The hostel is really cheap and if u book it on the internet u get free breakfast on the bar in plaza de la merced. just 2 minutes walking from the hostel. The rooms are nice, u have your own big locker and the beds are really comfotable. There is no reception..so u have to go up to the stairs..u will find alway somedody..the kitchen is really small.. pity.. but the best part is the big terrace on the top..normally there is an artist working there..painting and stuffs. U will meet him for sure. he s speaking with everybody..really nice and friendly. The hostel is close to the centre..anyway malaga is big..so u gotta bettere take the bus to move to the beach or whatever..

There are several things that make this hostel a "NO-Go":
1. Terrible quality mattresses and dirty linen
2. Old bathrooms that are not even clean
3. Extra charges for locker (1 €) and credit card payment (1 €) that are nowhere described!! (hostel website or hostelworld.com)
5. Booking only possible through hostelworld, which adds an extra charge of 1.5 €
6. Website describe that the rooms have ensuite bathrooms but once you arrive, you realise that you actually share the bathroom not only with the people in the dorm but with more people that stay in small extra rooms that are located inside the dorm.
7. Tiny kitchen
8. Once i went to have breakfast there was no clean cutlery and no food left (even though breakfast is included in the price)

Positive points:
1. Good location
2. Free internet
3. Helpful staff

For those that might think: "Oh, why is he/she complaining for a 3,5 euro extra charge? It's not such a big deal..." my answer is:
I have no problem to pay for services as long as i am informed beforehand and they are not enforced to me, without having any other option than accepting them. It is nowhere written that there is an extra charge for the locker and the credit card payment. Obviously it's up to the customer to decide if they want to pay or not for such a thing, before choosing a hostel. In my case, i would have booked at another place with the same money (room for one night cost me 21,5 €)

This was a first time I experienced stay in hostel dorms. The experience is not so bad. Everything is very bright and clean. In each dorm there are 8 beds, during my stay only 2 were occupied, bathrooms are ensuite. And for as little as 12 EUR a night you get all of the following - laundry, internet access, fully equiped kitchen, huge terrace for sunbathing or just spending a good time and even breakfast (some tosts, cereals, jam, milk, butter). Hostel is located in the downtown Malaga, close to attractions like Gibralfaro Castle, Plaza de la Merced (area famous with it´s nightlife), casa natal de Picasso. Good beaches are quite far, but are easy reachable with local bus services.

I stayed here for about 4 nights in July '09. The first dorm was an 8-bed and was very small, but very clean and well maintained. For the last night I moved to another 8-bed dorm, but the room was more than twice the size and had a balcony. The second room was 15€ as opposed to 14€, but I would advise anyone to pay the extra Euro for the extra comfort and airiness of the larger room.
The common room, kitchen (small) and eating area were all very clean and comfortable, thought the sofa covers could do with a wash!
Two PCs and wi-fi in the common room, a roof terrace & nice staff made this hostel a joy to stay in.
The location in ideal for nightlife, and about 10 minutes walk from "city beach".
