“Great hotel with a nice view on Malaga”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

Nice rooms with a great view on the port of Malaga ! The proximity with the castle is very useful. It is really quiet.
The restaurant offers a nice buffet menu.
The roof pool is very nice.
The staff is very kind and caring.
The wifi internet is great and free: it's a miracle in most of the hotels.

Room was comfortable, balcony is quite small but amazing views from the top of the hill. There is a rooftop pool which is nice. Not quite a 5-star experience (more like 4 star) but I had no complaints really. The trade-off is that you are quite far from town, so you either walk or grab a taxi.

The standard of catering has taken a turn for the worse.

The cafeteria offers a nondescript tapas and raciones menu which compares unfavourably with traditional tapas bars in central Malaga.

I was surprised to find that if I wished to have an evening meal it was compulsory to have 3 courses at a fixed price.

Whatever happened to the more conventional a la carte menu which allowed me to choose how many courses I wanted.

Breakfast is not available before 08.00 hrs. The substitute so called picnic is not an adequate alternative.

I doubt I shall choose to use Gibalfaro on my next visit.

The saving grace is the wonderfully efficient and friendly staff, who cannot be faulted

We stayed here in late March for one night after arriving from Canada via Frankfurt. Parking is difficult to find. The accommodations were average. Terrace service was terrible. We had to go find the one server and the menu did not have a lot to offer. The good things were the free welcome drink for each person once we found the server, the breakfast and the view.

After 2 weeks in a wet and cold Andalucia, and having spent 000 s of euros at paradors, my last experience was haggling over 20 euros at 4 in the morning as we left for an early flight. On check in I'd been promised a credit towards dinner to make up for the fact that we weren't going to be able to enjoy our prepaid breakfast, but somehow the message hadn't made it to the bill.
On the other hand, our room was fine, with a great view into the bull ring, but location is a bit of a problem. You really don't want to park in Malaga and it's a bit of a trek down (and then UP) the direct path . And in the rain that slate path can be treacherous.
Food in the restaurant is not great. There's buffet for both appetizers and desserts and nothing memorable in either. Main courses are limited and cooked to order, and I had to send back my very rare veal escalope, which meant my husband and I ate in shifts. I think all the paradors we stayed at could step up on the culinary side.
Also, not sure about the sheet metal headboards. Who thought they were a good idea?

Our friends had a room on the third floor with fabulous views. We had a room on the first floor with a view of the service entrance, no wi-fi-signal, and next to the elevator. I would only stay here if you could get a guarantee for a third or fourth floor room. Otherwise, not worth being away from the city.

This parador have a marvellous view. But instead of staying in a hotel with cockroaches and bad service, it is better to take the afternoon tea, coffee or beer at the terrace, overlooking the city of Malaga and return back to a hotel with a good service after the tea.
We stayed at the parador for three nights. But already when we checked in, we discovered slow and bad service. It took us 25 minutes to check in, from waiting to be helped, to a lot of papers to fill in. We asked if it was possible to reserve a table in the restaurant for dinner the day after, since we were quite a lot of family members who wanted to sit together for celebrating a birthday. But no, they did not have that kind of service at the parador, we were told. After some discussion with the staff, they finally agreed to reserve a table for us.
Since we had booked rooms through www.booking.com, we got rooms downstairs. Small rooms with no view. But worse, there was no wi-if in the rooms either. We tried to talk to the staff at the front desk, but nothing happend.
Every afternoon are the terrace filled with Spanish families, having their vine or tea overlooking the beautiful city, leaving no space for hotel guest with no view from their room to see Malaga from the top. So why paying to stay here, when you are not able to see the view?
At day two, there were three big cockroaches in one of the rooms. The management moved the guest to an other room. But we did not expect cockroaches in a four stars hotel.
The breakfast are pricy, but very good. But we would not recommend dinner at the Parador. The vine list are excellent, but the food is not worth it. Dinner cost 30 €. Starters and desserts are served as a buffet, and main course are from the grill. The food is tasteless. For the same price you can have a excellent meal downtown. Which we had the other two days.
We had a lovely visit in Malaga, despite of the Parador.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in third floor. The you will have both view and wi-if.
