Owner description: The Palace of Viana is a lived house until the end of 20th century by noble families but with a great popular flavor instead. One of its main attractiveness are the "patios" and the garden that make it be known as Museum of the Patios. Indoor and outdoor are perfectly integrated, giving to the palace an original harmony. Among the collections stand out paintings, tapestries, leather and ceramic tiles among others.

“gorgeous!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

we bought the ticket for the patios only. there are 12 of them and each one is more stunning than the next. you can also see into the palace thru the windows- that was enuf to satisfy our curiosity. we loved every minute of this visit. it was about a 20 minute walk from the old city but well worth it!

“Outstanding historic patios”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

There are thirteen patios and a garden at the Palacio dating from the fifteenth to the twentieth centuries; though the most recent is heavily inspired by Hispanic-Arabic patios gardens. They vary greatly, some are shady, some are planted beautifully and all have water which helps to keep you cool. Whether you are interested in garden design, history, horticulture or just like gardens and flowering plants you'll enjoy the patios. At €5 for the gardens or €8 for the gardens and a tour of the house the value is excellent. The house tour is only in Spanish but a leaflet is provided that gives a summary of the tour guide's patter. Our tour guide was a little bored but there is plenty to look at. For me, the Palacio de Viana was the second most rewarding place we visited in Córdoba after the Mezquita.

“Wonderful museum, not te be missed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

When arriving at the entrance-desk the two ladies behind the desk were in a seemingly important chat with each other. When after some minutes I interrupted them and asked for two tickets, they looked up disturbed and greeted me in a reproaching way because I was interrupting them from their work. As a North-European visitor this confirms the impression, that Spain is still one of the economically weak South-European countries where siesta-siesta and mañana-mañana are still prevailing.
The museum itself is wonderful and deserves 5 stars, it has even more primitive and primordial atmosphere inside then the Alcazar. We bought a wonderful t-shirt and some small things in the nice shop. Upstairs is just visible by a rigid scheduled Spanish tour, so we had to miss that because we had no time to wait to fit in that schedule.

“Bored tour guide”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

It was raining when we visited, so, needless to say, the patios weren’t as enjoyable as they might have been on a sunny day. That being said, I don’t think that the patios were that impressive in general, especially if you’ve already been in Andalusia for a week and seen a number of them.

The palace can only be visited as a guided tour which takes about 30 min. The big disadvantages of were that the guide wasn’t very enthusiastic, since he has to tell the same things over and over again (although I have had better guides), you don’t really have the time to look at things that really interest and there are a lot of people looking at the same thing at once. The tour was in Spanish only, leaflets were distributed in other languages.

As for the palace itself: it’s what you expect from such a place, a bit kitschy and hopelessly outdated, but interesting enough, I suppose.

Price for entrance (whole ticket) was 8 €/person. Visit if you’ve got the time, otherwise skip it.
