minutes, with a gap between 2.10 and 4.10pm. The walk around the battlements gives superb views of coast, the city and the mountains down the coast and inland. The walk back down is very pleasant with constantly changing perspectives, but hard on the knees if you have problems in that area and slippery stones if wet. Pity neither the staff at the entrance nor at the bar snackery have received any customer service training, a smile or appearing contented obviously being outside their remit. Little signposting or onsite explanations and those only in Spanish. Free pamphlets at entrance in various languages. Take small change as you buy entrance tickets from machines and then present them to one of two staff sitting like parrots in their control booth next to the machines. Surreal!

“Malaga on hand or the best is to be on the top”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

The last day of our holiday in Torremolinos was dedicated to Malaga.
After visiting La manquita, Picasso´s museum, Place de la Merced and Alcazaba we climbed to the top to reach the Gibralfaro castle.
The name is derived from Giber al farik ( the lighthouse on the hill). It is an old castle that creates fortification together with the Alcazaba. We paid a little entrance fee and then enterred the museum. It shows the castle´s history and it´s loaded with dozen of artefacts. Then we got onto walls which surround castle and went in the direction of signs. Every corner has a viewpoint with its tower. This experience reminded me The ancient city walls in Dubrovnik. The view on Malaga was just glorious from every corner!
In my opinion this was the highlight of the Malaga.
