“History!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

The Alcazaba is a beautiful historical building which is being restored. There is lots to see at the Alcazaba so you need to put a whole day aside to ensure you experience everything it has to offer.

“really worth the climb”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

Dreaded the climb as I am unfit, but if you take your time it is easily done. I really enjoyed my time but you need to get there in plenty of time, it closed at 1.30 till later and to fully enjoy it you need to have longer than the 50 mins we had. Lots of interesting elements including wonderful views, gardens are well laid out and planted, the gardens at the top are lovely, as said, not as richly decorated as Granada or Seville but I liked the simplicity, lots of flowing water is welcome in the heat, really admire the Moorish designs and layouts. Like the fact that it is free if you are an EU resident (via passport). History needs to be read before.

“Definitely visit this and its Free!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

There is lots to see here and is well worth the walk up to it.

Remember to take water and sun cream if you are visiting during summer. There is a self service drinks machine area, but no real cafe.

Fantastic views from the top. Beautiful gardens inside.

It gives a great idea of Moorish life in the past.

Do not forget your camera!!!

“Fascinating insight into Spain's Moorish past”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

The Alcazaba is a great visit, looks fantastic from the town and is very interesting to visit, the grounds are lovely, it is obvious that a lot of care and attention has been paid to the grounds and the exhibition to demonstrate what some of the living quarters would have looked like. There are also spectacular views across the bay of Almeria so a camera is a must! A note of caution ladies dont wear sandals as on the way back down the paths are slippy and there isnt much/any shade at the top so bring a hat and plenty of suncream. Its a fab trip and adds extra depths to the vibrancy of Almeria.
