“We will go back!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013

It was my first visit and for sure it won't be the last. The food is very good the service is professional and with a touch of humour which is in my view most pleasant. The menu change every week and is inspired by a Spanish province. When we visit the Encina it was the Rioja Week and as farvas I remember the following was for Leon.
After a starter offered by the house we had fresh deep fried and breaded artichoke (not at all oily) followed by sirloin veal with red wine (Rioja) sauce which were both delicious.

“Great for tapas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

We had drinks and a couple of tapas here and it was very nice and good value for money. Decorated in an old fashioned Spanish/Moroccan style it has friendly staff and beautifully presented tapas. Worth a visit and just round the corner from the Nuevo Hotel Torreluz, where we stayed!

“Excellent. Good wine!! Lactose and gluten free if you ask.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013 via mobile

We booked a table for the special menu "mini Cocina" and asked for one gluten free and one lactose free. On arriving we liked the ambiance - very spanish and friendly. The waiter (Toni) knew about our requests and was very attentive (he also sings). The salmorejo as a starter was excellent. Wherever possible they used fresh organic local produce. The olive oil from Canjayar was liquid green gold. All six dishes were very good. Only complaint is we needed a sofa for a siesta after the meal. We will definitely return.

“Terrific restaurant and incredible value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

We had the pleasure of dining here on two nights. The food is truly excellent... the menu of the day was 12 euros and is unbelievable value ( eating out in Almeria is not cheap ). The first meal consisted of a nice shared tuna salad then the actual starters, a brilliant hot artichoke dish and the traditional cold tomato cream dish which was lovely then the nice mains of veal with chips followed by a great fresh strawberry concoction with a lovely chocolate and vanilla cream. The second meal was even better as we had the fantastic hot seafood and pasta starter with the great artichoke dish and mains of pork tenderloin and the really good fried cod dish (all served with bread and a choice of beer, wine etc) then the delightful strawberry desert again to finish a great meal. A hidden gem. Highly Recommended.

“Great city centre Menu del Dia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

After a relaxing morning in the arabic baths (Aire de Almeria), we were able to wander across the Plaza Vieja and into the very welcoming LA ENCINA.

For just €12, it included bread, salad and a drink plus choice of

STARTERS
Migas, Russian Salad or Fideos en Cazuela (a hearty pasta and fish stew)

MAINS
Boquerones, Fried cod, Cod Balls, Fried Gallo Pedro, Croquetas, Chorizo, Pork loin, Pork Secreto, Beef or my favourite was the Bream

PUDDING
Fresh strawberries or the best Spanish rice pudding that any of us had tasted

The staff were friendly and the narrow restaurant had a charming atmosphere.
