“Very good hotel and price, beach is very average”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2011

The room was a familiar with amazing sea view on Block 3. Very clean, immaculate and huge spaces, including a very nice balcony with table and chairs. TV is a 26" with big selection of channels from the UK, Italy, Spain, Russia, Germany. Bed a bit disappointing since we had 2 single beds attached, which is always a bit uncomfortable. Internet access (WiFi) is excellent in the room and also in the bar, pool, restaurants, etc.

The pool area is really fantastic, you have a huge choice of pools and a nice bar near by.
The beach is a few meters away with direct access from the hotel, but I have to say that is very average. Black sand, lot of stones and the sea is not really the best. If you are looking for a hotel with great beach options around you, this is not the one for you, since the best beaches in La Costa Del Sol are in the Granada coast or Cadiz.

We had buffet breakfast included and also had twice dinner. Breakfast variety is great! You have even someone cooking fresh eggs, pancakes. Quality is excellent, except for the bakery and pastries that you will find in the centre table of the restaurant. They were chewy, like not really baked same day...

Estepona is 5 minutes away by car. Be aware, this is the only option you have to move around, since there is no transport from the Hotel and neither near by. You have parking space for free outside or for 5 Euros a day covered.

If you are going in half pension or just with buffet included then note that this are the prices. So if you are thinking of staying in the hotel would be better to take the all-inclusive, otherwise go to town and try the nice restaurants.
Cocktail at the pool bar: 7 Euros
Main dish: around 15 Euros
Salad: 11 Euros

Room Tip: Blocks 4 and 5 are the closest to the beach

We (family of 5) stayed in the 2 bedroom suites on half board. The suite was enormous and very nicely done, lots of marble and with a hint of the far east, very beautiful and clean. We had our own terrace with sun loungers and a table and chairs. The hotel is only 1 year old and everything is spotless and very new.

The main pool is huge with plenty of sunloungers. There is a pool bar, but it's actually not that good. Very limited choice of snacks and sandwiches and no bar staff walk around taking orders or clearing empty drinks. Also, loud music is played all the time at the pool....why do some hotels insist on doing this?

Kid's club...my kids didn't want to go so I can't really comment. They seemed to cater very well for spanish kids but I didn't see any of the other english or french kids there either.

Breakfast and dinner was amazingly good. Loads of choice and really good quality food.We really did eat very well and the only complaint is the price of drinks. 3 euros for a coke is quite steep IMO. We asked for a jug of water at the same time as ordering drinks with our meal and the waiter looked at as as if we'd ordered cocaine! A shame because here in the UK it's very acceptable to order tap water but over in Spain they think you are being cheap! The hotel prides itself on it's eco-credentials but would rather you bought bottled water with a large carbon footprint. Made me laugh....

The beach is lovely and unspoilt but not really suitable for young kids as it's very deep as soon as you go in. Also, the nudist camp next door put us off the beach ...... middle- aged naked men playing frisbee.......er, no thanks!! But we knew about this as we've stayed in the area before and we spent most of the time by the pool.

We had a lovely holiday at this hotel and would go back. But it is expensive compared to similar hotels in the Costa Del Sol. Then there are the extras.... they charged us 10 euros to book the paddle tennis court plus 5 euros equipment hire. A bit ridiculous really.

we stayed in august 2011 and it was abolute quality from start to finish. The hotel is superb. We had a one bedroom junior suite and i have to say that it was the most space we have ever had in a spanish hotel .

The food was brilliant, Large choice and meat cooked in front of you. I see others have complained about luke warm food....well it is a buffet so that will happen, but you can get fresh from the kitchen and there is a microwave if you hust need to heat it from a few seconds.

Breakfast was incredible. I wish i had a bigger appetite! How someone has complained about noise is very strange....what do you expect???? Of course it was a bit noisy.

Kids club very spanish centric, but that was OK too.

Now on to the "one thing" i mentioned above. Please be aware that it is next to a NUDIST BEACH. Now, i have to say that i personally don't care about this but I do think others may well be upset if they are with their families and it should be mentioned.

I want to make clear that the naturists do not wander into the Fuerte beach, but as i say they are next to it and very easily seen. If you are uncomfortable with this, I suggest you do not go to the beach - the pools are excellent anyway!

I will try to keep brief what others have said both good & bad

Great hotel throughout immaculate with good service
Food better than average with great choice & lots of fresh seafood (huge prawns)
Kids Club good (beware mostly Spanish not a bad thing at all but my 2 kids were the only English)
Evening Entertainment good
Location is a 95 euro taxi ride each way adding almost £200 to your holiday add to fact if you want a trip to Estepona for change of scene etc add another 10 euro each way that said we had a 5 day break so were happy to chill at the hotel
Beach a bit scabby
Back to the rooms ours was 2 bedroom with 2 balconies, huge living room master with ensuite, 3 x lcd tv's etc etc so very good accommodation
Great place but think what you want from your holiday before booking

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2011

We stayed here in July. It was my wife, my three kids (aged 10, 12, 14) and our friends, a couple with two kids (aged 12, 14). Both families are accustomed to staying in very nice places, and we were all ecstatic when we pulled into this hotel/resort.

We stayed here in the middle of a tour around Spain where we had started in Barcelona, then Granada, then this hotel, then on to Sevilla before heading back to Barcelona again. We stayed in cute, boutique hotels in these cities, but this was something else entirely. The common areas made a very dramatic impression. Not only the entrance to the hotel, but also the pools. The beaches were ok, but our standards for beaches are high as we live near the white sand beaches of the Florida gulf coast and one of our party grew up on the Gold Coast of Australia where the sand squeaks it is so white and perfect. All the Spanish beaches that we saw, including these, were brownish, pebbly sand. That said, you can't see the Rock of Gibralter from Destin Florida, so these beaches had their own charm. The rooms were amazing, and we were frankly shocked at what we got for our money... very pleasantly surprised.

Our family had booked two rooms as there were five of us. They gave us a suite consisting of very large common areas, a bedroom upstairs, and a bedroom downstairs. Both bedrooms had luxurious baths and huge walk-in closets. There was another powder room in the common area. All together, there were three balconies that faced the beach. The appointments were very high end, and the rooms were cleaned and well maintained.

The staff was fantastic. The other family with whom we traveled had left their passports in Grandada. The front desk let them check in without passports, and arranged with the last hotel to have them overnighted to Estepona... what great people!!!!

Every kid on our trip lists this as their favorite hotel. There were lots of others kids at the pools, and every night they did some little show for them (magic, music, etc.). The adults felt comfortable enough with the safety of the hotel to head out to dinner on our own one night, and the kids enjoyed their own dinner in the main restaurant.

While the kids loved the restaurant, I would not say it was the best feature. It was buffet style, and the food was only just mediocre. Also, the Spanish, are horrible at Q-ing. There seems to be no socially acceptable standards for lining up for anything in Spain, so buffets are not ideal.

Again, this was a great value, a great hotel, and it was exactly what we needed in the middle of a hectic itinerary that was taking us from old world city to old world city. I'd recommend it as a great way to bring some relaxation into a Spanish vacation.

We all LOVED this hotel!

Room Tip: Book two rooms and you get a huge common area in addition to the bedrooms.

We spent a week in the Fuerte Suites as part of a two week holiday on the Costa del Sol.
Overall, we were happy with our stay, but had some gripes which I'll discuss before moving on to the better aspects. Firstly, we found service at reception on our arrival to be careless and inefficient. We decided to park our car in the underground carpark (5 euro per night) so that it wouldn't get heated up in the sun during the day, and also so we wouldn't have to pull our suitcases from where we had parked outside the hotel. They told us at reception that we would be able to get a lift straight up to our room from the underground carpark. Unfortunately, the girl at reception told us to park in a different block to where our room was, which led to a long, incredibly hot, trek in claustrophobic conditions beneath the hotel looking for a non-existent lift to the block in which we were staying. Eventually, we came out at the pool/dining area and had to parade before sunbathing guests to find reception. We had noticed that there were loads of cars parked on every available piece of ground all around the hotel, and now understood why. If you go to this hotel my advice is don't use the underground carpark. Another nuisance during our stay was the fact that the magnetised cards for both the carpark and our room kept wearing out, meaning frequent annoying trips to reception to get them sorted out.

Another less than satisfactory part of our stay relates to the restaurant. We had booked half-board as, to be fair, the hotel was doing a very good deal on this. Breakfast and dinner were buffets in an enormous dining-room. I found breakfast to be noisy, with waiters flying around trying to look busy when they actually had very little to do, continuously whipping plates, cups etc. if you left them down for more than a few seconds. Also, the confectionery (croissants etc.) seemed to have come out of packets and weren't that great. Another slightly offputting aspect of the food is that, due to their eco-friendly ethic, the hotel only keeps the food barely lukewarm, so that dinner in particular can be disappointing if you like your food piping hot. That said, they do offer to bring you your food straight from the kitchen if you request it, though it would mean having to wait and possibly queue. The food at dinner was very good, I thought, except for this. I usually had meat/fish done on the grill or fried which were hot, and took salads instead of vegetables. I thought it was a shame, though, to have such a variety of lovely food and then let it go nearly cold.

The hotel does have some outstanding features. Firstly it is on a very large scale with an enormous pool and pool area where there are always beds available. There is a fantastic feeling of space and freedom. The beach is more scrubland than sandy, but I really liked it because it was quiet, uncrowded and again, there were always sunbeds and plenty of space. The beach grew more pleasant and sandy if you walked along it, especially to the right where, after about 15 minutes you will come across the most beautiful little chiringuito, almost in the sea and serving superb food. To the left, by the way, is a naturist beach which is far enough away not to be distracting! There was also horse-riding on the beach which my granddaughter really enjoyed. She has not yet had any lessons, so was delighted to be led along by the very kind man who owns the horses.

The rooms are also exceptional. We booked a luxury one- bedroomed suite that was on special offer and it was a spacious duplex with a spiral staircase to the upstairs bedroom/bathroom, and a large living-room and well-equipped up-to-the-minute kitchen. There were also balconies on both levels with marvellous sea views.

There was an enjoyable variety of entertainment on most nights, and a fantastic animation team for the children. We were also impressed by the hotel's facilities for the disabled and their care and attention to children with special needs who were included in everything and integrated happily with the whole group of children.

Would we go back? Definitely, but on a board basis only, no meals. In fairness, there is a bar/restaurant where the entertainment took place which had really delicious light meals and snacks, and where we sometimes had lunch. The service there was friendly and efficient. Next time, I will try the spa which I'd imagine would be good. All in all, a very twenty-first century hotel!

We stayed in this hotel in May, during the day we had a nice time by the pool however the food was not good and there is no where nearby to walk to. There is a supermarket on site but this is empty and not really much in there to buy. I would not recommend staying here out of season you need the sun if you want to stay here.

Rooms
Rooms are really nice and are kept clean, there are tea making facilities however they are not replenished each day, therefore don’t expect anymore teabags after the first round

Staff
Staff are average – for example on our first day at the bar we ordered some drinks and lunch, we gave our room number when ordering, we then went for a walk and returned only to be told off by the bar man who said, “ticket, ticket you must always wait for the receipt ticket before you leave”, we had only gone to the pool area.

Food
Food is very disappointing, average and bland, the breakfast provides a wide selection but it lacks something, it was kind of economy not what you would expect in a 4 star hotel – disappointing but you have to eat it as there is nothing close by! One good thing is happy hour served from 5.00 – 6.30, half price drinks and these are better quality. We ordered a hot chocolate and got some milk with a sachet of chocolate which was really revolting and was not cheap!

Atmosphere
There isn’t much of an atmosphere it’s hard to explain, it’s a well furnished hotel but it seems soulless

Location
Taxi ride cost between 9 – 12 Euros one way, takes about 10 minutes to the port, where there are some nicer restaurants

Beach:
The hotel beach is not that nice, dont expect golden sand. Also you need your room card for when you return from the beach or you wont be able to get back into the hotel grounds, you can get out without the card but not in. There are no instructions about this.

Overall the hotel is nice (comfortable and well designed) but it is let down by the average food and average staff. If you have a day of bad weather then it is very depressing so I would recommend staying here at peak season when you have more chance of sunny weather, it’s not the type of hotel you can relax in if weather is not good. The pool area is nice though.

I would not return to this hotel.
