“Close to the beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

The Regio is close to the beach, and bus #1 is convenient for going in to the old town. The outside is nondescript and obscured by trees. Inside, the lobby is nice and my single room was tastefully decorated with a modern TV and a/c with remote. The breakfast buffet was enticing, tasty and nicely arranged. The staff was really friendly (desk and restaurant). The Regio has a good vibe. Loud guests disturbed me one evening, so the walls are a little thin. It's fine to take bus #1 with luggage to the train station, even if the bus is packed. The driver and passengers showed me where to put my small suitcase. More convenient is the long-distance bus stop nearby (the first of 2-3 stops if you are coming into town, near a cluster of beach hotels). Overall, good value for money.

We were three friends staying two nights in Hotel Regio in Cadiz and got a three bed room which looked OK. Wasn't luxurious but clean in every corner, comfortable beds and fresh and clean modern bathroom. Perhaps the smaller rooms look even nicer, like the pictures suggest? The overall look of the hotel is nice and clean with a nice lobby and friendly staff. Alejandro in the lobby was particularly kind and professional with perfect English!
If you have a car they arrange for parking just 50 meters away for a few euros per night. It's walking distance to the beach, restaurants and bars, 5-10 minutes.

It's a decent hotel . Decent location. Nothing to complain about. It was a last minute decision to stay here and we were not disappointed.

We picked the Regio mainly for its price (Cadiz is an expensive city!) and were well pleased with the room, which is your standard 2 or 3-star hotel room. Nothing fancy, though the bathroom was quite nice. We WERE surprised by the size of the hotel, though - it's very small! Which made having to turn the keys in at reception every time we went out a little uncomfortable, as one (a paranoid city-living one!) could feel that they were keeping track of your comings and goings.

Location-wise, whilst it is in the new town, a quick bus ride on the #1 (and buses are cheap and plenty before 11pm) brings you right to the heart of the old town in minutes. It's also just a short walk to the Playa Victoria, which is nice for the beach.

If you're taking the interstate bus to Cadiz (say from Seville), you can ask the bus driver to stop you off at the Hospital Puerta Del Mar, which is just 200m from hotel, instead to going all the way to the bus station and coming back out again.

Having free wifi in the room was nice too.

I completely disagree with the reviews that Ive read on the website. My boyfriend and I we spent only one night in this hotel and we were far than happy.... We had a small room with 2 small beds. It was very noisy, I could follow the TV program my neighbour was listening to so you can also imagine I could hear him snoar as well !!!! In addition, the air conditioning was not functioning properly and suddenly a leak started in the middle of the night. On top of that, the view was horrible. The personnel from the hotel was not friendly at all and barely spoke any english.
The breakfast was included in the price of the hotel but what a breakfast!!! We had to wait 45 minutes just to be served in this small and crowded room to eat a somewhat good croissant... Not worth it...
Apart from the good location (if you want to enjoy the beach), do not stay in this hotel.

The Regio 1 was fine as far as cleanliness, but I would have rather been closer to the old city, as we were in Cadiz for carnaval and that's where all the action was. The hotel was located near Playa Victoria, so maybe during beach season this would have been a better pick.
The staff was only ok, and they have this really annoying rule about taking your key when you leave the hotel, and giving it back when you return. Being a New Yorker, I prefer anonymity and would rather not have everyone in my business about my comings and goings. It also means annoying the desk clerk everytime you accidently leave something in your room, or want to come back real quick to use the bathroom or freshen up. Its also impossible to sleep past 9 as chatty cleaning people and vacuums can be heard from every floor. There are hardly any restaurants or bars around the hotel, so calculate cabs and busses into the price. The best thing about Regio 1 is its proximity to both local and inter-city bus stops.

Nice hotel with good sized, clean rooms. However, although the breakfast was nice it was quite basic. The staff didn't speak amazing english and it was a half an hour walk into the centre but only a couple of minutes from the beach. Our room was looking out onto the main road which is quite noisy at night so take some ear plugs! Overall, it was good enough for a 2 night stay.
