“Very Basic Hotel in need of Modernising”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2014

I spent one week staying at Hotel Caracas Playa with my wife in August 2014. We were rather disappointed overall with the hotel and would not agree that it should be rated as a 3 star hotel.

Some of the particular things which disappointed us included:

The photos of the hotel on its website and other sites are very misleading. They make the bedrooms out to look much brighter, cleaner and modern than they actually are. The photos show bedrooms with flowers on the beds and on the balconies. However this is not the case. The rooms are very basic and in need of modernising. Outside the rooms, the corridors have carpets which are old and dirty.

The air conditioning unit in our room had a tendency to leak, causing water to fall on the floor in the room. There was an old 5 litre plastic water container on the balcony which was used to catch the water from the pipes from the air conditioning. I needed to empty this every day to prevent the air conditioning unit from leaking. One does not expect to have to do maintenance work when staying in a hotel!

The hotel had no hand soap in the bathroom. When I asked at reception for soap I was told there was none. Our bathroom was also very small.

During our stay we encountered 3 different hotel staff working on reception. Most of the time we dealt with 2 of the staff, who both had very poor English. This made it very difficult to communicate with the hotel staff and ask any questions or obtain help. A hotel needs to be able to communicate properly with its foreign guests.

For the week we were staying in the hotel there were demolition works being carried out on a building in front of the hotel. This caused a lot of noise and dust and was quite a nuisance. The noise from the demolition and machinery woke us early in the mornings. I appreciate that this is probably out of the hotel's control. But we were disappointed to find these works taking place when we arrived. It is clear that these works have been going on for some time and that construction works will continue into the future with the construction of new development in front of the hotel. People should be made aware of this.

There was no WiFi in the hotel. Not even in the reception. This is poor by modern day standards. The breakfast was very basic and of limited selection.

Overall I would not recommend this hotel to other people. The only positive thing it has going for it really is its good location in the centre of Estepona and less than five minutes walk to the beach.

We chose this hotel as it is right on the edge of the town of Estepona in an excellent central, and parking was easy. We stayed here a month ago for two nights and we were pleased it wasn't more. The room was very clean, but the hallway carpet was filthy. Goodness knows why they had carpet at all and not just tiles. A vacuum cleaner was not to be seen anywhere at any time, so the carpet was the way it was. The young girl who cleaned the room left it spotless each time. Unlike the other reviews, we did not have a problem being sent for cash, but we did offer one night's payment on arrival, and paid our second night when we left the hotel. The strange thing was there was no WIFI. We could live without it, but it was nowhere for clients in the hotel - absolutely nowhere. We assumed this was because the bill had not been paid to the provider. On a positive side, the fish restaurant next door, going up the street from the beach (Mencey) was excellent and good prices, and we ate here a couple of times and were happy. Not a hotel we would return to.

We have used this hotel for years, and every year now it seems to change its name and management, it used to be very welcoming, but on our last visit we were told that they could not take Credit Card payments, and needed Cash up front, which suggests THEY have a Cash Flow problem so be very wary when booking this Hotel

My family have used this hotel for many years and have always considered it to be a good basic hotel. However, this year will be the last time we stay there because for reasons only known to themselves, the staff refused to take payment by credit card, and in fact demanded payment IN CASH, IN FULL ON ARRIVAL! If you book to stay there you should be aware of this, and be prepared to be sent out to look for a cash point at any time of day or night.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 7 night in November a Estepona . It was only 60 Euro per night , and we were on a budget. The rooms and bathroom were very clean, and each morning we received a very good but complementary breakfast. The location is fantastic. Just a minutes walk from all the major attractions and the Beach . Great view in the sea from the hotel balcony. All the other staff was fantastic and accommodating. They let us leave our baggage in the lobby after checkout so we could tour on our last day with ease.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for one night (12th October 2013). The hotel owners were friendly and welcoming and were happy to help with any requests (they also both speak English). The room was big and exceptionally clean, with a very comfortable bed and free WiFi. The bathroom was a good size with a powerful shower and plenty of hot water. We chose one of the rooms with a balcony and had a stunning view over the sea. The hotel is situated approximately 10 mins by car from Puerto Banus and close to the historic center. Continental breakfast was good value and the dining room provide a quiet ambient. I honestly cannot recommend this hotel enough. It is better than many of the 4/5* hotels that I have stayed in in the same area.

We visited this hotel in october 2013. It was our first time in Estepona Andalousia and we really enjoyed it. I had a room on the three floor which overlooked the street . The room was clean, with a clean balcony. We had booked an airport transfer taxi but as Estepona is well linked to Malaga airport (we travelled via budget airline) The hotel was only a five minute walk away from the beach and near the main shopping street.
We found the food to have far exceeded our expectations. We went half board and was pleasantly surprised to find that drinks (including house wine/beer) was also included! There was a huge variety of food (although the weekends were definitely much more crowded and you can feel the tension of people "food hunting" popular items such as fresh seafood, ox tails (Which was not replenished once gone :( )

I found mealtimes to be crowded so its advisable to come down early as possible to secure seats and food! it is a pleasant hotel, the rooms aren't flashy but comfortable. The only downsides is they charge for Internet (I really dislike it when hotels do this) but the price was reasonable.
