We spent 3 nights at the former Hotel Larios which is aptly named, since it is at the very start of the main street in Malaga downtown. The building is well refurbished, keeping a nice retro touch, though it is very modern and stylish. We were given a huge room since we travel with a toddler (thanks for that!) and that helped us feel at home. I would only point out that the heating in November is excessively high; so much so that we had to open the window from time to time to chill the air inside a bit. One night, it was so hot that it was hard to sleep. There was also a bit of noise coming from the main square at the weekend.
The breakfast, as noted by other reviewers, is not very varied. It is a simple continental breakfast with bread, sponge cake, ham, cheese, jam and croissants. Nothing reamarkable. Actually, the coffee is poor. The good thing is the room itsef, overlooking the pretty Plaza de la Constitución and decorated with sober colors and soft lighting.
I'd recommend it in particular for the comfy rooms and unbeatable location.

Room Mate Larios has a lovely apartment over looking the square at the street.
Clean and maid service every day - nice to have a sitting room to relax in and the option of the use of a kitchen.
2 balconies and a small roof terrace.
Will certainly be booking again.

I loved everything about this hotel and have been back three times. I like the art deco styling, so that's a personal thing, but rooms are elegant and I especially like the rooms facing the main (pedestrianised) street.

Very good stand of service and very friendly and helpful reception staff.

We had only one day in Malaga and choose Room Mate Larios as it appeared to be in a good location. It is in an excellent location right in the midst of everything. You could walk to just about anything you want to see and explore. The hotel itself is art deco (my husband's favorite architectural style) and very clean and comfortable. I really wish the roof terrace had been open - that's my only complaint about the hotel itself. Also, the staff was friendly and helpful, willing to answer our questions. If you are visiting Malage and staying in old town make sure you get explicit directions as to where to park, etc. Given the one way and pedestrianized street it took several tries to get there.
